This is not the 1st time my wife and I have tried to have a decent dinner at the bar. First of all, there seems to be only 4 cushioned chairs that have backs. The rest of them are useless, miserably uncomfortable stools. Who made...that idiotic business decision? Second, while the food was quite good, the SERVICE WAS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Without doubt, the bartender has got to be the worst in this area. Totally inattentive. We had to ask for everything. She spent most of her time gabbing with staff. Third, I ordered the most expensive Cabernet on the menu and twice she poured a disgusting lousy glass of wine. As we were leaving the couple next to us were served glasses filled to the top. Huh? Then, as we walked out the door another diner came up to me and agreed the service "sucked". We will not return. Off our list. DONE!More

Thank you for taking the time to reach out and give us feedback. I am truly sorry for the poor experience on you last trip. That is not at all how we do things and I am truly sorry you experienced that. I would...More
We lived in Tucson 1975-84. El Charro downtown was a go to for authentic food. We recently returned to Tucson for a visit. We ate carne seca at four restaurants around town. El Charro by far was the most disappointing and inferior. The service was...poor, margaritas were poor, the bean and rice were poor, the carne seco tacos had store bought shells, the burro was ok as was the cheese crisp, all this for a very expensive price.More
If I could give this restaurant 10 stars I would. We absolutely loved every morsel we ordered. Not being from this area but I am from AZ, so I know good Mexican fare. The cheese crisp was our least favorite but it worked well as...a base for the chicken fajita lettuce cups that we also ordered as an appetizer when we ran out of lettuce. The fajita lettuce cups were absolutely the most interesting Mexican food dish I have ever eaten. Can’t wait to try and make this at home! We also ordered the grilled chicken chimichanga - it was absolutely perfect from the grilled chicken, caramelized onions and crispy tortilla. It was more like eating a hand pie. So GOOD! We shared all of this and my goodness what a lot of food! If we were in town longer, we would definitely go again!! I recommend this place highly! The service was excellent as well.More
It is nothing to wait 20 minutes before your server arrives at your table. This is very common. The waiter I recently had didn't come back for the next 20 minutes. Not enough staff. Terrible service.
The cheese crisps are no longer "yellow" cheese. They...are made with tasteless white cheese and you are not able to order the original ones any more.
you have to make reservations a day ahead of time now or you can't get in. this place has gone downhill!!More
The food was flavorful and plentiful. Dad enjoyed his plant-based options: an appetizer of guac-stuffed mushrooms and a hemp tamale entree. Mom's and my fajitas were some of the best we have ever eaten, packed with meat. In fact, Mom's contained slices of an entire...sizzling steak. Several folks were there just to buy jars of their salsa. Unfortunately, we were never served the complimentary chips and salsa, so I can't attest personally to how good it is.More
This is a very solid choice if you like good Mexican food. Free chips and salsa were a great start! We especially liked the enchiladas and the CS Relleno. Also, great margarita options like the “Horny Cucumber”, the Elegante, and the 1922. Beer choices were...good and the house Cabernet was better than expected for only $7 a glass! I love extra spicy hot sauce but was disappointed that the Tapitio came in small individual packets! Maybe we blame that one on COVID, but I did not like that.
