Must try the mole! It is award-winning for a reason. The tacos were nothing exceptional, but the menu has many authentic dishes to offer. The mole section is wide and varied. Because of covid, they are taking reservations (they didn't take reservations before according to...the locals). But even with a reservation, the restaurant is so popular that we had to wait for our table anyway. But waiting for 20 minutes is better than waiting for 1-2 hours without a reservation. They also have a robust take-out service that will allow you to try their award-winning food without waiting for a table. The staff is VERY friendly and are happy to talk about the menu and give their honest recommendations. The restaurant followed covid guidelines with spaced-out tables, wiping down every table and chair after use, and all staff wore masks and gloves. Highly recommend!More

Mexican cuisine is one of my favorites, so I'm pretty picky on quality and fresh ingredients. Red Iguana has it all! Nice variety of dishes--traditional and creative new ones. Excellent taste--very authentic. Nice outdoor seating too.

This was advised by all reviews as an iconic local restaurant with the best Mexican food for miles and it was all that. I can't add to this! All is good, some items better than great. It is not a cheap eats or fancy and...is is busy and there will be a wait. Worth it.More

We stopped here after a long flight out of New Jersey and needless to say we needed some rejuvenation. Coming from NYC area, this was without a doubt the best Mexican food we’d ever had. My brother got the Red Iguana combo plate with a...bloody Maria, and his girlfriend and I got the moles — I’d recommend asking for a mole sampler to choose one. The food was not only extraordinary but unlike anything we have tasted before, couldn’t recommend enough!!More

After hearing stories of the Red Iguana from my business travels, my 17 year old son told me we have to make a detour to the Red Iguana on our road trip visiting National Parks. It did not disappoint. The salsa, the enchiladas, the mole,...all off the charts! If you remotely enjoy Mexican food, you need to get to this spot. It is simply the best!More

So glad we looked this place up! Our very friendly server let us sample all 9 of the moles they had the day we were there (6 are always on the menu). Having never been a mole fan before I was rather unsure about ordering...a mole dish. Wow! I don't think I ever had real mole before this. The flavors were incredible! I had a hard time choosing which dish to order. I ended up with the daily special of Mole De Calabaza with carnitas and my husband went with the King of Mole..Mole Negro with chicken. We were both very pleased. The salsa served with the chips was very nice and smoky flavored. Being from central Texas we are leery of eating Mexican cuisine outside the southwest but this was a treat! And as I mentioned, the first time I experience real mole done right! Do not miss if you are in Salt Lake City. We arrived a little earlier in the evening because of an early flight the next day so we only had a 20 minute wait.More

I have heard of the red iguana and how good it is for years. Finally got to SLC to try it. After an hours wait (the locals like lit) we were presented with a menu that was truly exceptional with the number and variety of...choices. I believe there were 5 different moles. Food might be great in SLC but does not compare to Mex. available in NM or AZ. Got it off my bucket list but would not go backMore

Salsa is great, but now they have you paying for a bag of chips (never happened before). If I dined in, different story, this makes no sense at all. I'll be taking my $ to Chunga's instead. Over a bag of chips. You're salsa is...good, but I'll find it elsewhere from now on.More

Any time we come through SLC we try to fit in a meal (or two) at Red Iguana. The wait to get in is well worth it, as the food is ALWAYS delicious. There are often tasty specials, but everything I've had here has been...good. I recommend it to everyone I know who is going to be in SLC. The staff is on top of everything, as well as being polite & helpful with any questions about the menu. Until I ate here, I thought I disliked mole. Now I know there are many different types/flavors of moles! If only they had a restaurant in my home town!!!More

Most definitely. They have full liquor service, including high-point craft beers from Utah and sometimes elsewhere.
