We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of my daughter who has been there before. First of all the menu is SO overwhelming and everything sounded delicious. After our waiter told us the specials of the day we told him we would only be ordering an appetizer and an entree to split since we both weren't big eaters. Well,... More

We enjoyed your nice review. It sounds like your daughter has good taste in restaurants. We hope to see you in the near future. While we have no bandstand, entertainment is featured on week end evenings. Next time save room for dessert! Thanks and we hope to See you on Fort Street, More

Returned to The Fort after many years. Twin lobsters were featured and were delicious & reasonably priced, my husband had the baked scallops & they were equally good. Freddie Marion vocals & Dan Kane on he keyboard provided wonderful entertainment. We will be back.

We appreciate your nice review. Some might not associate seafood with a Germanic restaurant, our fish and shellfish dishes are very popular, in fact our most popular main course is Scrod. We are glad that you enjoyed the entertainment and we hope to shortly See you on Fort Street, Rudi More

The Fort has always been a Springfield treasure but because of the decline in the city and other demographic trends the business began to dry up. New owns came to the rescue and are trying to keep it afloat until the Casino come in. I would say that it is a real horse race. It may not make it until... More

Not normally a huge fan of German food...but there were other things for me to choose from. My husband had a delicious typical German meal that he raced about. We had an octopus appetizer that I thought was unusual and delicious, as was my main course. The service excellent. The waiter suggested a beer to my husband after asking him... More

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. While one might not think of Octopus as a Germanic dish, our menu has a nice mix of classic food and contemporary food. We are proud of our waitstaff, and the many varieties of beer of draught! We hope to see you soon on Fort Street. More

We had a octopus appetizer (a special) which was really tender. Very good. The entrees we ordered were the schnitzel, German sampler and Hungarian goulash. All three were really good. Very tasty. Service was quick and nice

Love everything about this place, starting with the decor! SP has been around for a long time. The food is fabulous...made in the kitchen. The staff is welcoming and friendly. Service was quick and easy. We stop here as often as we can...we live in Rochester NY!

the restaurant is under new management and newly designed. it can facilitate large groups or private parties. the best thing however is the food, of course. they provide a good array of traditional german and european dishes. the service is very good and attentive to detail. take a walk around the restaurant and visit several rooms very well decorated to... Fred, I would like to thank you for the nice review. The redesign looks good while keeping the older elements intact. The booths in the bar are over 65 years old! We have a lot of menu items from which to choose, we are best known for our Germanic Fare, yet our best selling item is broiled scrod. The steaks... More

I went to Germany last year and had all kinds of German food. Coming here reminded me of how amazing the German food is. Authentic and homemade, this restaurant knows Germany from beers to appetizers to entrees. The staff (our waiter was Jeff!) is amazing. Jeff was nice and gave us great suggestions and was willing to talk to us... More

Thanks for your nice review. Many of our German recipes date back over one hundred years to my Grandfather's restaurant in the Hartz area of Germany. We also have some classic New England food, such as scrod, and great steaks. We have 22 beers on draught and are very proud of our beer system and the delicious quaffs, which I... More

I agree that thank God that the Picknelly Family and the owners of the Huke Lau decided to open up this Springfield MA landmark. The reopened restaurant has a wide open but German traditional feel and the food, especially the Schnitzel and German beers, are outstanding. Can be pricy for dinner, but lunch specials are budget beaters. Good food, great... More

It's is great to have variety in the areas where you go out to dine. This has German foods at their best- Start with a Giant German Pretzle with Mustards, then Bratwurst, knackwursts, Veal schnetzeltes, sauerbraten, Pork Shanks, and other entrees like King sized Prime Rib, 24-ounce T-Bone steaks, Duck, and lots of seafood and other specialties. Thanks for the nice words. We are glad that the place remains in operation and the traditions continue with a bit of 21'st century additions. It is always a good idea to leave room for dessert. Indian pudding is sadly being found in fewer and fewer establishments and we think that ours is one of the best versions of this... More
