I’ve come here with friends a few times and the server that usually works is super nice and the food is great. The hummus, tabouli, chicken shawarma plate are my favorites. Can’t get enough of my Mediterranean recently and I’m glad my friend randomly brought...me here one day. I see this becoming a local favorite.More
I have been to the Caravan store many times and since I had some extra time, I decided to try the Grill next door. It was outstanding!! The falafel was green inside, which tells you that it's made from fresh parsley and not from a...mix or other quick method. The hummus was smooth, tasty, and plentiful. I was also completely satisfied with the salad on the side... crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, tons of Persian cucumbers, and a perfectly herbed dressing. I would have licked the plate, but was able to clean it well with the abundant pita bread provided. I will definitely be back!!More
We stopped for lunch. The restaurant has one menu, which is used for both lunch and dinner. We ordered a small babaganoush as an appetizer. It was well prepared and a very ample serving. We we're glad we had not ordered a large serving. This...should have prepared us for our main courses. My wife had the lamb shawarma plate and I had the beef shawarma plate. Both servings, with their accompanying cooked vegetable medley, rice, hummus, and salad were very large. I also had a couple of falafel, which were obviously freshly fried to order. Everything tasted great. The only slight negative is that the beef was a little chewy, but I have had the same in restaurants in the Middle East. The food was prepared and served quickly, so this restaurant would be good for lunch.
The restaurant is simple and quite small, but service and the food overcome any of that.More
I came across this place through a review written in the Tucson Weekly. I was in town for a few days and was looking for something besides southwest food to eat. It wasn’t too out of the way, but easy to miss. Located next to...the caravan market, which is a purveyor of import foods, this little restaurant packs in some awesome food. Order at the counter, choose indoor or outdoor seating. I chose a chicken shawarma plate and my companion had the lamb. The plate comes with rice, hummus, a bit of green salad with a vinaigrette, cooked vegetables, and fresh flat bread. They have bottles of drinks for purchase too. The food was freshly prepared, the bread was warm, the hummus not overpowering, the rice was perfect and my chicken, so good. Seasoned and grilled. We also had a side of grape leaves, which were quality too (don’t know if they are made on the premise or from a jar, but were of a high quality). So much food for such a good price. Couldn’t help ourselves and selected a few pastries to take home. The baklava fingers were light and not too syrupy, and made with walnuts and honey the way I’m used to. We also selected kataifi, semolina cake, and a pistachio roll. Everything was good. Oh and we picked up a bag of homemade fresh bread too. If you can tell by how much we bought, it’s worth it. Take the chance and go to this place. It’s so worth it!More
Love Caravan Grill, although the seating is limited. We sat outside. It was rush hour and several messy people had just left. Our table was cleaned quickly and our order was served.
Enjoyed the Turkish coffee served in traditional carafes. It is also fun to...go next door to the store to buy some Middle Eastern dates, and other delicacies.More
