One of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio! I've eaten here numerous times, never disappointed. If weather is moderate, definitely eat on the patio. Also, I recommend the carne asada--they use filet mignon, and it's delicious. However their fish, and their other traditional dishes are wonderful too. It's in the Monte Vista/Laurel Heights neighborhoods, so take a ride around to... More

Food is a (favorable) off center of typical bean and cheese. Some excellent twists on traditional dishes, and some new takes. Try Sunday brunch - you won't be disappointed! They will only let you put one choice in the category reviews, but have been going here for years with family, friends, solo and as a couple for all meals of... More

Chose this restaurant because it was ranked #10 in the city and found it had been open since 1930. Presidents snd actors have eaten here. Beautiful surroundings, excellent service and delicious entrees. The history alone makes this a must stop dining experience.

From a well-traveled family, I discovered this place when I was stationed at Fort Sam in 1974. Can still taste the fresh tortillas when I think about it. Every family member visited and all agreed. Drove the distance from Killeen simply for a meal here when I was assigned to Fort Bliss for a few months!! And came back after... More

DISAPPOINTING and AVERAGE Mexican food at best in a town FULL of wonderful Mexican food choices. After reading the reviews and receiving a postcard in the mail for $15 off an entree in celebration of the restaurant's anniversary, we decided to give it a try. The only positive thing I can say about the experience was that the margaritas were... More

Was in San Antonio for a business meeting and decided to try La Fonda on Main. First time experience and, as many of the reviews say, it's a very interesting place. Food was good, service excellent and it is a must see place. The seating on the inside is rather cramped. The patio is very nice and would be great... More

To start, the queso Cesar was unbelievable then came the Chicken Diablo's...unreal....The flavor was absolutely incredible, the best I have ever had!! The came the fajitas, had the Trio and was blown away again. The oak flavor is... More

If there is a better Mexican restaurant in San Antonio, I have not found it yet, and I have lived here for almost 25 years.

Visiting family and we stopped for lunch. Very pleased with the decor, menu options and can't say enough about the friendly staff. We shared a special and an appetizer and it was definitely enough. I can't say enough about the amazing staff.

Located just a few minutes from downtown in architecturally rich Monte Vista, La Fonda on Main is the oldest Mexican food restaurant in San Antonio. La Fonda serves both the best of Tex-Mex cuisine as well as authentic dishes of interior Mexico in a fun and casual setting with beautiful patio dining. Open daily serving lunch and dinner as well as a memorable Sunday brunch menu, we offer a full bar with a wide variety of liquor, beer and wine. Our famous margaritas are made with hand-squeezed limes and your choice of a large selection of tequilas.
