The Compound is a homey restaurant with such friendly staff I am writing about the most delightful hamburger with Poblamo Chili peppers and French Fries. It was cooked to perfection
I am picky about my burgers and I must say my Medium Burger far exceeded my standards. Your attentive Staff and kind Hostess made for a lovely lunch.
As a longtime visitor to Santa Fe you are in my top three places of upscale dining.
Thanks for making my lunch special. I can see why Oprah Winfrey among others rate you so highly.
I enjoyed reading about your architecture and history.
I'll be back and will definitely send people your way.
Please ignore the baseless reviews. Its not the fault of the Compound if you need to cancel your reservation outside of their policy. I expect this at any fine dining establishment. To the person who said the burger is flavorless that's so untrue .It's the most delicate burger made with love.

This was a planned birthday dinner reservation done quite some time in advance, so imagine my annoyance when this very costly restaurant calls the afternoon of to tell us we have two hours to dine. We eat out a lot, and when we are going to high end restaurants, we always like to savor it. And we spend like it too. I know that some restaurants have this policy in the age of COVID, and I understand the reasons for it. I have no issue with it. But it should be disclosed on their website, on Opentable when making the reservation, or in person by a phone call way before the day of. We were left with liking it or lumping it. That is pretty terrible hospitality. So, we just went with the flow, but it was a sour note.
The service was impeccable, as always. Our server was very capable, friendly, and eager to be of assistance, as was everyone else we encountered. The Sommelier here is outstanding, one of the best, in any city. The food was a bit.... meh. The rabbit spiedini and the house made ravioli was very good. No complaints at all. But the breast of duck with bok choy, napa cabbage, sweet pepper, and fermented black bean sauce, and plum relish sounded much more interesting than it was. In fact, it was bland, and the flavor combinations were incoherent. I would say that the concept failed, but so did execution. I asked for my duck breast to be rare, as duck breast tends to toughen the more it cooks. I would normally expect that the duck breast was thin sliced, but these were two large chunks of breast. So, while the inside was rare, naturally the outside of the chunks was tough and brown. This is not what I would, or should expect from this caliber of restaurant. I hope this improves. The ambiance of this place makes it one of the best places to be.

Not so much fancy as corporate in atmosphere, but the bar appeared to be a cool little hangout. I have autoimmune disease and asked for the food to be prepared a certain way and to ensure I didn't get dairy, soy, canola and several other ingredients. The waitress was casual to the point of being checked out about my restrictions telling me everything would be prepared as I requested. There were fried items in my salad which she told me were not fried, my steak arrived with a sauce on the side that later turned out to contain "just a little butter" as if to convey it would be okay, they made a new sauce that tasted like chicken stock reduction with cigarette ashes (gross), and the mushrooms were covered in butter regardless of what the waitress said and I later got sick as a result. There was a general uncaring vibe around my issues and overall the food was something of a letdown for the price.

I took three friends for a celebration lunch on July 1st. Two of us got the chicken schnitzel and the other guest got the lobster salad, the third guest had to send her salmon back twice because it wasn't cooked. The bill was close to $400.00 with tip. The two who got the chicken were sick that afternoon. I only learned later, that my friend who got the salom was violently sick that night. My attempts to to talk to the manager have met with silence.

A lot has been written about this treasure of a restaurant tucked away inside a residential neighborhood in Santa Fe. 10 years ago I had my first experience pairing wine with well crafted cuisine. I can happily report that a decade later the service, quality, and atmosphere of this institution has not waivered to any degree. An absolute must.

This is our favorite restaurant in Santa Fe, here is why... The dining room is open and welcoming, the building is an art piece deserving of it's place on Canyon Road. Bryan the GM sat us immediately and had picked out a lovely table for us in the moon room. We were immediately warmly greeted by Freddy our server. He and his support continued perfect service for the entirety of the evening I might add. The cocktails were perfectly executed by the bartender. From start to finish you heard oohs and ahs, you'd look up from your plate and see everyone at the table smiling with delight after each bite, Chef Kiffin did not disappoint, every single plate was enjoyed and marveled. Dessert brought more grins. Everything about our experience was exquisite. We will be back again and again.

Last night, we had a beautiful vegan dinner, prepared, just for us. The owner/chef, and sous chef, both came to our table, and asked, if they could offer an, off menu, vegan risotto, dish. This was made especially for us, and was so thoughtful, and just perfect.
My husband, and I, love, fine dining, in elegant restaurants, but sometimes, it is hard to find restaurants, like this, that offer vegan options. The Compound, is top of the line, in every way, wonderful food, great service, and a beautiful atmosphere.
We have been visiting Santa Fe, and coming to The Compound, for over 25 years!
The compound, is our favorite, now, and for the last 25 years!

We have been to The Compound on several occasions over the years. Our lunch today was by far the worst food we have ever had at this restaurant.
First, what worked.
The beet salad was terrific.
The onion rings were excellent.
Now, what didn’t work.
The lobster salad had almost no lobster. For $28 what was served was a salad with .001 ounces of lobster.
The poke salad was only marginally better.
The morel mushrooms were tasteless.
The oysters in the poor boy were overbreaded and salty. The bun did not stand up to their Mayo, and crumbled making it inedible. A firmer roll would have been much better.
It was a really poor-quality meal and my last visit ever to The Compound.
I should add that the service was great. It’s just the food…

We booked a table after getting recommendations about this place . Must say we were a bit disappointed. On the good side was the ambiance and 3 good dishes: The goner soup, the polenta and the chocolate cake for desert were good . However the lettuce salad that looked great was tasteless and the salmon dish was blaring . The chef needs to improve his cooking knowledge. The bread plate served with butter was dry and included also one broken cracker...🥲

This was our second visit to The Compound. The first was during Restaurant Week two years ago and we had a fabulous experience. We arrived and were seated at the exact time of our reservation, 5:15. As we were perusing the drinks menu, the hostess returned to our table and said, “Just a reminder, we have a 2 hour seating limit.” This struck us as very rude, as there was absolutely no reason to believe we would be lingering beyond a reasonable time - we had just sat down two minutes before. Our dinner, first course, and entree all arrived shortly. We had dessert and left our table in an hour and 15 minutes. NONE of the other diners who were seated after us, in quite close proximity, received the same “time warning”. The Compound deserves its reputation as one of Santa Fe’s finest restaurants, but we did not appreciate being warned of overstaying within moments of being seated.

Thank you for your review! We appreciate your feedback and apologize for the delivery of the two-hour time frame for the early seating. Due to COVID, we created early seating at 5 pm and later seating at 7 pm to help us with capacity limitations (which are now removed) and employee shortages (which are still currently happening). If you would prefer to have a longer experience please feel free to make a reservation during the late seating at 7 pm. We look forward to seeing you again.

My wife and I had an exquisite late lunch here. Weather permitting, you should consider dining outside, but you cannot miss the original artistic interiors, particularly the large dining room waved ceiling and the original art. My burger was served perfectly medium rare with some of the best onions rings I have ever had, and for $22, it was a great value. My wife enjoyed her lobster salad, and if you order it, insist it be served lightly dressed, as the natural flavors should not be overwhelmed. The service was excellent and fine, with great attention to detail.

The service and food can be summed up in that one word, superb! It's been a long time since we've had such a wonderful experience. Our waitress obviously loves working here and was able to answer any questions about the menu. It was difficult to choose what to order because everything sounded so good.
My wife began with the beet salad with grapefruit sections while I had the corn soup. No dairy in it and scrumptious. We both ordered the halibut that came with a large shrimp and mussels in a broth with beans. Cooked perfectly and the mussels were briny. We finished up with desserts, me a strawberry meringue tart while my wife had an apricot tartlet. Both were great.
I highly recommend the Compound. It's a special place.

We had a lovely weekday lunch at Compound. The service was outstanding, our server Will was very knowledgable on the menu and wines. The salmon was probably the best I've had, prepared with beautiful winter vegetables. All of the food was prepared beautifully. Ambiance is elegant and warm. Would definitely recommend!

Well let’s say it was a mediocre overly expensive meal. First off, if you make a reservation for outside dining you should honor it. If you cannot sit your customers outside as reserved, then send a round of drinks or dessert on the house. In our case that did not happen. The portions are minuscule that are served out of an eye dropper. I will say the servers are attentive. This place is pretentious, go elsewhere. It is just not worth the cost

Thank you for your review. As noted on our website, our inclement weather policy pertaining to rain and severe weather conditions, such as wind can make it impractical for us to provide a superior quality of service to our guests. If the possibility of inclement weather exists, we will either relocate the reservation inside if space is available or reschedule the patio reservation for a nicer day. We would appreciate your understanding as sometimes mother nature has other plans. Furthermore, our portion sizes are substantial and often guests take home leftovers; but of course, that depends on a guest's preconceived expectation as to what is "large" or even "small" is. In this case, possibly an all your can eat restaurant might be more suitable and affordable.

Over the top, one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe to date! Our sever, Mari, was so attentive, informative, and hospitable. We were warmly and sincerely welcomed to the restaurant and seated at a lovely corner table. The menu is over the top with each dish made with the freshest ingredients and innovative recipes to showcase the chef’s unique preparations. Wine menu is worthy of the earned Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence. Open for lunch during the week, be sure to make a reservation for either dinner (closed Sunday and Monday) or lunch (12-2PM) …or both!
