Lunched today in one of Santa Fe's most beautiful dining locations...patio seating is lovely (pre-book), but indoors special too...our patio table was perfect on a gorgeous afternoon, all our dishes were well-prepared & presented, and our server helpful & friendly (thanks, 'Alex'!). It is among the pricier places here, but for special occasions it fills the bill nicely. Excellent (again,... More

At a recent dinner (reservation for 12 at 2 round tables) we were very disappointed with both the food and service. One of our party ordered two different wines from the wine list only to be told neither were available. The wait for our entrees was one hour-- several orders were cold when served. One order of pork was undercooked.... More

Much like other reviews before me, I do not understand how on Indian Market weekend you cannot be prepared from a service perspective? Our food was stellar, not exceptional, beautiful courtyard, our bus boy became our waiter. Not his fault, he did a great job trying to make up for our waiter being overwhelmed! There are too many great restaurants... More

A Birthday Ruined by Mediocre Food; Sky high Prices; Poor Service! For years The Compound was one of Santa Fe’s best restaurants and one of our favorites. First as visitors and ultimately as longtime residents of Santa Fe we had enjoyed many a lovely luncheon there, especially for birthdays. However, the last time we dined at The Compound, we had... We visited Compound Saturday evening of the annual festival, and even though the restaurant was crowded, we experienced excellent, friendly service and the food was outstanding. My wife had the lobster tail over pasta and I had the pork tenderloin. Both were well prepared and extremely tasty. The restaurant has plentiful outdoor seating, and I recommend it if wine list... We had reservations and arrived on time. Were seated and we could immediately tell our server was far too busy to provide expected service. Service was slow and we had to wait 15 minutes after and entrée was served for the side order of mac and cheese. Overall staff was "cool" and we almost got up and left.

We have always had great experiences at The Compound while visiting Santa Fe almost annually for the past 20-plus years. I read some of the reviews here and was kind of shocked to see people reporting bad service and so-so food. We've always had pleasant experiences, friendly waitstaff, terrific food and we feel we get our money's worth (it's not... More

The restaurant has outside tables which make for a very agreeable lunch venue. The service was good yet some details should be ironed out: wine bottles should not be left on the table. Also plate stacking is not acceptable in a restaurant of this caliber. But nothing that detracts from an otherwise good cuisine and excellent surrounding patio and garden.

My girlfriend and I came to the Compound after it was highly recommended by multiple friends and it did not disappoint whatsoever. Best service. Best wine selection as recommended by our server. And the best appetizers, entree, and dessert combo we've ever had. The tuna tar tar appetizer was phenomenal. My girlfriend had the beef tenderloin for her entree and... More

Yes, it's pricey, but this is Santa Fe. And the food was amazing, no complaints. Started with sweetbreads and fois gras: OMG! I had the chicken breast, which I usually wouldn't order since it's often dull. This was perfection. Chocolate Baked Alaska for dessert was to die for. The atmosphere is quiet and Southwestern without being over the top. The... More

Description
Mark Kiffin, celebrated chef, owner, and author of the Compound Restaurant, has won the James Beard Foundation award as one of America's Best Chefs. The Compound is Santa Fe's premier restaurant with Chef Kiffin's acclaimed seasonal Contemporary American cuisine derived from Santa Fe's rich heritage of regional and Mediterranean influences. The New York Times, Gourmet magazine, The Wall Street Journal and Wine Spectator have all selected the Compound as Santa Fe's favorite. Equally impressive is the attentive, highly knowledgeable and friendly staff. Chef Kiffin's menus focus on the exclusive changes in seasons such as hearty braised dishes in the fall and winter using apples, pears and cider from local harvests, osso bucco and porcini risotto while in spring and summer feature fresh local vegetables and naturally raised organic lamb and delectable strawberries.
