There is a parking lot for Charro Steak and del rey that is next to the del rey section of the restaurant. We did not realize this but were able to find parking about three blocks away. The service was accommodating, but I did find that our server kept trying to upsell apps and drinks and desserts. I didn't think that was necessary. They brought us chips right away but we had to wait for the salsa because there were no clean bowls. We waited about 15 minutes for the salsa--that doesn't make sense at a restaurant of this caliber. My husband and I split a house salad and the halves were very generous. We got the salad fairly quickly, but we were there an hour before we saw our entree. That was a long time considering that the restaurant was not full. We split a rib eye which comes with a few spoonfuls of beans and tortillas. We ordered the mashed potatoes as a side. The beef was delicious. The sides were fine. The restaurant is very loud, so be prepared. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't outstanding.

They'd just received a local top 10 rating...buzzing even at 530. It is two seperate restaurants with 2 dif vibes steps from each other, same menu.
Service was attentive without being overbearing. Steak prices are some of the highest in Tucson. Sorry to say the quality of my ribeye was a 3 out of 5, more gristled than marbled. Sides were tasty. There are menu options besides steaks at lower prices, including burgers.

My basic rule at a restaurant is I always try to order something I haven't had before. And I have never had a "lobster tamalada" before. At Charro Steak & del Rey they start with a 2 1/2 pound Maine lobster, remove the meat from the body while leaving the tail and claws intact. Then roll the body meat in masa (corn meal) creating a dense tamale. Put that back in the body, bake it and serve it with red and green Christmas style sauce. the service was impeccable. The ambience was sparse, but I think that's what they're going for. This was epic, the company was damn fine too. We are at the #AFPAZ25 State Conference hosted by AFP Southern Arizona in Tucson.

Went to Charro Steak Del Ray for my anniversary dinner. Expected a fantastic dinner based on the prices and some of the reviews, but I should have paid attention to some of the other reviews here. The experience was terrible!
We ordered the Seafood tower and the butter sauce that is supposed to be hot to dip the seafood in was ice cold. It took so long for our waiter to take care of getting the sauce heated that the steaks were already coming out so we had no time to eat the over $100 tower.
Our Dinner was just as bad an experience as my steak came to the table ice cold and my girlfriend’s was so over salted that it was inedible. Anniversary dinner was over and we went home disappointed and upset that we’d chosen Charro Steak Delmar.
You would expect better from a higher priced restaurant!

This was a poor experience. It started badly when we turned up on time for our reservation and were informed by the hostess that they were moving us from the restaurant to the cafe a few doors down the street. She assured us that it was the same experience but, after walking to it with her, it clearly was not. We asked to be seated in the restaurant, as per our reservation, and we all walked back to the original location, somewhat awkwardly.
We got seated and our server greeted us with a somewhat robotic spiel about the restaurant and its credentials. We ordered a bone-in strip, a couple of sides and a ahi ceviche. The sides (asparagus and creamed corn) were fine but the ceviche areas served in a martini glass, drowned in a creamy sauce (!) and very difficult to navigate. The steak was ordered medium rare and came lightly seared and absolutely rare. Stone cold red center. Nowhere near medium rare. By this time we were minded to finish our dinner and leave, so I ate the steak - still edible but very rare.
This place had the feeling of a restaurant that is trading on former glories and is not very focused on the customer, either front of house or in the kitchen…

Years ago we visited El Charro's Steakhouse for the first time. Everything about the meal was excellent. About 9 months, we returned and the meal we got was so so. We decided to try again yesterday. After paying $125 plus $25 tip, we left feeling we were just treated to a very sub-par meal. My filet looked like it came from roadkill. My wife's salmon was undercooked, fatty and slimey. My chocolate martini was just a brown drink: vodka, chocolate liquor with no cream and no extras for the presentation. We won't return. One good thing: Anthony is a very pleasant, professional waiter.

Sadly disappointed... thought I was in a Sizzler restaurant! After reading the reviews for this place my family and I decided this would be the one fine dining meal of our trip to Tucson. Things started to go downhill at the get go upon entering Charro Steak & Del Rey. The hostess had a snooty attitude like she was too good for us. She looked put out when we told her that we didn't have a reservation... the restaurant was nearly empty! The server started off great with his introduction and demeaner, but that too fell by the wayside quickly. He would walk by numerous times and not refill my iced tea. (I always drink a lot during meals and my biggest indicator of a server's performance is not letting my glass get empty). I'll usually let a server pass by once without noticing. I'll then put my glass near the edge of the table that is closest to where they walk. If after the third pass and I have to ask for a refill then I'm over it. If I have to continually ask every time my glass is empty then the tip goes down dramatically. On the second refill he added so much ice that I couldn't take more than two drinks before it was empty! Ok, enough about the drink... appetizers haven't even been ordered yet. lol They excelled in this course. It was happy hour (apps half off) so we ordered Cast Iron Mushrooms and Prickly Pear Glazed Albondigas (a type of meatball). They were amazing. The main course was a fail. There wasn't anything that had me wanting to send anything back to the kitchen, but the sides were bland and not very appetizing. I had the filet and again, thought I was in a Sizzler (for those of you that are old enough to remember!) and not a fine dining establishment. My wife had the "Surf & Turf" Enchiladas Banderas and thought the lobster enchilada was borderline bad as it had a very weird, almost sour taste. The other two were not even worth mentioning. We didn't stick around for desert. Sorry, but we will not be visiting Charro Steak & Del Rey again!

The evening started well with a tasty wedge salad. But the 14 ounce ribeye was a disaster. Half of it was inedible because of gristle. The edible half was tasty and cooked perfectly, but for $50, I deserved an entirely delicious steak. Oh, and the side of asparagus was over cooked and tasteless. all in all, a disappointing evening. We went out to dinner seven nights in Tucson, and this was the worst of the group.

We had a table of six adults for dinner. We’d been here two times previously while visiting Tucson – both were wonderful experiences – great food and wonderful professional service. The only complaint on the second visit was the electric violin player who played at a loud volume. Unfortunately, we were seated close to this noisy Violinist and were unable to chat because of the volume. We ordered 4-Ribeyes steaks all medium rare and Broadway salads. The salads were as good as before but half the size. The Ribeye steaks came cooked from medium well to rare, all were charred, and were tough. The waiter didn’t seem familiar with the wines or the menu. He brought out one little skillet of el charro frijoles for the four steaks and no tortillas. We asked where the rest were (Menu: mesquite fired steaks served with frijoles charros & choice of tortilla) and our server said “Oh these are free, so we usually have one per table. He eventually brough out the other three. The enchiladas and Hamburger were fine. We asked if LOUD violin could be turned down, and were told ‘no.’ Finally, 20-minutes before we left, the Violinist took a break, and we were able to talk to each other. This is already a fairly noisy restaurant without the electric violin music. Hopefully, they will make some changes in food quality and service.

Love it,,and we just did dinner again last Saturday night. The queso fundito with lobster was great, as were the brussel sprouts, as were the martinis. We both got steaks and wanted pink in the middle so were instructed to say med/well. They came out a bit too cooked, so while we never send back a steak, we did this time. The server was awesome about it and we got two new amazing steaks in short order,,,,and two free deserts for the situation. Very classy! VictorB
Also, parking was a challenge but there is a gem of a small lot right next door for $6 !

Place opens at 3:00. We were in area right about that time so we stopped in for apps and drinks. We were greeted and seated promptly.
Drinks were good but timely. The happy hour we noticed has been changed to $2 off wines and wells as well as their non-seafood apps. All these used to be half off. Oh, and the Charro burger is no longer half price either: $5 off.
The escargot at $15 (6) was ok but they could’ve used more garlic butter. The albondigas were very tasty. But when the “Cast Iron” mushrooms hit the table they were cold. Refrigerator cold. In a cold cast iron pan. Who doesn’t notice that?Well we did and sent them back. No apology or explanation given. Here they come back in a few.....cold.
More lukewarm this time like they had attempted to warm them in an oven that was just turned on. Needless to say we never had the mushrooms and we left unsatisfied. This was our first time to Charro’s and we had gone to check it out for a future dinner. Sadly we’ll probably never make it back.

Excellent Steak , one of the best I have ever had. Cooked perfectly on Mesquite Wood. The side dishes were memorial, especially the Potatoes. The resturant was full on a Thursday night with lots of repeat customers. Inspite of the crowd, the service was excellent. Anthony made me feel like family. The meal was prepared on a very short time, again inspite of the crowed condition. I will definitely be back and will tell all my family and friends. Thanks for a great evening!

Our waiter Chris was very nice. Now for the important part...the food. I got the carne asada steak , it was good flavor, the beans that come with it were very bland. My husband ordered the Trout, when it came out we knew it wasn't trout, it was salmon. We told our waiter and the manager came over and explained that on the box it read " Ocean Trout" but obviously it was salmon so he said he would adjust our bill.
He made an adjustment of 8 dollars, guess it was better than nothing. The salmon was very good just not what he wanted. I would think a chef would know the difference but at any rate it was good.
The corn was good, and the Caesar salad was good. We both had Silver Cadillac drinks, they were good . Overall I'd not make another trip to this restaurant for the price was not worth it

This is an amazing place for fantastic food in an urban chic setting. We are on the Dey Rey side (more upscale) vs the Charro side (more casual), but it’s the exact same menu and prices.
The oyster bar was too tempting and they had several options. An order was 3 oysters and you could “mix and match”. I wanted 1 order : 2 of the Kumiai and 1 North Point…but the waiter brought me 6 which was not what I orders and too many for me, but I did not have the heart to send them back after I was served, but I was not that happy about it. The Charred wedge salad was huge (split that one) and it was superb. The steak was perfectly done and the Duroc bone-in poet porterhouse was simply amazing (Especially with the spicy topping). Good wine and beer options (do the Hayes Valley cab) and the draft Dragoon IPA. The service was a bit slow and it too a long tone to get the oysters and then a big gap in time to get the salad, and the. The entrees came out a few minutes after the sales was served, so the “pacing” was pretty messed up. The food was a “5”, but the issues noted above made the visit a “4”.
Parking on a Sat night is tough as well. We did love it though and will be back and if they can address the points above I will give this gem a “5” next time.

Loved the atmosphere but honestly this place was a hit and a miss. Good cocktails, guac, and ceviche app, but the seafood tower was a big loser, especially for the $120 price. The “tower” was small portions of crab and lobster and over salted oyster shooters. Overall it was a big disappointment.
The rib steaks and the chicken entree were good, the trout could have been amazing but it was so salty I could only eat a few bites. The ahi tostada bowl was good but was mostly cabbage and not much ahi or chips so we were left with a big bowl of cabbage at the end. Great sides of Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts and potatoes. We had the dessert combo and the chocolate cake was great, the flan good but the Nutella tamale was dry and really bad.
Service was slow, and we waited for long periods in between requests for chips or drinks. Although out server was really pleasant he was not too attentive. 6 adults, 3 kids $700 and we had it all. What was good was really good, but what wasn’t was not worthy of the price. Probably won’t go back.
