We never realized that Santa Fe was such a foodie city, with some top-class restaurants. A follow on to celebrate our anniversary, this restaurant has a lot to offer. From staff, location to a very select menu. They had a special on Oysters which we...had watched people devour, made my mind up to have them as a starter, unfortunately they had sold out by the time we ordered. For starters we had the soup of the day for me and my wife had the English Pea Tortellini, main course we ate the Roasted Heritage Pork Tenderloin and the Roasted Leg of Lamb. An interesting dessert was Sticky Toffee Pudding, when researching this restaurant, they had this as a special for that period. Being as we are British; on my initial reservation I asked if they could provide this for us to celebrate our anniversary. The French Maitre de advised us that they had a surprise for us, needless to say my portion was a spoonful. The ambiance, the food the service all is first class. KUDOS.More

We have been eating at The Compound since the late '70s and have never been disappointed. On our most recent visit the service was welcoming and very professional; the sommelier recommended a perfect pairing for our lunch of lobster salad and roast salmon. The food...was well prepared and delicious. The prices are on a par with the quality.More

I have read reviews from several others pertaining to getting hit with an unnecessary cancellation fee ($70 in my case) and also not being able to talk to a live person on the phone. My experience was very similar to many others that have complained...about the same thing. First, let me start by saying that this was to be our very first time eating at The Compound. We had heard great things about the place from good friends of ours. We were very excited to finally get the chance to try the restaurant. Having never been to this restarant and also being out-of-towners, we wanted to physically locate the restaurant the day before to insure that we would know where to go the following day for our reservation. Upon arrival the day before, the restaurant was closed and there was a note on the door stating that due to unforeseen circumstances, the restaurant was closed. The note was very vague and offered no firm dates or times of re-opening. We could visibly see workers inside doing what appeared to be some fairly substantial repair work (we later learned they had a water leak). Suffice it to say, we were doubtful that there was any way possible that the restaurant would be operational the very next day. As a result, we immediately started calling the phone number of the restaurant to inquire. As many have noted, they very rarely pick-up the phone so as to be able to talk to a live person and there's NO WAY to leave any type of voice message for a call back. On their answering message, they clearly state that someone would be there to answer the phone during the hours of 10:30 - Noon and also 2:30 - 5:00. This is absolutely NOT the case. We tried calling the rest of the afternoon and all the following morning (day of the reservation). Keep in mind that we were staying clear across the other side of town and seeing what we had seen only hours the day before (note on door and workers everywhere) and not being able to get anyone to answer the phone, I last-minute cancelled the reservation via the Resy app. Yes - technically, I cancelled outside of the cancellation time frame and I can respect that. However, due to the unusual cirmstances at hand, I would have thought that there could have been some allowances made. Again, no one would ever pick-up the phone and I literally tried calling til around 11:30 a.m. the day of the reservation and no one would every pick-up. According to the restaurant, they were open that day. When I discovered after the fact that my credit card had been charged a $70 cancellation fee, that's when I reached out to the restaurant to see what, if anything, could be done. Once again, since I could never get anyone on the phone to discuss the situation, that's when I emailed the restaurant. Rodolphe, the General Manger, did respond to my email and wow - just wow - the condescending tone and arrogance of his reply left me in absolute shock. There was at no point in his response any type of empathy, apology for potential misunderstanding given the unusual circumstances described, etc. - instead, I got a lecture email from him. There was absolutely no willingness on his part to somehow work with me for a future visit or any type of good customer service offered. I even explained that very good friends of ours (also from out of town) had recommended The Compound to us and I even explained that our friends have family that live in Santa Fe that go to The Compound regularly. However, once they learn of this situation, I can assure you that they will no longer frequent this restaurant. For $70, they are willing to forego hundreds and hundreds of dollars in future business??? Hmmmm, doesn't sound like a good business plan to me. Based on so many others that have had similar experiences with being charged cancellation fees, it just seems as if this place is doing a money-grab. Be warned!!!!More

My husband and I dined at the Compound for lunch on 2/2/24. Our meals were delicious - chicken schnitzel is massive and is to die for! My husband got the burger and was so pleased. Almost every staff member was delightful - from the hostess,...to the woman who filled our waters and cleared our tables, to the gentleman who delivered our meals. But - our primary server was disappointing. She took 15 minutes to greet us and take drink orders, left way too much time in between checking on us, and made little effort to connect with us at all. For such a lovely atmosphere and delicious meal, I would have liked to have a warmer interaction with our server. Not in a huge rush to go back because of that factor. Food was incredible though!More

The Compound is a homey restaurant with such friendly staff I am writing about the most delightful hamburger with Poblamo Chili peppers and French Fries. It was cooked to perfection I am picky about my burgers and I must say my Medium Burger far exceeded...my standards. Your attentive Staff and kind Hostess made for a lovely lunch. As a longtime visitor to Santa Fe you are in my top three places of upscale dining. Thanks for making my lunch special. I can see why Oprah Winfrey among others rate you so highly. I enjoyed reading about your architecture and history. I'll be back and will definitely send people your way. Please ignore the baseless reviews. Its not the fault of the Compound if you need to cancel your reservation outside of their policy. I expect this at any fine dining establishment. To the person who said the burger is flavorless that's so untrue .It's the most delicate burger made with love.More

Have been going here for over a decade. Generally outstanding, but something has changed since they brought in a new executive chef. I can’t put my finger on it - staff are running around unnecessarily (something another reviewer spotted in September). They look hurried, or...perhaps harried. But it’s best left addressed soonest by management. And the dear, sad, sticky toffee pudding. A fiasco. Cold to the touch. How it left the kitchen remains a mystery. So, some work to do here. Looking forward to seeing them in February. Hope springs eternal.More

This restaurant is truly superb. The service, ambience, and food all were outstanding. Although it's not inexpensive, it's absolutely worth the price. Everything we had here was just outstanding, beautifully prepared and served, and absolutely delicious. (Duck breast, lobster and scallop mixture, sticky toffee pudding,...arugula salad). The restaurant is beautiful and comfortable, and it has off-street parking. I cannot recommend it highly enough.More

We love the Compound and have always had great service and unbelievable cuisine! What treat, so very special. The beef tenderloin and lamb shank with delicious vegetables were out-of- this world!! Server (Pedro) does quite a professional job, always fun to speak with, as well....The extra highlight was getting to know Rodolphe the GM, how personable and sincere he is. My travel buddy and I decided to treat ourselves to An Elegant meal and based on the reviews we chose The Compound. We had the tenderloin and the lamb shank both superb. When we finished we were one of only two tables in the main...area so we asked if we could split our check. The waiter told us he would look into it and came back with split checks. And a lecture about how they don't normally do that and usually people just slap down a credit card and they don't bother about dividing. When we asked if he had said we don't do that that would have been the end of it and it would have been a five-star experience but instead we felt like we were being demeaned and lectured... As two older single women this was a horrible way to be treated.More

The Compound has been my family's go-to restaurant for special occasions for decades, and has always been delightful. That is why our visit last week was so very disappointing. Our party of four was seated promptly at the time of our reservation. The ambience was...lovely, as usual. The problem was our waiter, Emmanuel. I have been a server, and I understand that anyone can have a bad day; however, this felt personal. As three of our party were driving, the only alcohol we ordered was one glass of wine. From that moment on, Emmanuel began to treat us in a disdainful manner. I ordered the Schnitzel, which I have eaten on previous visits, and mentioned that I have an allergy to onions, just in case chives were typically added as a garnish. When our food arrived, the Schnitzel was served without the sauce, so was just a large piece of breaded chicken. Emmanuel did not come back to our table, and I observed him going to all the other tables in his section except ours. He even ironed the tablecloth on an adjacent table before returning to ask if everything was alright. I then had the opportunity to ask him about the sauce for my entree. He told me the sauce had scallions, onions and leeks in it, and added that the restaurant takes allergies very seriously. I told him that I was surprised the sauce contained all of these ingredients, as I have eaten it before and not had my typical reaction to onions. I asked him to please bring me a side dish of the sauce. Instead of simply fulfilling my request, Emmanuel proceeded to lecture me about how seriously the restaurant takes allergies, ignoring me telling him that I also take my allergy seriously and repeating that I have eaten this dish in the past without a problem. Several times, he loudly repeated that this decision was on me. I said, of course it is on me. He finally brought the sauce after my companions had just about finished their entrees. Because of Emmanuel's attitude toward us, we decided to forego dessert for this Birthday lunch, and we all left feeling quite disappointed. I think the management needs to have a discussion with this waiter about his attitude.More

Our experience was at lunch. Lovely atmosphere, convenient parking and quality wine fairly priced. That said the service was spotty. Server forgot the bread, disappeared for long stretches, didn’t know what wines were in stock (table next to ours ordered 2 different bottles and server...came back twice saying they were out of that bottle). That said he was making an effort and was pleasant. Gazpacho was incredibly bland. Burger the same problem. Chicken schnitzel was nicely prepared but the spinach was unseasoned. First time at the Compound. Had heard good things. Lots of parking -- a plus for Canyon Road! Nice atmosphere -- an old house. Friendly staff -- everyone smiles and talks to you. Good, quick, efficient service. One slice of bread per diner, plus butter,...brought to table. Appetizers (crab louie and corn soup) were good, though portions are small. Main -- Black Angus -- good, very tender. Yukon gold potato fondant was just cooked slices of potato. Good, but why the fancy description? Main -- wild mushrooms and polenta -- good Desserts -- sounded good on the menu -- apricot frangipani tart, torta della nonna -- but both were bland. Did not care for them. Two soft drinks (we don't drink). Bill without tip: $178. They don't list prices on the website. And I knew in advance that it is an expensive restaurant. But the price is a deal-breaker for future visits, and is the main reason why three stars. A little rant -- and this is my opinion -- no more over-priced "elegant" restaurants with fair-to-good food when there are so many good moderately priced (or even inexpensive) places in Santa Fe.More

3 couples, busy night. Food was wonderful. Something is off on the service. Staff always seemed to be running yet actual service was slow. Request for misc things like salt, water refill, a glass of wine took forever to arrive. Things seemed to be placed...on the table at light speed as though staff had to be elsewhere a second later, so no sense of relaxed dining. Not enough support staff? Entrée prices in the $40's and $50's so one would think staffing should be appropriate. Even waiting for the check took too long.More
