This was our first time and its was fantastic! The waitress/server named "Staci" was both attentive and checked on our drinks, regularly, and asked us if we needed additional food or drinks. She was polite and always smiled, which was pleasant and sincere. The food was well portioned and tasty but not overly spiced or flavored with sweetners or greasy flavorings. The best part for us was the sushi and it was very fresh and not frozen like other cheaper places trying to save money. The appetizers were plentiful and had a wide variety. The teppan was cooked to "our" perfection and not overly salted/seasoned. We like the natural taste of the scallops and fillet and not for the seasoning. We asked for the manager's name to give compliments on the service and food, but Staci said, not needed since we enjoy seeing everyone happy. Of course, we left her a nice sized "Tip" that matched her humbleness. Overall, we are pleased most importantly by the freshness of the sushi/sashimi, the wide variety of appetizers, and teppan selections. Best part was the price was much less than we thought. This is our newest "go to" place for Japanese cuisine! And don't forget to ask for Staci for the best smile! Usually, my wife doesn't like to comment on female waitresses but she agreed on this one.

I can’t say the food was good just average. Server was not on top tonight. Forgot several things. We had to wait to get sauces, refills . Maybe a different day would improve this review

Was seated fairly quickly, but service at teppan grill took 0ver 40 minutes before cooking started. Ordered steak teriyaki cooked medium. It was a very tough, stringy cut of meat that was served well-done by the cook at the grill. Not appetizing at all. Lots of rice and noodles were given and flavor was good. Husband ordered Teriyaki chicken breast. Meat was also overcooked and dry so much that he suggested we not even take our leftovers home. Teppan grill "show" was fine- nothing new but he did fling broccoli into people's mouths at the table and squirted Saki in a guy's mouth from the bottle. If it was just the food, I'd say 2.5 stars. Atmosphere was decent and clean with good ambiance.

Arrived just after 5pm, no one waiting in line, could have been seated right away at the hibachi, but we wanted sushi. Dining side only had three tables occupied. We sat for 22 min without being acknowledged while 3 different servers passed our table a few times. So we left...

Our wait staff were good & attentive, which is why we gave Hayashi two stars instead of just one, but the food wasn’t good & some of it was downright terrible. The fried rice & noodles were tasteless & greasy, tempura items were cooked in old rancid oil, our sushi roll was tasteless, & the house sake the worst we’ve ever had. Our to-go chicken dish was so tough we had to throw it out. Hard to understand why so many people give this place 4 or 5 stars - they must be staff or friends & family of staff & owners. For a much better meal in town, try the Japanese Kitchen.

We went there for the first time. The wait was long to get a seat. Then once we got the seat, the wait was long for the guy to come cook at the grill. Once the grill chef came - he was super talented, however showed very minimal interest in doing his tricks. His attitude portrayed he was in a hurry. He left too soon. Food taste was ok. Not the best. Don’t think I will go back.

We came here to celebrate our daughters birthday, after our waiter took the orders and served our beverages the cook came out and repeated our orders. One person in our group changed her mind about her sides, the cook started to talk very loudly with the waiter and ridiculed him to get the orders right. It was very unprofessional and disturbing. You seriously need to do a training with your staff on how to behave in front of your costumers!

I would like to express my total disappointment with their management at the Albuquerque location. My Parents recently were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. My mother, who loved their food, decided to spend their special day at this establishment. She called 1 MONTH in advance to make dinner reservations for 16 of us. Two weeks prior to our reservation she called to confirm and was told "Yes" we have you scheduled to come in. Just to make sure she called once more 1 week before our arrival and was told again that yes our reservation was confirmed. Upon checking into their restaurant for our scheduled reservation we were told they had no reservation for us and began sitting another party who showed up after ours into the private rooms. All private rooms were filled up. The Managers only comment was "I don't know what to tell you" and offered nothing but, "you can wait until the other parties finish eating". It brought my Mother to tears!!!!!! There we were, 16 of us in the lobby as my parents anniversary was about to be ruined. Completely unacceptable! Luckily, I was able to call another restaurant (Azuma) who understood the importance of this special day for them and graciously got us in right away into their private room. They not only lost the business of 16 paying customers that day but the business of my family from now on.

This place emphasizes its "teppan-yaki" (plate-grilled food) with numerous teppan stations filling the center of the restaurant. Regular tables, and a sushi bar with about 20 seats are also available if you want to avoid the noise and show at the teppan tables. We stopped in for lunch, and had a good time, and good food, off the teppan grill. The Chef's show is part of the experience, but I have to admit, it is less interesting the 50th time through. My wife's small filet was tender and tasty. My calamari/scallop combo was somewhat unusual for the area, but grilled tender and tasty.

We have visited this hibachi restaurants many times and have had different experiences each time. Sometimes it has been bad, but mostly decent. We went on a Sunday evening and it was packed for the hibachi style dining. We didn’t want to wait so we ate the hibachi food but at a regular table. We actually thought the hibachi food at a normal table tasted better than sitting next to the grill! We can’t wait to try it this way again!!! Especially since there wasn’t a wait!

Took 10 family members for dinner. The teppanyaki cooking was basic at best and not entertaining. The lobster was way salty and hardly edible. The Filet was cut in huge chunks but ok. The chicken was over cooked and on the dry side. Won’t be going back anytime soon.

After a week of eating junk across Arizona and Utah I was desperate for something fresh and clean. Hayashi offered this and more. This is a typical tepanyaki restaurant with chefs tossing pepper mills and knives but they also have a large sushi bat where I sat and had a Kirin before diving into the fish. The salmon sashimi was a bit thick but at the perfect temperature. The Unagi (eel) was perfect and the best I've had outside Tokyo. The Ikura (salmon roe) was bursting with flavour. I loved the food and the waiter even topped me up on ginger without me asking or drooling too heavily. So whether you want something meaty or fishy this is a great restaurant and was about $50 inc tip.

We've been to Hayashi many times and we've always been pleased. It's got a lovely decor, an excellent menu, and the food is always wonderful whether it's at a regular table with normal service, or at the hibachi table with the food prepared in front of you by a talent chef. He always puts on a great show in preparing the food and we love to take friends there.

Located on San Mateo, one of the main drags in Abq, next to a car dealership, it's so much more than the location. My husband and I sat at the bar and watched the sushi artists at work. We had the tempura softshell crab as an appetizer and both got the tempura lobster roll. I tried to get him to get something different so we could swap, but he wouldn't change his order. The rolls were great, large, flavorful rolls and very pretty presentation.
