I had the opportunity to dine here a couple of times over my stay; once for a breakfast buffet, and a second time for a lunch buffet. All in all, this isn't a bad option. The breakfast buffet was generally good. I was a bit disappointed in the biscuits and gravy (the gravy was too buttery), but the breakfast meats... More

This is a quiet, traditional buffet restaurant at lunch that's popular with tourists and downtown workers. It's location in the venerable Menger Hotel next to the Alamo. You can buy a cold buffet -- soup, salad and sandwiches -- or, for a bit more, add hot entrees to the meal. The dessert table is to die for. This isn't the... More

The best service ever received in San Antonio. We had Sunday brunch. As usual unless you are a massive "eater" it was over stimulation on steroids. But we choose the brunch therefore we participated. The food was amazingly fresh and delicious. Service could not have been better. I'm glad we did the brunch so that I can write about it... More

My husband and I had lunch here with friends. We arrived too late for the buffet lunch. We had soup and half a sandwich. It was very good. The service was attentive. What impressed me most about the restaurant was the white tablecloth elegant ambiance. The restaurant is in an open airy room. I loved the architecture, vintage furnishings and... More

Reviews were mixed, but my husband loves these old classic dining rooms. Dining room was mostly empty and pretty dark, adding to my concern. But the dinner was GREAT. We shared the shrimp and crab cocktail, 10 large shrimp with lumps of crab, and remoulade and just right cocktail sauce. Also shared the smoked salmon app, another WOW. 8 ounces... More

I have never known the history of The Menger Hotel, so seeing and reading about the space was a real delight. The setting is really lovely and the brunch buffet was very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it. Then read pudding was so wonderful-- totally worth the value.

We had Sunday Brunch at the Colonial Room. It was a typical good layout with a variety of food to select from. The peel and eat shrimp were very good - large, fresh, and tasty. The atmosphere is very pleasing within the Historic Menger Hotel. We didn't see any juice set out for serving, and it was after the meal... More

Perhaps many hotel dining rooms either in USA or UK have had their day--and some, probably rightly so! But a classic still lives in The Menger Hotel's Colonial Room. I am happy to report that it is alive and well and I hope will be with us for some years to come. The ambience of the turn-of-last-century décor matched the... More

Description
Built as an addition to the original hotel and later remodeled by San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres in 1912, the Colonial Room Restaurant reflects the prevailing neoclassical style of its time. Decades of elaborate balls and parties have been hosted in this room.Among the celebrities who have dined here are Presidents Grant and McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Colonial Room Restaurant's famous mango ice cream was served at both of President Clinton’s inaugurations. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Colonial Room Restaurant features a fabulous noontime brunch and traditional entrees such as prime rib au jus and lamb shank with linguini. Don't miss the popular Sunday brunch buffet, which tastes even better at a table in the garden courtyard.
