Went to Coho to celebrate my wife’s birthday and were very disappointed. We have dined at Coho several times over the years so we expected a nice experience. Food presentation was nice but it was all show and no go. What are described as large...plates are actually small plates. I had the venison special that had only 3 cubes of meat. My wife had seafood pasta…a few clams from Canada and a few shreds of halibut..menu described it as local fish. Our guest had rabbit that was bland and dry. Also, wine was opened in the kitchen rather than at the table. Our server was new to the job and was very pleasant. So, we had a $300+ mediocre experience. At a high end price point, I would recommend Duck Soup Inn or McMillans.More

We ate at Coho recently, and the overall experience was underwhelming. The staff was attentive, and our server was efficient and very sweet. The high point was the valencia orange cake for dessert. Not overly sweet, moist, and great texture for a gluten free option....There were multiple components missing from our starter. I ordered the halibut for my main, and while the sear was nice, most of the fish was overcooked. There was so little of the beet aioli, it was like it wasn't on the plate at all. My husband had the lamb papardalle. The pasta was cooked well, but the lamb had little flavor. The primary issue with the food was a lack of seasoning. I would rather have my food under-salted than too salty, so we were able to enjoy the entire meal. However, some salt would have improved what was basically an edible meal.More

Went out for a quiet dinner for an anniversary and found that this place favors large and loud groups. I do not intend to return. I would suggest other restaurants on the island for nice meals.More

We're sorry to hear that your anniversary meal was marred by the noise of a neighboring table. Due to the setup of our intimate restaurant, large groups are generally the exception and most diners are enjoying romantic evenings or catching up with friends. Our apologies...More

Just had dinner at Coho, the food was quite good, however, there was a group of ~10 seated next to us that were extremely loud, we couldn’t even hear each other talk. The wait staff seemed focused on that table and our service was not...good. We were sitting for 10 minutes before anyone asked if we wanted a cocktail, and then they wanted to just take our whole order at once. We had to flag someone down for bread, a glass of wine, etc. For a $200+ dinner I expect better.More

Based on earlier reviews, my friend and I looked forward to eating at Coho Restaurant as the highlight of our trip. Unfortunately, both food and service were uneven…veering from very , very good to unacceptable. We were seated outside but had been assured heaters were...available when we made the reservation. On a cold evening, the meal was half over before the heat could be turned on ..despite several requests. Our waitress was lovely and tried hard but was new at her job…day 3 exactly. A little bit of training ahead of time would have been warranted as basic questions could not be answered (but she would assiduously leave to seek the answer.) We each ordered the 4 course tasting meal and wine pairings. The wine pairings for each course were superb…no complaints there. One of us had the salad and found it disappointing. Butter lettuce was listed but none was in the salad. Pickled fiddlehead ferns were promised but only 2 to be found. The root end of a giant piece of red lettuce had not been cleaned and the piece was too large. On the other hand, the other starter of spring asparagus was a delight. Likewise, the second course of Spot Prawns and crab was a memorable dish while the Rabbit tortellini were a mild disappointment. The consommé was not flavorful and a large clump of mushrooms too large to eat. No spoon was offered with this course either and it was cold before the waitress showed up again to request one. The major disappointment was the main course of halibut on wild rice, pickled ramps, black rice, bok choy, miso and ginger. The halibut was superb- perfectly cooked with a crisp crust. . There was no pickled ramps, the bok choy and rice and sauce were cold and there was not a bit of miso or ginger in the flavorless sauce. I am reluctant to complain but felt it important to report fairly when asked. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious chocolate soufflé. As a result of our complaint, the waitress returned to offer a free dessert as compensation which was gratefully accepted. On returning home, we discovered one thin slice of cake even though two of us had the disappointing halibut. It makes me doubt how sincerely the restaurant wanted to provide compensation. Overall, the inventive menu did not live up to the descriptions and the food and service did not justify the high prices. We had better food at other restaurants on the island. I hope this was simply a bad night but I doubt if we will return.More

This is a tiny restaurant in tony Friday Harbor. There were only a few tables, since outside seating was precluded by the rain. The three course prix fixe was reasonably priced for this quality. All the dishes were creative cooked and plated. There was a...small but well-chosen list of local wines, about which we got advice from the chef. All if all, a wonderful experience. Reservations are essential!More

I had the chef’s menu. Interesting and tasty selections. Good value at $50. The $30 wine pairing was overpriced. Three 2 1/2 pours from the wines by the glass list. The wines were good, but for $5 more you could have a full pour of...all three wines off the menu. My wife had the First Seating dinner (3 course) for $30. The salad, soup and entree were 4 of 5 good. Desert was an underwhelming chocolate ice cream. (vanilla was an option). Service was friendly but seemed fairly inexperienced for a nice restaurant.More
