I'm an 18 year regular and the owner/chef still surprises me/us all the time with outside of the box creations, besides the regular great Chinese and Vietnamese offerings. Kobe beef burgers, enchilada night, fried chicken Sunday, wild boar chili and it goes on and on....Not to mention this is one of the best kept secrets in San Antonio for us oenophiles. French, Italian, Spanish, huge selection of California reds, whites and more.
Small markup on great wines, incredible food and smiles make it a joy. Don't tell anyone though as then it will get too busy and spoil it! CheersMore
No surprises here: the restaurant bills itself as Chinese and Vietnamese, and the menu even includes Japanese options. The staff was very knowledgeable about each menu item so they gave very specific helpful information about ingredients when I said I am vegetarian (but not vegan)....The flavors were authentic, and even though service was kind of slow (I felt like I had been forgotten when several other tables placed orders and got their food before I was even attended to) my meal hit my craving spot. There also seems to be a good selection of wine and beer here and I could tell some of the locals must be loyal regulars.More
We arrived and we're seated promptly service was great they have quite the wine selection. We had some hors d'oeuvres and then I order the main course it was a wonderful meal service was great ,we did eat everything family style which was a great...experience just a little bit of everything a very good place to goMore
A very informal restaurant with authentic Vietnamese cuisine. I like that Vans does not Americanize their food and stays true. We enjoyed Pho Soup and Tofu which was fantastic. Tofu had great flavor and texture. Expect casual service and not fancy but nice staff and...good food.More
My boss elected this restaurant for lunch one day, and is she regretting it still. Only three of us were at lunch, on a Tuesday. The place looks more like a wine cellar, than a Vietnamese restaurant. The food, in my sole opinion, was less...than acceptable. Instead of using traditional items like shrimp, clams, mussels, and even pork strips, this place cheap's down the Pho noodles by using tilapia fish. We waiting for 40 minutes to get our lunch, while the waiter was a nice guy, there is only so many times we can hear "I'm sorry about the wait".
I would NOT recommend this place, aside from the above reasons, the price is not worth the food.More
I don't want to say it's the worst I've had but it's not that good. In fact, I am giving it a 3 just because the service was friendly. Other than that, I will not be returning here. Wish it could have been better.
