The Menger Hotel is widely believed to be one of the most haunted places in Texas. I didn't see anything scary, but there's much that's out of the ordinary. Firstly, this hotel is relatively old. It opened in 1859, and it is absolutely beautiful inside. Theodore Roosevelt recruited many of the rough riders in the hotel's bar. Just outside the... More

The decor and appointments in the Colonial Room were reminiscent of an earlier era. The chandeliers and pillars made the room very elegant. We had dinner there and the lamb chops were excellent but the schnitzel and spetzle weren't great. We also had 3 breakfasts in the Colonial and these were very good.

The food and service at the Colonial Room are hard to beat. As part of the historic Menger Hotel, it has the same unmatched historic beauty. We only had time for breakfast during our stay, each time, but it was very good!

Great service and the food was perfect for a day of walking and exploring in San Antonio. From eggs to order, southern cheese grits, smoked bacon, fresh fruit and more this was a wonderful start to the day.

My husband and I were staying at the Menger Hotel, so we decided to just eat dinner in the Colonial Room Restaurant. The actual Colonial Room was closed for renovations, so we were in the Minuet Room which was a nice size. We got there around 5:45pm. There were no other diners. We were seated promptly, and our waiter, Jose,... More

A very nice brunch location in downtown San Antonio. Just steps away from the Alamo and River Center Mall, this hotel is centrally located to some great landmarks and the San Antonio Riverwalk. Several food options available to include an omelet bar, a meat station, and seafood with pasta and other miscellaneous breakfast/lunch menu items. Live music played by a... More

This is a fine dining restaurant inside a hotel. There were a lot of staff around at certain times, there were only a few diners in a very large room. The waiter was unsure if they had any beer on tap - they don't - he brought a bottle of beer and a glass and let us pour it, when... More

Saturday, we had the typical hot buffet - eggs, omelets, bacon, sausage, French toast, biscuits, fruit, oatmeal, coffee and juice. It was awesome. Sunday was a brunch to include prime rib, ham, the best bread pudding I have ever had! Well worth the money!

Thank Leeayn

Built as an addition to the original hotel and later remodeled by San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres in 1912, the Colonial Room Restaurant reflects the prevailing neoclassical style of its time. Decades of elaborate balls and parties have been hosted in this room.Among the celebrities who have dined here are Presidents Grant and McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Colonial Room Restaurant's famous mango ice cream was served at both of President Clinton’s inaugurations. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Colonial Room Restaurant features a fabulous noontime brunch and traditional entrees such as prime rib au jus and lamb shank with linguini. Don't miss the popular Sunday brunch buffet, which tastes even better at a table in the garden courtyard.
