We celebrated my son’s wedding rehearsal dinner at Charro Steak last weekend. I received many compliments from the guests on the amazing food and the venue. Due to the pandemic, we were concerned about keeping physical distancing amongst our guests and other patrons of the...restaurant. After speaking with Gary about this, he set up our party in the adjoining Del Ray room which we had exclusively for our dinner. The setup was perfect and very much appreciated. The staff and service that evening was exceptional. We had a great evening and Charro Steak knocked it out of the park. Thanks for everything!!More

Most of Tucson is still shut down so we were excited to find that El Charro Cafe was open. There was no seating available but we were able to sit at the bar. The menu is not your standard Tex/Mex menu. The dishes are quite...unique. My son ordered the chicken dish and he said it was delicious-the best chicken he has ever tasted. My husband ordered the hamburger and he said it was the BEST burger he has ever eaten! I had the vegan tamales which I had never had before. They were great. The chef came out to the bar to chat and told us that he also acts as the butcher. My husband commented on the burger and he said it was due to careful cutting of the finest cuts. I am a vegeterian so lost on me but my husband was delighted. Everyone was really nice too. Great spot.More

My first night in Tucson started later than planned and the innkeeper recommended Charro Steak. The server was very helpful, and steered me to a potato dish side which was quite exceptional as well as some good craft brews. The dish was sort of like...scalloped potatoes with a SW tilt. The steak was done to perfection from end to end. I was visiting Tucson to look into possible relocation there, and the server was a good source of local info and advice as well.More

Downtown Steak House by El Charro Restaurants. Little pricy but was very good. Had the all natural mesquite grilled Bison Strip Steak with crispy fries and flour tortillas. Turns out it came with charro beans -- If I have known that, I would have skipped...the fries. It was way too food for 1 person. Full Bar.More

My wife and I enjoyed a great dinner at Charro Steak. The menu offers several choices of steak and we decided to split the 14 oz rib eye cooked medium rare. We also ordered the meatball appetizer to start and a couple of sides which...are listed separately on the menu. Drinks arrived and were very well prepared. We enjoyed the drinks while sampling the complimentary chips and salsa. Very good! The meatballs were a good start. Moist and meaty in a tasty sauce. They were quickly consumed and were just the right start. The steak arrived and we cut it to plate the meat for each of us. It was right on medium rare. The outside had a bit of that wonderful char. The taste was delicious but maybe a bit under seasoned. The side dishes were also quite good. The cream corn was sweet and creamy. The beans that come with the steak were crazy good. The steak also came with a side of beans that we polished off with no problem. Service was very good, quick and friendly. We will not hesitate to return. I will note that parking can be difficult so plan acorringly.More

My husband and I went on a recommendation of a few local people. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Parking on the street is difficult but there is a parking garage that's part of the Marriott across the street with very affordable...rates...$5 for 2 hours was all we needed. So, after being given the customary chips and salsa verde dip we checked out the menu. One of the men, (Maybe manager?) came over and explained where the beef comes from and how it's taken care of...sounds like it's going to knock our socks off. We decided on the Charrasco for 2. Basically a sampler of different steak, chicken and some chorizo. Well, they were out of it. Just seemed strange. They had the same cuts of steak and chicken individually...maybe they were just out of the chorizo, but this was 7:00 on Saturday. Not like it was the end of the evening and take what's left kind of thing. Anyway, my husband ordered the Chef Cut Ribeye and I ordered the Carne Asada (skirt steak) with an add on of the grilled Jumbo Shrimp. We ordered Tableside Guac, it was very good. Not much to say about guac. The steaks come out, minus the shrimp. The waiter said they forgot to make it. My husband enjoyed his ribeye, couldn't finish it. I think it's like 20 ounces or some ridiculous amount. My Carne Asada was good. But nothing really wowed me. I was expecting some great flavors from the meat that just wasn't there. The shrimp finally came out and I enjoyed that more than the steak. We had a side of the corn and the potatoes. We skipped dessert and coffee. My husband always likes espresso and their machine wasn't working I think he said. I don't think we'd return.More

I am not a huge fan of Mexican food only because I don’t eat cilantro and I don’t like spicy food. And I am not a huge steak fan. But I was visiting with a large group of people and this is what they chose....We were seated at a long table at one end of the front room so it was fairly private. The waiter (I wish I knew his name) told us he would make fresh guacamole table-side. I raised my hand to tell him about the cilantros problem. But it wasn’t a problem for him. He made a special non-cilantro guacamole just for me. And I ate the whole large bowl! Delicious! I didn’t even bother with the chips after the first few bites. Just picked up my spoon and ate it. Our host ordered some appetizers and side dishes for us to share. But we had to choose our own main course. I asked the same waiter about the ahi tostada (remember- not a huge steak fan). He looked at me like I was crazy. “We are famous -world wide- for our steak!” I got his point. He recommended I have the fillet (7 oz - the smallest cut of beef on the menu), just plain with no rub. And so I did. And let me tell you, that was the MOST tender and delicious piece of meat I have ever had. Of all the sides, my favorite was the corn. Don’t miss it. So, although Mexican food and steak would not have been my first choice, I am so glad I got to eat here.More

We visited here for dinner with a couple who live in Tucson and had a great experience. Service was great, from greeters to bartenders to our server - all friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Food was very good. Several of us had the ribeye, which was...tender and flavorful - and huge!. Sides were outstanding, served family style. Would definitely go back next time we're in town.More
