Threesome for a birthday dinner with newbies to this restaurant which all loved. Starters included ceviche, which was outstanding, with a wonderful, tangy lime sauce! If you like tangy/tart sauces, then wouldn't pass this one up; if you don't like tart, then pass on to another appetizer. Caesar salad was very good. Clam chowder was a thick, lots of bits/pieces filled bowl which was outstanding. Bread has thyme and rosemary in it, served warm and is quite good. The entrees we tried were scallops, fish n chips, and halibut. The scallops have a carrot-ginger sauce which is excellent, and includes some perfectly prepped peapods and carrots. The fish n' chips are lightly breaded, not heavy, crispy and served piping hot, just super! The California halibut was the day's special and had a unique, tasty sauce that had olive oil, citrus and other things. The passion fruit/honey gelato for dessert was tangy and an excellent finish for a great dinner. The dessert menu looks quite interesting, so next time, we'll pace better to get one of the other desserts. ;) Wait and other staff all kind and helpful; Bonny took super care of us. Atmosphere is uniquely an old Ford dealership and there are some interesting photos and letters in the bathrooms from that era. Noise level easily allows for conversation. Overall value is good for a higher-end restaurant. Definitely will happily return.

Cool looking restaurant in the heart of downtown. Great seafood menu with interesting options. Loved the Thai fish stew - spicy, flavorful and very fresh seafood. They serve it in a way that it looks small but it’s deceiving, you need to mix it all together. The branzino was served without bones which is always a pleasure, over Fava beans with interesting sauces. Great carrot appetizer with delicious feta sauce and crunch chickpeas. Didn’t love the chocolate salted caramel dessert due to the strange cream it was served with that tasted like spice cake, didn’t work with chocolate and caramel. Service was fantastic, would recommend.

Very interesting/pleasant well-tended decor and comfortable booth seats giving some privacy. My companion and I tried the Clam Chowder and Fish 'n Chips. The Chowder was so thick on could stand up a spoon in the bowl. Xnt. The Fish was xnt quality and the fries were fresh and crisp. Vinegar was served automatically and the Tartar Sauce and ketchup replenished as needed by the attentive server. For dessert we had the xnt Chocolate Chip ice cream which may have been made onsite (I forgot to ask). In addition to all the food items being of top quality, the portions were also satisfying. The food was served quickly. I think we were there barely more than 6 minutes before our food arrived. The menu as one would expect is nearly all fish-related. IIRC there was a chicken dish as well. Was impressed at how the staff worked together as a team like a well-oiled machine. Am happy to give Current Fish & Oyster one of my rare 5 star ratings. Can't wait to get back to SLC and eat here again.

Can't say enough good about it. We had several dishes, Spanish octopus, Caesar salad, raw oysters, shrimp & grits, seared calamari and everything was top notch. Given that it was a Sunday evening I was slightly apprehensive, but nothing disappointed. Waitress Miriah could not have been better - beautiful, sweet, engaging, and attentive. Music playlist was on point with late 80's vibes. Dining room has high ceilings, light & airy atmosphere. Would definitely go back if in SLC.

I was visiting my daughter in SLC for Christmas. She wanted to try Current because she had heard it was very nice. We had reservations and were seated right away. Our server was very attentive. There was an extensive wine list and we were pleased with our choices. We shared an order of mussels that were phenomenal. Daughter ordered shrimp and grits, and she thought the shrimp was a bit overcooked. I had the seafood Cobb salad and a bowl of clam chowder. My salad was delicious. The clam chowder didn't have an discernible clams in it, so that was disappointing. This is an expensive restaurant, and I left feeling like it was a little overpriced and overrated.

My husband retired in December so we went to have a special meal. It was such a great experience. We haven't been getting out much due to Covid, so I had forgotten what it feels like to have such exceptional food and service. The flavor profiles of the food are all so professionally melded. Service is amazing! They are very careful about masks, hand sanitizer, spacing... Masks are required if you leave your table. We had the broiled king crab legs and crab cakes for appetizers. I had the seared scallops and my husband had the black cod for our entrees. We had the Guava Cheesecake for desert. All of it was outstanding. If I did have one complaint it's that the wine menu is very expensive. I think the lowest priced bottle is $58 if I recall correctly. And, they have a corkage fee for a lot of wines on the menu they are calling "special order". I think it was $13 on top of the wine price. We settled on a $68 Zinfandel which was nice, but not worth $68. We spent close to $300 for two people, so it's not something we will be doing on a regular basis. But, I would definitely go back for a special occasion.

Went with a party of eight to celibate a birthday. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold, noticed most of the waiters were wearing sweaters to compensate, unfortunately we didn't dress for it. Our waiter was somewhat clueless when questioned on the menus and inattentive until we asked for help from the manager. I had the halibut with roast vegetables my wife had scallops. While he food was presented in a visually appeasing manner, the halibut was mediocre at best, no better than you would get at a fast food chain. The roast vegetables were nearly uneatable. Best part of the meal was the birthday cake my daughter brought in, which they graciously cut and served for us. Check was presented with a 20% gratuity and tax on the gratuity, which is not unexpected for a large party, if you consider eight a large party. Prices where on the high end for Salt lake City. Overall the dining experience was disappointing for the cost. If you are looking for a comfortable restaurant with good food and service at a fair price I'd advise you to look elsewhere.

My husband took me to Current for my birthday. We were looking for a highly rated seafood restaurant with a good cocktail and wine selection. We were not disappointed! The restaurant printed our menus with Happy Birthday Angie on top and almost every person who helped us wished me Happy Birthday (sure beats singing waiters). Our dessert had a candle and Happy Birthday written on the plate. We enjoyed the unique selection of signature cocktails and the wine list was impressive. Every dish was excellent and the attention to detail made all the difference. I had the broiled King crab and my husband opted for the ribeye (he almost didn't need a knife). Their version of a wedge salad was beautiful and tasty. The bread was divine and even the shrimp cocktail had a unique flavor twist. The decor is industrial boho and the wait staff is mostly attentive and efficient. This review would be five stars if our waitress had been a little warmer and the bar had not been a tad slow. We love that seating is spread out (a silver lining to the Covid nightmare) and our booth felt private and romantic. Would recommend for those seeking a new adventure in fine dining.

Horrible service and the food is mediocre at best. This is not a family establishment, they prioritized large inappropriate parties over local families. They defended a party who taunted my family and was very inappropriate to my family of 4, including 2 children (9 and 12).

As soon as our waiter, Laura greeted us I could tell that we were in great hands. Laura knew the finite details of the menu and easily guided our table with some diet restrictions as well as taste preferences. Adding to the experience was the kitchen and the rest of the staff. This is a must experience! Chef William...

For fish aficionados, this is a must-visit destination! Housed in a repurposed garage, traces of its history are charmingly evident in its facade and roofing. The ambiance sets a perfect backdrop for an exquisite meal. We indulged in the market fish, scallops, fish stew, and salmon. To finish off, we savored a delightful selection of ice creams and sorbets. Every dish was an embodiment of culinary excellence.

What a difference a day makes. Next day ( Thursday evening) I came here. Robust menu with a variety of fish including delicious branzino ( sea bass) @ $30 and excellent service ( he knew the entire menu and made recommendations). Did I mention the well decorated use of space with an upstairs for over flow and outdoor fire pit? Ambience just right for hardworking “yuppie” with a well stocked bar!

First restaurant outing post Covid-19 Lockdown was a wonderful success at Current. We felt very safe and that they were taking all the precautions to create a very safe environment for customers and employees. We ordered takeout from them several times during the Stay at Home directive to support local business and everything we ordered was delicious. Much to my dismay, my favorite Guava Cheesecake was not on the takeout menu and when I asked about it and a manager said he would look into it and fight to get it back. When they were getting ready to reopen for dining, I got an email from him personally informing me that the cheesecake would be back and included in their menu as they ease out of the lockdown. I promptly made a reservation for the night after they opened. The Cheesecake was THE thing I wanted for my birthday during Covid lockdown and the month and a half wait was well worth it!!! Everything we ordered was so perfect and the service was outstanding. And as we all know, everything tastes even more perfect when it comes straight from the kitchen so being back in the restaurant was that much better. Current Fish and Oyster continues to deliver every time I visit. This is the second raving review I have left for them and I generally don’t leave reviews for restaurants unless something was terrible. But outstanding food and service deserves outstanding recognition. Order literally anything on their menu and you will not be disappointed...but my personal favorites are: the Ceviche, Grilled Calamari, Roasted Cauliflower, Shrimp and Grits, Fish Stew, Caramelized Salmon, and the Guava Cheesecake.

My boyfriend and I went here for my birthday and the staff took such great care of us! Not only was the food exceptional, but our server also went out of her way to make the evening special, going as far as to print "Happy Birthday" on our menus and bring us a little sorbet with a candle at the end of the meal. I was so touched that they made the effort to do this. The restaurant was hyper-diligent about taking COVID precautions and keeping their diners and staff members safe. We can't wait to go back and try more of their menu.

Just a cool place. The most outstanding aspect of the restaurant were the friendly bartenders. I sat at the bar and they went out of their way to ensure that I had a great time and felt welcome. My cocktail was too sweet but the yellowtail carpaccio starter was delicious with strawberries as an accent and a yummy green sauce. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the accompanying mashed potatoes and green beans were great as well. The atmosphere is cool chic and everyone seemed to have a great time here. I loved it. I had a starter, cocktail, main course and glass of wine and my bill was $75 before tip. Hope this helps.
