Rocky Bay is a small restaurant on Friday Harbor’s main thoroughfare serving flavorful breakfasts and lunch throughout the year. It tends to get VERY busy in the summer and you will often find a line outside and harried servers inside doing their best in a small space. The food servings are plentiful and my favorite, crab cake Benedict, is a delectable thing. Hollandaise is made on site with a hint of lemon and the crab can be tasted through the perfectly cooked egg and English muffin. The toughest part of the cafe in winter is the often swinging door leaving nearby diners with freezing calves. Ambiance can change dramatically depending on the crowd but on a calm day the place is friendly, welcoming, and prone to a good chat about the island. Regardless of the day, you’ll get honest, good and sometimes very good American food.

Welcome Breakfast in San Juan We stayed up Spring Street at a hotel that had “breakfast” which consisted of avocado toast. Period. Found this place with good reviews. Only issue was that everyone else knows about it for breakfast and usually there is a 45 minute wait. Ours was only 10 minutes, but worth it. Good small breakfast place with typical menu of egg dishes and pancakes. All good.

Groups of people waiting outside for a table is usually a good sign of a great place to eat. No exception here. We visited on the Friday of a long weekend and those waiting were a mix of tourists and locals/regulars. Another sign that the wait would be worth it. The host and server were very friendly. The food was delicious. I appreciate places that offer different versions of eggs Benedict because I don’t eat ham. If we visit San Juan Island again, we’ll stop in for brunch again. This time perhaps we’ll enjoy a Bloody Mary or mimosa!

We were looking for breakfast for two adults and three teenagers. This place was perfect. The service is prompt and efficient. Our server, Natasha, was friendly and helpful. The bacon pesto scramble and the smoked salmon Benny were the highlights of our meal, but all 5 entrees were flavorful and everyone finished their orders. Highly recommended.

So we are in town with our adult children and grandkids. I arrive early because they say there is usually a wait. But they had a table before we were all there. We had a 7 month old and 2 year old that were running late because they did not sleep well. We were told that they would not seat us until all arrived. I said I would check and see when the other little ones would arrive. I found out it would be a bit so I went to tell the gentleman we would wait, go ahead and let others in first. He said, it was ok and they would go ahead and seat us. We said ok, we ordered and I connected with the rest of the group to get their order. Took a few minutes to respond as they were dealing with little ones. When I added to the order for my other daughter and grand daughter we were told that was a bad thing.....we would take our table twice. They agreed and took our extra order. Server came back and said, "cooks were upset but she got them to do it." I asked if I could also get an order to go and they said no.they don't do that. The rest of the time we were treated like they were doing us a favor serving us. I get that they are busy and one of the only breakfast places around with a wait, but that does not mean it is ok to be rude. When I asked for a container to take the left overs, it was kinda dropped on the table. We were pushed to eat quickly, and then as we left, my daughter watched the served "bump" my wife in the back with a plate and another server say "clear the path". Clearly we were not wanted. I get it, we took a bit longer with 4 little ones under under 6 and 3 under 3. I did leave a tip, but only about 10%. Didn't really deserve it. They have clearly forgotten that service is part of running a restaurant. Even if they have lots of customers. Up to you if you want to go. I will not return. My family was appauled at the service too. By the way, the food was OK. Maybe the level of a national chain like Dennys.

You may have to wait a bit as this place is very popular but worth the wait. The owner is friendly and seems to be everywhere all at once - busing tables, seating customers and even helping in the kitchen. Extensive breakfast menu and some of the best coffee I've ever had. My corned beef hash was homemade and full of corned beef. Every dish I saw looked really great. Lots of locals eating there - seems to be the go-to spot for breakfast in Friday Harbor.

Placed our car in the ferry line and had a couple hours on a Sunday morning, so stopped by for breakfast. Wife got oatmeal with cranberries, walnuts, and since she didn't want the brown sugar, they provided extra walnuts which was nice. My traditional eggs and bacon was solid, hash browns were good, if not quite as crisp as I like, they were very thick. Coffee was refilled often, though it was a little on the strong side, which I don't mid, but people should be ready. People were nice, lots of locals, but no problem finding a table at 8:30 in the morning.

This small café in Friday Harbor is indeed unique. The food is very tasty and served in larger amounts for a small price. The owner is friendly and actually speaks to you as if you were a friend. The art on the walls is very interesting and enjoyable to look at. Best of all, the food is excellent!

We were only on the island for two mornings and after our first breakfast at Rocky's we had to return! Service is fast and friendly and to the point, the food will have you coming back again and again! I had the Classic breakfast the first morning and it was spot on. Eggs cooked perfect, toast crispy and hot and with plenty of butter and bacon that was to die for. Hubby had the chicken fried steak and loved it! Not the typical frozen patty, a real meat patty and delicious gravy with perfectly cooked eggs. Next day hubby had the corned beef benedict and I had the crispy chicken wrap. Both were excellent! Hubby always needs extra hollandaise but not this time, it was perfectly sauced! The crispy chicken wrap is loaded with chicken and bacon, I mean loaded!! Oh, and the shoestring fries are addicting, be fair warned!! Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

COVID was on so I needed breakfast and I needed it to go. I would say to the owners, put your menu on your website. I’d heard so many good things about Rocky Bay Cafe that I dug around thru the internet and finally found reviews and a menu. The rest was wonderful, eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, you must try it.

We had such a good, appropriately priced breakfast here that it lasted all day! We are at 8 and we’re not hungry again till dinner time! My 7 year old daughter devoured her blueberry pancakes which she rarely does. I had the meat lovers omelette, delicious! Might be crowded but don’t be out off by it. The service is amazing and somehow they keep things moving. Such hard work into making this a great place. We re going back tomorrow for breakfast!

My daughter, son and son in-law went to the cafe for breakfast prior to my daughter and I having to catch the ferry at 11:05 a.m. I ordered the 2x2, which came with 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon or sausage (I ordered the bacon which didn’t disappoint) and I opted for the biscuit and I’m glad I did. It was baked fresh that morning. My son ordered the corned beef breakfast. If I remember correctly it had the corned beef on the bottom, topped on that with a nice sized portion of their homemade potatoes. I might add also that the corned beef was a good size portion as well. Then to top it off, the meal had crumbled bacon, if I remember correctly and then eggs on top, cooked how you’d like. My daughter ordered the French toast. I can’t remember if it came with any sides, but she got a good size portion and she shared a bite with me. Excellent French toast. I honestly can’t remember what my son in-law ordered. We all said our dishes were very filling and really good. For the big portion sizes, the large orange juices that we got, the bills were very good. Great staff, location, parking on a weekday and cute little restaurant. Highly recommend.

This place is perfect for breakfast lovers— aka my husband! They graciously also serve lunch even during breakfast hours, which is what I ordered. Veggie burger. Great friendly and efficient staff. Huge portions and clearly a favorite because it is always packed. 👍🏼

Received a warm welcome as we walked into this cozy cafe that’s a local favorite. Ordered a breakfast burrito, a huevos rancheros special and a simple eggs:toast:sausage breakfast. The burrito and the special were absolutely delicious. Ever notice how local law enforcement gravitate to the best cafes? We found them here. If you’re seeking a breakfast cafe in Friday Harbor, this is the place.

It is all go in this cafe! Even on a quiet weekday off season this little cafe was very busy! Recommend getting there early (before 8.30am ish) to sit straight down. Lots of coffee refills, lots of options on menu, decent value, staff working amazingly hard. Enjoyed our breakfast here.
