Govinda's is one of the best, most special restaurants I've ever visited anywhere! The atmosphere is peaceful, beautiful, and blissful. The food is amazing - a great, rotating variety of vegan/vegetarian dishes to impress everyone - omnivores will love it, too! The food is served...buffet-style and is prepared with a lot of love. This is reflected in the delicious taste and how nourishing it is. And definitely try the desserts at the buffet and in the display case - they are fantastic, too! The staff is very kind and helpful. The restaurant also features a beautiful patio (sometimes with live music), a lovely meditation garden/koi pond, exotic birds, and a great Indian boutique. Govinda's is my top choice for restaurants in Tucson - it is certain to wow out-of-town guests, too.More
I'm no longer a vegan, or even vegetarian, but a trip to town would be lacking without visiting for a meal here. I recommend eating outdoors on the delightful patio under the perfect Arizona sky.
In June I wrote that, after eating here 20 years and loving it every time, I was unhappy and that I'd try again. Since then I had a nice lunch. But dinner last night was mostly bland and brown. However, I ate soon after opening...time -- and there were already a number of other people. Whether they felt that the food seemed different or not, they came. So maybe I'm too choosey. But whatever... this will be my last solo visit where I come for the food. (I'm a big fan of Salad and Go; I'll get my veggie fix there.) If friends want to go, though, I'll come for the peaceful surroundings and for food that is still (I'm sure) healthy.More
In 20+ years eating at Govinda's, I've never had a meal I didn't love... until today. I had read that their long-time cooks -- who'd been here all of that time -- will leave or have left (retired?). I love food with intense, interesting flavors....Food here has always been that way. At least one of my friends didn't like it because it was too "spicy" for her taste. She might be happy here now. Lunch had simple flavors. Some was downright bland: plain pasta with no sauce, for instance, and whipped potatoes that tasted a bit "off." I'll wait a couple of months and come back. Maybe the new cooks are just finding their feet. If not, I hope Govinda's will bring back some of the old recipes that I've enjoyed so much.More
Being Indian, I really like the food and the environment. Very authentic Indian food. The best time to visit is for dinner and dining outside.
Govinda's use be a four star restaurant and everyone went there that was vegetarian and that standard has fallen there's something lacking in the taste,,love,
My friend from Tucson took me here and I am so glad she did: the food is amazing and the people who run the place are so kind and hospitable. The dining room is small: we shared a table with a really nice guy that...we didn't know. It was all good! I cannot recommend Govinda's enough.More
I don't like writing this review but it's truthful and my experience. I went to Govindas on Thanksgiving for the first time, since it had read good reviews and was excited to enjoy a vegetarian meal on this special holiday. They were serving until 7:00...p.m., I think. It was more expensive than normal because of the holiday, which was fine and expected, but I was shocked to learn when I got up to the Buffet, after a long line, that they were out of the faux turkey and the vegan pumpkin pie. This was at 4:45 p.m. over 2 hours before they were to stop serving food. Someone else in the line was also shocked and inquired with one of the women, who was extremely rude, and who offered no apology or explanation but instead simply said abruptly and harshly, "we're out!" The food that I did have was good, however, I will never return to this place because of the ignorance of charging $18.00 for a dinner buffet when they were out of the two main dishes, and because of the rude woman, who was really beyond the pale. Left a very bad impression on me.More
Today (11/23/2019) the restaurant re-opened after fire spread from a business next door to some parts of Govinda's earlier this year. The prices are the same. The food on the lunch buffet seemed even tastier (though maybe I just missed it...). They've done some remodeling...in the main dining room, adding tables and stools along the walls where there used to be tables for two. The big outdoor patio has a small stage set up; a musician performed there today.More
A fire at the business next door, at the start of July 2019, burned some of the buildings near the dining room. We were lucky to eat there a week before the fire... it was delicious, as usual. They now have three all-vegan days: Wednesday...thru Friday. I'm looking forward to the re-opening.More
Just made it in time. They close early for lunch. Great vegetarian food, beautiful garden, very peaceful surroundings, and a boutique, too.
The buffet was delicious with lots of variety including full salad bar, soups, several mains and dessert! We ate inside in a cozy space and there is also a nice patio!!
Govinda’s is a real local Tucson gem serving delicious vegan meals. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. The outside grounds are beautiful. There are vegan entrees and sides that are wonderfully prepared and seasoned. It also has an interesting gift shop.
Wonderful outdoor seating with water feature, tables with umbrellas and live music which isn't overpowering. Delicious healthy food, amazing cashew salad dressing...crumb cake... Yogurt with fresh fruit and scrambled egg mix. Love this place and the koi pond in the back of building.
