Great food and atmosphere - must for foodies

Dinner that night was for three at the Duck Soup Inn that is just a restaurant on the road to Roche Harbor, about 15 minutes at best from town. Great place and great food, likely the best meal of our two week plus trip to Washington and Oregon.. And we were joined (the third party) for dinner by... read more

My husband and I had dinner at Duck Soup back in August. The restaurant was busy and clearly there were many reservations though it wasn't a full house. We waited for about 30 minutes before we could finally order. We were starving by then. Main courses came with soup and salad, which was nice. Our food was generally good. Though... More

This was our last visit to this dreadful place. It was some of the worst food on this island. While the chef likes to experiment he should do so on his on dime. Mystery sauce and seasoning on my unpalatable entree, which seemed to be chicken that had been cooked and then deep fried, made it inedible. $100 with a... More

Our first ever visit to San Juan Island required advance research on where to stay, where to eat and where to view sunsets. Overall we hit a home run on just about everything except this place which had been highly recommended by several people, including a former resident of the island. You need to know this restaurant is hard to... More

It would be great if places that supposedly have top chefs, would offer at least one dedicated vegan entree. A vegan does not always feel like a salad on a chilly night. They were very accommodating though and I had a delicious plate of sides- beet salad, pickled carrots and cabbage, purple potatoes and green beans. It would be nice... More

As a local, one is often reluctant to provide negative feedback about community establishment but enough is enough. We had been to this restaurant 3 times over the past 11 years, hoping each visit would live up to the hype. It didn't. Friends made a reservation there this past weekend and we were hesitant to say "no". Besides, maybe under... More

I love the outdoor space and the atmosphere inside the restaurant. The greeter is wonderful and accommodating. The food was pretty yummy although the salmon was overcooked and our server did not explain how everything worked. We had heard so much about the restaurant and we were excited to try it and while it was not our favorite meal or... More

A little bit of a drive from Friday Harbor but worth the effort. A good and varied menu and wine list and good beers as well. Friendly and helpful staff.

My friend and I had a delightful dinner at the Duck Soup Inn the evening of Oct 1. She ordered the chicken and said it was the moistest chicken she had ever eaten. I ordered the Steak Diane and it came with some of the best fries I have ever tasted. The steak was served in small tender pieces -... More

Duck Soup is outwardly as charming as ever and the wait staff is terrific. The menu has several old-time favorites; the duck breast and steak Diane are still available, but our dinner tonight was definitely not in the high $30's range for taste Quality or originality.
