Covid has had no impact on the quality of food served. The menu has a wide selection of great seafood! You have a choice of the table top full service dinning room or the patio/bar setting. It is fully enclosed and usually has fire burning...in the patio area. We prefer the relaxed bar/patio with orders placed at the bar which is well organized. It amazing when we go to the coast and eat at the great restaurants that their food does not match Jim Shaws. While I usually order the same one or two entrees at most places here I enjoy a wide selection including blackened shrimp, blackened salmon, mussels, raw oysters, crab chowder, beef medallions appetizer, battered fries, crab claws and on and on.More

We were recommended to eat here by everyone who knew we were coming to Macon. We got here early to find they now open at 4:30. Got lucky and got the famed Will as our server! He's as excellent as the legend goes. Ordered pimento...cheese fritters and fried pickles for appetizers. Delicious. Hubby got fried alligator and shrimp. I got fried Shrimp and Oysters. As usual, we shared back and forth. He loved everything. After a couple of bites of shrimp and oysters, I remembered I was having surgery in the morning and lost my appetite. Never fear, though, he's looking forward to my leftovers.More

We are regulars at Jim Shaws. Shipper runs a great Ship. They welcomed us back and had all tables spaced as they needed to be. We had raw oysters, fried shrimp and blackened trout. All of it was GREAT! Jim Shaws is a jewel in...Macon. Ant traveler would be rewarded if they tried it out.More

A Friday night dinner at 6:30pm for a party of four family members…. THE GOOD: The house dressing is a personal favorite and was enjoyed by all at our table. It is an onion-tomato vinaigrette, and I would love to have that recipe! The fried...pimento cheese fritters are flavorful and pair well with the sweet and tangy red pepper jelly. The crab chowder is always delicious, and the raw oysters were enjoyed with hot sauce and crackers. The catfish was the star at our table this evening with three of us ordering it. Their catfish was lightly breaded in cornmeal and fried lightly golden brown—not overcooked or undercooked but just right. Shrimp and scallops were blackened to perfection. Jim Shaw’s uses the best blackening seasoning. Squash casserole was flavorful, baked potato was hot, and battered fries were golden and crispy. The cheese grits are a recommended side dish and are smooth, creamy, and cheesy. As far as service goes, our waiter was Will, and he was excellent. He greeted us warmly, was patient and answered questions, and checked with us frequently during our visit. I especially appreciate a server who thinks ahead about what we may need, and Will did that for us. Extra napkins were provided and drinks were refilled frequently without having to ask. That is exceptional service. Request Will on your next visit, and he will take good care of you! THE BAD: On this visit for each of us, there was nothing bad to report. Every dish met our expectations, and service was impeccable; it was a delightful evening. You do not have to drive to the Georgia or Florida coast for fresh, high quality seafood. Jim Shaw’s has the best and freshest seafood around, and we have been enjoying it for decades. We highly recommend this place!!!More

This restaurant has been around for a long time. It is not fancy at all, but is where many locals enjoy seafood, fish, alligator, frog legs, oysters, catfish, etc. Grilled, fried, blackened or broiled -- all delicious!

Best breaded shrimp in the area. I also recommend the grits as one of your sides. I keep trying to find excuses to go back to this restaurant for the delicious food. We went during the week because it gets very crowded on the weekends.

Jim Shaw’s, hands down, is the best seafood restaurant in the state. I only go to the bar side where Sydney, Heath, and Will are like extended family. Even after living in another town for several years, I still come in, they call me by...name, and pop the top of my favorite beer by the time I reach the bar. The food is fantastic! It is brought in fresh, daily, from the coast!More

great selections...fresh grilled seafood ...good service and the place is usually packed. You can almost expect a wait as they DON'T take reservations...but worth the wait for a very good meal...One of the best "every day" seafood restaurants we have dinner..

I'm always impressed at the quality of seafood at Jim Shaw's, especially considering it's located 3 hours from the coast. Even after living in Florida for over 5 years, I have still yet to find reasonably priced seafood better than what's served at Jim Shaw's....The blackened gator is one of my favorite dishes of all time, and the cozy atmosphere always provides an enjoyable setting for dinner. Even if you have to wait for a table, their bar next door is a fun place to wait and grab an appetizer and/or drink.More
