About
The Little Rhein Steak House is housed in the Bombach House in historic La Villita. The Coahuiltecan Indians founded a settlement here in the 1500s, and in the early 18th century Spanish soldiers and Canary Islanders established a village on the site. The Mexican General Santa Anna encamped here during the battle of the Alamo. During the 19th century, German immigrants designated this area as the Little Rhein district, hence the name Little Rhein Steak House. In 1847, Otto Bombach, a carpenter, built the first two-story structure here for his family. The Bombach House was thereafter utilized as an early Texas home, a boarding house, a grocery store and bar, a private school, and a hangout for

We went here tonight for my husband’s birthday dinner. We had a perfect seat on the balcony - perfect service - perfect food! What more could you ask for? Oh a free dessert?...yes we got that too!

My friend and I happened upon this restaurant when we were visiting the La Villita historic site in San Antonio, Texas. The restaurant is very small but we were there early enough to get a table without having a reservation. The atmosphere is wonderful: creamy...walls, dark wood and soft light. We felt a tad underdressed compared to other diners, but the owner seated us herself and made us feel very welcome. Both my friend and I ordered the Scottish salmon but I asked if they could make mine without crab, due to an allergy. Our waiter, John, not only ensured the dish was made correctly but he discussed with the chef a change to the sauce the salmon was cooked in to ensure I would have no issues. What's more, he kept me apprised during each step in the process to make sure all was to my liking. It was absolutely to my liking! We also had the baked goat cheese appetizer and splurged on dessert, cheesecake for me and my friend had the creme brulee. Everything tasted heavenly! Highly recommend this restaurant for the food, the service and for an elegant atmosphere where all are welcome.More

Very nice place. We had the ribeye, best steak I have had in restaurant in a long time. Also get the baked potato, they bring tray with butter, sour cream and bacon to dress the potato 👍

The tables overlooking the river walk are lovely and offer a great setting. The service is very good and prices reasonable for this type of restaurant. On the other hand the food is on the average side. We had steaks and fish. Both were good...and tasty but not special.More

I was excited to go here as I wanted to go the last time we were in town. This is located at the end of the tourist section of the river walk. We sat outside which was very nice and romantic. Our server was excellent,...very informative and attentive. We had a margarita which was average, nothing special or terrible. The food was the same I had the filet and shrimp, the filet was cooked perfect but had no flavor or seasoning. The shrimp also cooked well just not alot of flavor and the Jalapeño twice baked potato....the same everything was just Bland...I don't want to have to use a salt shaker, but I did. Prices are on the higher side but in comparison to other river walk restaurants. I don't think I would go back as I was not impressed with the food, while everything was cooked well, there was just not highlights of flavor everything was one note.More

This is a wonderful restaurant with magnificent food. !! We had the filet and the salmon and both were absolutely perfect. The building appears to be very old and is interesting in an of itself. Wine list is very good you can find both high...dollar and more affordable bottles. We got a mid range bottle from Oregon and it was so tasty we ordered another bottle for the table. Salads are good too. Baked potatoes are excellent. Asparagus is delicious as well. Creme brûlée was perfect. Waitstaff is superior in all aspects Go here get in early if possible Outdoor dining available alsoMore
