Our dinner at Sazon was out of this world. The ambiance was upscale but not stuffy, and the service by Megan was second to none. She tantalizingly described the items on the menu to us, keeping our dietary preferences and my shellfish allergy in mind....Megan helped us select our dishes, how to course them, and didn't let us down. Every course we had was better than the next, and that is saying a lot. We started with Xochimilco, a savory and earthy corn truffle with mini tortillas. Rich and delish. This was followed by the Sopa de Amor, a delicate soup with green chile, crab, chocolate, and amaretto foam, which my husband raved about. We moved on to the Flor de Calabaza, a lightly fried, deliciously cheese-stuffed zucchini blossom with ginger aioli and chocolate balsamic sauce. Good lord, it was good. The piece de resistance was the fish of the day, Halibut in a Mole Verde. It was cooked to perfection.
We finished our dinner with an espresso and the Helado de Mole Poblano; a chocolate mole ice cream (the mole is rich and subtle), covered with architectural-looking spun sugar, sitting on a bed of chocolate, and beet and sweet potato crisps. Get a smidge of each ingredient on your spoon, and you will be transported. I felt like I needed time alone with my dessert. We were made for each other.
I haven't even mentioned all the personal attention we received, both the manager and Chef Olea stopped by our table to check in, and they were lovely. We've been to some wonderful restaurants over the years in many places, and Sazon stands out as one of the best. I feel like this is telling someone a movie is great, and I don't mean to over-rhapsodize, but truly, don't miss it if you live in or are visiting Santa Fe. Sazon is a one-of-a-kind culinary experience.More
