I'm giving Blackbeard's on the Beach a 4 star rating, primarily because it is what its supposed to be... its a fun place, by the beach, spiked cocktails, fried food, decent seafood, and something for everyone on the menu. That's what I expected, and that's what I got! "The Grog" is a fun cocktail, many shots of all kinds of stuff, only 2 per customer please! The strawberry margarita was very good. The starter gumbo and crab cakes were good, not 5 star good, but Blackbeard's good! The Captain's Combo seafood platter and the salad with blackened shrimp were also very good. Great quality for a little place by the beach. The staff is great, fun and friendly. Service was good, attentive but not obtrusive. We had a great time. We'll go back after another day at the beach!

Our table was very wobbly & way in the back. My menu had food particles on the middle & that was gross! I returned it to our server & he gave me another one.I ordered the shrimp dinner hoping for half fried & half blackened but NO they don't serve it that way. The fried shrimp was good, nice sized baked potato & steamed veggies were tasty. MDH had the catch of the day-red snapper with fries & Cole slaw. He has a hearty appetite & the portion was rather small so he ate more when we got home. It was a good meal but no atmosphere at all.

After visiting the USS Lexington we walked over to get a bite for lunch. Never been there before so asked waiter what they are known for. We chose two of them Burger with bacon, guac and all the fixings, Baja tacos as they were a bit slow they were able to give me one with grilled fish the other with fried shrimp. The Coconut sauce on them was very good. Atmosphere was nothing fancy but friendly staff and good vittles.

Went last night to try and find a local seafood restaurant. The reviews were good but after dining last night, have no idea how they rate a 4 star review average.
A one hour wait was expected for a Saturday night. Not a problem, let’s have a beer while we wait.
Bought 2 bottled beers and a couple Koozies $15.00. Ok nothing better than a cold beer while waiting for a table. Beer was to say the least warm. Maybe they were selling a lot of beer and just restocked the cooler?
We are seated at our table after 2 other couples who came after we arrived where seated. Sit down a guy is playing acoustic guitar nice!
The menu is huge.. bad sign to us. You have standard American, seafood, Italian and Tex Mex options. Just my opinion, local “ seafood” restaurants should consider no more than 8-12 items on a menu and do them well, not over 40 items.
Ordered another beer this time with cold class. Guess what, they ran out of cold beer glasses! End result, beverages were not drinkable...
Not wanting anything fried we opt for the Baha grilled fish tacos. We are told the tacos are catfish, meaning frozen fish and the other available fish options Red Snapper and Mahi were the nightly entree specials. We opted for the mahi tacos.
After waiting @ 30 minutes for our order, our meal arrived! The 3 tacos were like the beer warm at best, a single 1/2” piece of fish with a decent sauce and a little bit of cole slaw in a flour tortilla.
The sides fries for the wife and beans for me were cool with a portion a 5 year old would be asking is this all that I get?
The best part of the whole night was when we received our check, $18.00 Each for Baha tacos! Tab for the night just shy of $60.00. Not including the beer before being seated.
Needless to say, this is one local that will not be returning to Blackbeard’s By The Ocean.

After visiting the Selena Museum we thought this would be a great place to have lunch.
We were wrong. If you like mostly fried foods and stale fries this is your place. Also, my wife’s Tortilla Chowder was cold and had a hard avocado slice inside of it. They were very hesitant when I asked for the $4.95 to be taken out of bill. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is for its location on the beach. It’s obviously just a tourist trap.

We visited Blackbeard's after seeing a review on our hotel that included "the purple place across the street is yummy." Our waitress, Christina, was friendly and helpful. She made a recommendation to my daughter who is 10 yo, that the child's potion may be a bit small and suggested a larger portion without going into a full size adult meal. She was right and making the adjustment worked well. My husband's salad was fresh and filling. My kids said the fries are awesome. My shrimp was good - a little bland but cooked well with a nice crispy batter. The jalapeno hush-puppies we're indeed yummy. The Brownie Explosion we had for dessert was delicious!! If we go back, I plan to try one of their "specialties."

We had a great dinner here. We ordered chips & queso as an appetizer, which was surprisingly flavorful for a primarily seafood place. I ordered the border chicken Monterrey, my husband got the grilled catch of the day (snapper) with Diablo sauce, and our son had the kids hot dog. I also had a Big Red margarita that was **chef’s kiss**. Service was friendly and quick, and everything was delicious. My chicken dish was just so unique and tasty - I would order that again in a heartbeat. The menu has plenty of options - seafood or non, in various cuisines. There’s something for everyone and it was all good.

Looks a little sketchy bit looks are definitely deceiving. Great service and great food. We were seated promptly for Sunday lunch in the off-season. The shrimp sampler is great as was the fish and shrimp basket. Don't let the appearance dissuade you from this experience.

We ate here while on a mini vacation at the end of April 2021. We had Fish and Chips and Popcorn Shrimp and Chips. Both were really good. People were spread out and the waitstaff wore masks. It has a fun atmosphere and apparently it's haunted as you can take a ghost tour!
The only exception was the VERY loud table behind us throwing F bombs with every other word. Our sweet waitress apologized for the noise. Despite that, I would definitely eat here again.

Best seafood on four day trip. I only went there because it was very close to my condo. But I was very surprised! I had blackened fish, fried shrimp, and a loaded baked potato. Better food that the other, better reviewed restaurants. A dive with a lot of alcohol drinks on menus but I don’t drink so can’t give a review. Staff was polite, quick, and non-obtrusive. Good prices.

Stopped for a carryout order of fried shrimp and they were super fresh tasting. They even included some to go sauces and I'm not sure what they were, but they were absolutely amazing with the shrimp. We didn't dine in, but the environment looked fun and the t shirts were funny as well. Nice staff.

We stopped here because of the good reviews on trip advisor and wish we hadn't. The outside was a little run down but I know not to judge a book by the cover so we decided to try it anyway. First off they don't have sweet tea! This is Texas! How can you not have sweet tea?! We got over it and ordered sodas but then the food came.....my mom said some of her shrimp tasted weird and my fish was so overcooked and dry I couldn't eat it. We also got chips and salsa and I swear the salsa is pace picante sauce....the only good thing was my dad's burger. He said it was pretty good so that would be the only plus. Oh I guess I can add that our waiter was super nice so I'll give it 2 points. Don't go to the bathroom while here either. Both my dad and boyfriend said the bathroom was disgusting so I waited and went to a gas station on our way home. I'm so disappointed because I had such high hopes for this place but I won't be back. Bad first impression and my mom ended up being sick afterwards....not saying it was the food for sure but she was fine before.

Kinda dark and old, but now after reading the previous review it makes sense, Blackbeard is supposed to be haunted. My fried shrimp were delicious but my husband’s grilled shrimp had no flavor. The atmosphere in the building was upbeat, it could have been a little cleaner.
There was a sign at the register that said “mask not required but strongly recommended”
This was right after the CDC change it’s guidelines. Overall I give it a thumbs up !!

We visited twice on our recent trip. The first my husband had the grilled catfish. He said it was very salty. He was allowed 2 sides so ordered thecsteamed veggies
They brought his fish and said the veggies would be along soon.they were.
I ordered the grilled chicken breastbone sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese. The chicken was a little dry. My steamed veggies were cold. My fault though I didn't return them. Baker was good and they brought plenty of butter.
Forgot to mention the seared tuna appetizer. It was so very good. Seared perfectly!
Really enjoyed the singer/musician that night.
Went back two days later for lunch. This time my husband asked that they not season his fish or sides if veggies. It was perfect.
I had a grilled shrimp taco. Lots of shrimp too. I also has a side of veggies. Mostly green beans but very good.

The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. But everything went downhill after this. The peel and eat shrimp was old and mushy. It also smelled very shrimpy. (The waiter very promptly removed this from our bill.)
The rest of our food was just average. It just wasn’t very tasty or appealing.
