I was being a tourist in the Olde Town area and desperately wanted to sit and enjoy myself. I found wonderful live music played by John Martinez, a classically trained musician who can really cast a spell. A notice in the front says service may...be slower than usual because of lack of staff, which I find reasonable, and I found no issues. I found the staff attentive and helpful and most of all, kind. I enjoyed two prickly pear margaritas and some delicious street tacos which hit the spot. Above all, I enjoyed the atmosphere. Yes, it's facing a parking lot, but you wont find anything comparable on the main street. After the performance, the musician greeted and welcomed every single table. I really appreciate that and really enjoyed my visit.More

About 6 months ago the NM Health Dept revoked this restaurant's health permit, saying management refused to cooperate with food safety inspectors. As a result of continued refusal to follow the law, a judge has ordered their utilities to be discontinued. At the same time,...they have refused to follow the NM State mandate to wear masks.More

This place has been operating without a food permit for months now. I guess they also refused to let the health inspectors in, if that tells you anything at all. With blatant disregard for safety practices during a pandemic and obviously having something to hide...from health inspectors, I would skip this if you have any care for your wellbeing.More

The restaurant was practically empty, but still waitstaff did not acknowledge us. After 15 minutes we got up and just left. They didn’t care. My impression is that the good reviews are fake. There are many good choices for food in the area, this isn’t...one of them. On top of that, the owner has a blatant disregard for health practices. So, all in all they appear to disregard the needs of customers.More

This restaurant does not use Covid safe practices and actually does not have a current health permit. Yesterday, a judge ordered them to cease operations. I’m betting they don’t.

This restaurant has always had a reputation for surly service in the Duke City, and it offers a Disneyfied version of "southwestern food." (We ought to know; we're here in the southwest.) Its saving grace was its good selection of local beers on tap. There...are much, much better places in Old Town -- Seasons Grill and Antiquity, or for New Mexican cuisine, even Duran's Central Pharmacy or La Hacienda. Today KOB-News reported that this the Backstreet Grill has been operating without a restaurant license for months on end, which is unsurprising. Moreover, the staff refuses to mask up or follow other Covid protocols from the state. When called out on this behavior, the owner -- who is apparently unfamiliar with the maxim "the customer is always right" -- belittles his customers and reacts in an aggressive, antagonistic way. This is not who we are in Albuquerque.More

So disappointing to meet the server that has the bad reputation with her customers. She did a racism and antic clown face when we got into the room and said hi to her. What is more hilarious is that she even dare not to do...it face to face but can only do it when I turned back to her. After that, when we were already sat and waiting for her menu, she just go straight away and serve the two ladies just came to the front door and totally ignored us. Therefore, If you don’t want the racism bothers your happy memory in NM, please take a second thought to go into this restaurant.More

My sister took my husband to this restaurant for lunch as it is supposed to be one of the best in Albuquerque--Her review: My sister and her husband came to visit so while exploring Old Town we decided to have lunch here. They have been...voted as of Albuquerque's best. I ended up being embarrassed in front of my out of town guests. Our waitress was rude, service was slow(45 mins to get our food) we as asked 3 times what holdup was, no answer. When we finally got our food it wasn't as we had ordered. My burger was so over cooked it was had to chew. Then when we mentioned the balloon man for a 10%discount, well Miss Rude Waitress had a fit. The manager came out with some story about a catering party. I asked why we weren't told that up front, crickets. The best service we got was from the hostess who kept our glasses full and brought us complimentary chips and salsa. And yes our tip reflected the service we didn't get. I will never go here again. I will never recommend this place. I agree with this review 150%. It was awful. My sister told me the manager emailed her and lied...lied...lied. He tried to say he threw us out before we ate. Maybe he was to busy to remember. He did not, he came over after we had to scream across the restaurant to get our check only to give us his excuses for the bad service and the reason for the rudness of our server. AFTER we attempted to eat the food we were served. My husband worked in the restaurant business and knows how things should be run and boy did he have a few things to say. Next time we visit Albuquerque, I will suggest McDonalds before we eat at this place again.More

Five stars might be overkill only because we didn't eat an actual meal, just chips, salsa and guacamole. We also had beer and Margaritas. But that was our experience and it was excellent. Our waitress Jessie was awesome. She reminds us of Dani on American...Pickers. She said she's been told that many times and even Googled Dani. The chips were excellent. Both blue and yellow and they had sea salt on them so were nice and salty. I never understand why places served unsalted chips. I found the guacamole to be a little bland for my taste but my husband was very happy with it because he found the salsa to be a little too spicy for his taste. I LOVED the salsa. It was spicy but also flavorful. Sometimes, things are so spicy you can't taste the flavor. This salsa was perfect, I thought. I wanted to try a Prickly Pear Margarita but they haven't been able to buy Prickly Pear for a while; another victim of the supply chain challenges we saw during the pandemic. Jessie recommended the Jalapeno Blood Orange Margarita instead. It was very good; definitely found the jalepeno as I neared the bottom of the glass. I followed that with the house margarita. My husband was pleased to see Modelo Negra on the menu. All three beers were very cold. No indoor seating while we were there, but plenty of shade. I used the restroom before we left and it was adequately clean. We arrived a bit early but el jefe said they would wait on us if we were willing to sit outside on the patio. Service was great.More

Since I cannot respond to the management counter to my review I will answer this way. In New Mexico when I saw a Navajo Taco on the menu and ordered it with Green Chile I figured I was getting a New Mexico Dish. It was not even close to what I expected. The dish I received had no flavor and was more like a tasteless taco dish. My mistake but I was misled by the menu. The grilled cheese was a complete waste as well as it was a total grease sandwich. The Calamari was totally cooked to a crisp and like eating burnt whatever and I don't remember the other dish but you can see my issues. Then to top of the experience a server that was totally cocky did nothing more than take the order and never removed the dishes and maybe now you know why we won't be back. Your cuisine is your choice and that's no issue with me. Just like my choice is to never come back. So my question is is there valet parking?
