Family group of 17 stuffed about and didn't organise anywhere for dinner. Chateaux staff sorted it out and got us in here and fed us. Excellent food and great service.

Best place in town for a quick lunch , very nice people and great food. Go for the day's specials !!! The place is on the side of the chateau , you can't miss it. Parking is not a problem!

This is in a side room of the Chateau Tongariro, which you can reach either by a labyrinth of corridors or by going outside the hotel towards the road. We ate most nights of our stay, and found the food to be excellent. In fact the food has improved a lot at the Chateau since we were there a few... More

Great little cafe buried in the depths of the old Chateau. Great soups! Good burgers too... Loved the chips. Good lunch stop over... Well priced and good coffee!

Warm and friendly staff. Coffees and hot chocolates were delicious but....seeing a pie warmer on one of the tables and cakes/ sandwiches in a fridge alongside $20 mains on a menu suggests there is a identity crisis. Lots of potential but not quite hitting the mark just yet.

The cafe is attached to and part of the Chateau Tongararo hotel although it is situated on the periphery and is accessible to all, and non residents of the hotel are welcomed. It has a good standard and selection of cakes and snacks and the staff are friendly and welcoming.

The Chateau Tongariro’s Pihanga Café provides good quality, pub-type food in a warm and bustling setting. However, it does pay to book, as it can get very busy – at any time of the year.

rather than eat in the hotel restaurant, we chose to eat in this less formal venue. Although we enjoyed the food and the service was good, the room ws let down by its decoration which gave the effect that you were eating in a old fashioned municipal building. It was so offputting ttah we wouldn't have eaten there again .

Theres not much to choose from food wise at the hotel - the Silver Service dining room, this cafe or the pub down the road that does burgers and pizzas. We chose the Pihanga - I was a bit let down by its location in the hotel - its a journey you have to go through several floors to get... More
