Our favorite restaurant in sugarhouse. Food is excellent, nice presentation and service is always friendly. Location and ambiance are very nice. All our guest in town that we take to eat Vietnamese food are all impressed with the location, food and service. Michael is always...there to greet us and Andy the waitress is always welcoming. The food was excellent. The service was adequate but could have been better considering how empty it was due to the late hour. The portions are large. I will be back next time I am in town.

We decided to try their carry out. We love Vietnamese and this is good, but we still have better ones in SLC. We had the spring rolls which were good, the Kung Pao Chicken and Garlic Pork. The sauces were not as delicate as they...could have been.More

I used to love this restaurant and the food and service were all great up until I seemed to inconvenience one of the waiters named Andy, the other night. My boyfriend and I went to Somi on the evening of November 3rd and ordered chicken...lo mein and mu shu vegetable dish. I am vegan so I order the mu shu vegetable dish and read the ingredients. It says wood ear mushroom and scallion pancakes. Not only is it under the vegetarian section of the menu, I even ask Andy what’s in the main dish and asked her exactly what the “scallion pancakes” were and what’s in them. She proceeds to tell me the main dish it’s contains wood ear mushroom, cabbage and onion, and scallion pancakes were just rice pancakes with scallions. So I ordered it. Then my boyfriend ordered his dish and she proceeded to ask “Did you want fried egg on it’ and he said yes, thinking it’s included in with the meal/optional. We received the food and I start eating what turns out to be scrambled eggs mixed in with my dish. So I pick it out and we finish our food. We get the bill and it has a $3 charge for fried egg. We were confused because she didn’t mention it cost, otherwise he wouldn’t have gotten it. When we get the bill my bf pays in cash $40 (2 twenties) and the waitress, Andy, didn’t bring back any change and took the remainder ($13) as a tip and didn’t come back. My bf had to get up and ask for his change back. As we leave my bf mentions to the manager that he was charged for fried egg and wasn’t notified that it cost extra, how Andy neglected to bring him change and that they should have in the menu or tell customers that there is an egg in something that you wouldn’t normally think would have egg in it. (This wasn’t fried rice, it was a mushroom vegetable dish on the vegetarian menu). My boyfriend didn’t ask for a refund or anything but the manager, Michael, apologized profusely and gave us a $25 gift card which we appreciated greatly. We come back on December 8th and order 2 drinks and 2 entrees. They definitely remembered us, Michael greeted us at the door and seated us and Andy was our server. They didn’t seem too happy to see us, especially Andy because we remember her. Andy took our order and since we ordered drinks she asked for our ID’s, without hesitation we gave them to her. Our drinks didn’t come for a while and the Micheal came back to our table and asked if we ordered drinks, we said yes, and he asked for our ID’s again. Again, without hesitation, we showed them to him. He then stares at them for a really long time, and goes to the back to scan them. Shortly after, our drinks arrive. I’m pretty sure one of them spit in my drink because there were bubbles at the top of an otherwise straight liquor drink and liquor doesn’t have bubbles, also noting they had a different server bring us the alcohol. When we order Andy emphasizes profusely and sarcastically to my boyfriend that there is an egg in the fried rice. I had to ask if there was an egg in the rice that usually comes with my dish. Seems like a correction from last time, but it was sarcastic so verifying that she remembered us. My bf tried to pay with the gift card and his debit card and she said the giftcard had zero balance. So he put it all on his debit card. We then asked another server to verify the card’s balance and who also remembered us and was there while Michael first issued the giftcard to us and LITERALLY said quote “I remember you guys because I was there when he put $25 on the card, let me check for you”. And then Michael comes back with the card and says “There’s an issue with the system, let me see what’s wrong” and leaves for a long time and comes back with a bunch of crap scribbled on the paper with false numbers and says “You came here at 2pm on Sunday October 27th and reedemed this card for $57 and we had $50 on it originally.” And we tried to explain to him that HE issued the card on November 3rd for $25 for [this] reason and there was no way possible we could have used the card before the date it was issued and we have never gone there during the day time. He didn’t listen to anything we said, he got super defensive and told my boyfriend that he had “two cards” and that he is mistaken and that he “doesn’t remember when he went to restaurants” ect ect and Michael just snatched the paper with these made up numbers and stormed away. We have significant locations proof, we have receipts, all of that. So TLDR: the owner or manager Michael lied to us and gave us a fake card, and the server Andy, is a thief. This used to my favorite restaurant and I thought these were the kindest people but this is disgusting service and I’m never coming here again. In no way have we disrespected anyone at this establishment to warrant this kind of treatment. I wasn’t aware that asking about ingredients and menu transparency was that big of an offence.More

Had one night in SLC and stumbled upon SOMI and will make a point to mke our way back next time we are here. We shared the crispy egg rolls and calamari to start, both are gluten free! Yes, gluten free egg rolls! I am...celiac so finding food while on the road is always a challenge, but not at SOMI. My partner had the Szechuan seafood and he killed it, said it really wasn't too spicy. I had beef pho. So good. Try the sake margarita, really well balanced and not too strong. Service was chill and helped give us a relaxing meal. Would highly recommend this place to anyone but especially if you have to eat gluten free, everything is clearly marked and the staff is educated. Thanks Somi!!More

Visited Vietnamese food in Salt Lake city, the restaurant is well-decorated, provide many types of Vietnamese food. We recommended short rib Pho, the beef was really not too thick. Summer roll and crispy spring roll are also good, and we highly recommend fried banana for...dessert (forget to take a photo since it is sooooo good).More

The food here is incredible, I eat here all the time. It is located in the quaint Sugarhouse neighborhood of Salt Lake. There are many choices on the menu and they offer many choices for those with dietary restrictions V/GF. The only reason I gave...them 4 stars instead of 5 is that sometimes the service is slower than I like.More
