This place was a little disappointing. It's cute and a nice atmosphere, but the foods is only OK, particularly for the price. We found the service to be lacking. Also, beware the hours. The first night we tried to eat there we walked in at...More

"ok" is probably my best description of Alice May. Every single aspect of the restaurant is OK. Everything could be better but at least it's not bad.

We went here after visiting the hot pools. I mentioned it was my birthday and we chatted to the lady. For desert, she bought me ice cream with a candle and got the whole restaurant singing happy birthday. It bought tears to my eyes and...More

Really nice dinner here tonight, we both had the lamb shank, in fact I had their double portion! It was fabulous. Pumpkin mash and loads of veg. Nice bottle of Pinot noir and a pavlova....excellent. Our Argentinian waiter was brilliant. Much better on the inside...More

My wife and I dined there in late August 2016. It is a charming restaurant, and it was one of the best dinners we had during our trip to the South Island. Be sure to read about how the restaurant got its name.

We had a nice meal there. Great selection and fast service. Tables a bit close together but apart from that definitely no complaints. Would eat there again if we are back.

One of the best meals we had on our S.I. trip. It's a change to have a first class meal without pretense. Well prepared and well presented Kiwi food in a relaxing environment. So good to see someone making a commitment to remember a family...More

Had beef creek match with Pinot Noir. The beef has good texture and yet melts in your mouth. Stepping into the restaurant gives u a Christmas feel. Service is excellent. Good place for good food on a holiday.

Hi - yes we are open New Year's Eve and we take bookings for 6 or more people. If less than that just wander in - no need to book. Cheers Jennie

Description
As warm and welcoming, as a traditional English Carriage House. The white walls and exposed rafters are adorned with riding tack, farm tools and other historic artifacts. While the wooden floors, wagon wheel bar stools and open fireplace add to the warmth.
