Ordered the regular fish and chip and it was very good. It was a pretty large piece of fish fried just right. In addition the seasoned french fries were delicious.

If you're in the area , visiting or live here, you need to stop in! You won't be sorry, no matter what you order, you're going to love it! This establishment has been around for years, and they have a stellar reputation! So make it...a destination, you will be glad you did!More
My partner and I stopped in on a Friday winter afternoon for lunch. I was starving, AND on a diet. So fried food was not on my possible list. He could do whatever, and very predictably, got the Fish & Chips. He quipped that the...fish "jumped out of the water onto his plate - that's how fresh it was. Fries were fries." At $16, that was the going price to my mind. My baked scallops with crumb topping was $19 - which does not make the restaurant qualify for 'not the same as Merrills or Black Whale' also in New Bedford. In other words, prices are not cheap, but not outrageous. My baked potato had been re-heated, and the one step up from plastic silverware knife could not cut the skin. the broccoli was so overcooked (or re-cooked a few times) that the color was more yellow than green. the scallops on my 'light plate - $19' as opposed to $$25 or more for more scallops, were okay, but topped with literally bread crumbs so baked on that I had to scrape them as well off the crock. I was VERY disappointed, while my partner was pleased. Life and learn. My sense is that people come to the Cove for fried, and for that, I'm guessing the food is fine, if not plentiful and good. Stick to that, or don't go.More
We had a super delicious, perfectly cooked meal. The chowder was amazing. I understand why they have received so many trophies & awards for their chowder. Completely delicious. I’ve been there quite a few times. Always fantastic!!
Our family have eaten at Cove surf and Turf a number of times, and have also used their delivery service. This Christmas weekend was very small for us and I decided to order rather than cook. We got the steak tips, the baked chicken parm...as well as the meat pie with mashed potato & butternut squash. All high quality and delicious. I love that they are local and can take complete accountability for their food and service.More
We expected to be wow'd by everything we ordered. We had never been there before so thought we should try the clam cakes (I never heard of them before) which, in my mind, were like hush puppies - fried and breaded, didn't really taste any...clams. The only thing "seafood" about it was the tarter sauce. My husband and I both had casseroles which were very tasty but we both liked the picked beets the best - not such a great commentary for a seafood restaurant if we enjoyed the beets best of all. To us it was just average fare; nothing spectacular to write home about. We had a waiter who was pretty slow but the waitresses were running their butts off so kudos to them for a wonderful job.More
Cove Surf and Turf isn't fancy—it's just real good food. Started with medium spicy Portuguese kale soup, a regional favorite. Delicious with beans instead of potatoes. But the star of the show was the 1.5# lobster. It came with corn and another side for under...$30. Paper plates, plenty of butter and napkins, great waitress (thanks Melanie), some Sam Summer Ale, an almost perfect meal.More
We ate outside in a cozy wooden picket fence enclosure that was painted with mermaids and other things to do with the sea. This was a perfect compliment to the perfectly cooked fried whole clams, fried calamari, big 8 oz. Burger, and the biggest and...best fried onion rings I have ever had. I can't wait to go again.More
My friend and I ate here on Sat around noon. Kylie and Kim were friendly and provided good service. The meal was fresh and each item had its own flavor. I thought the clamcakes were especially tasty with adequate amt of clams. Chowder was creamy...and potatoes were small just like I want them, WE plan on returning soon. We initially were going to Newport until we noticed the ad on the back of a magazine. What a find!!!!More
Our first time trying CST’s kale soup and we really enjoyed it. It came just as pictured. A perfect amount of kale, vegies and meats. My wife felt that it was on the spicy side but she agreed it was a flavorful spice and not...a hot mouth burning spice and that the flavors were blended perfectly. Very tasty. It comes with crackers or you can ask for a pop. I wiped the bowl with my last piece of pop and it was gone. Could have gone for another bowl. It’s really good! *****More
We hadn't been to Cove Surf & Turf in a couple of years, to say it has improved immensely is not enough. It is fantastic. Located in an area adjacent to Clarks Cove, there is an enormous amount of take-out here some from established takeout...customers, others who discovered this place since COVID 19 struck. The menu is very good, something for everyone. I especially like their rib bomb. Loaded to the gills with thin cut pieces of ribeye steak, onions, cheese and peppers it is almost impossible to finish at one setting. It comes the some of the best French fries or onion rings you ever had. I also enjoy their burgers. My wife loves their seafood choices including their overflowing platter of fish & chips. Their cocktails mixed extremely well, their draft beer choices are limited but always ice cold. Parking can be a problem, as they have a small lot in a crowded area. The staff is very friendly and treat you like family. Well worth a try if you haven't been there. A must stop in New Bedford.More
it's hard to tell which was better... the food or the service. The scallops were sweet, tender and fried to perfection. Our chowder was delicious - I'm only sorry I didn't think to order some to bring home. We've visited Cove Surf & Turf on...a number of occasions and each time our servers have been outstanding, courteous and made us feel like we were the only diners they were tending to. It was such a lovely and relaxing visit. Can't wait to go back.More
My family and some friends took a ride from Rhode Island to New Bedford for the day. After taking a walk on the hurricane barrier we were hungry. We consulted our phones and came up with the Cove as the place to get lunch. The...staff was very welcoming and you could tell that they enjoying their job. The COVID precautions were more elaborate than any I have seen anywhere else. When the food came it was fantastic. The BEST (and highest) cheeseburger I ever saw. It was great. My wife loved her lobster roll and the rest of the party all ate too much. Don’t forget to try the clam cakes . Clam in every bite.More
atmosphere excellent, waitress excellent, fish and chips excellent, fried clams NOT SO MUCH. Suppose to be "belly" clams. Not a belly in site. This soft shell clam was best suited for the clam boil they have on the menu, NOT passed off as a "fried" clam....At $30 for the clams i was disappointed to say the least The cook should have known better. Too bad, I really wanted to like the place, but being a fair person I'll give them another shot, but sadly can't recommend the "belly" clamsMore
Stumbled upon Cove, and so happy we did. When back in the NB area we will definitely return. After a long hot day working in the area, we wanted some seafood, and if it could have a Portuguese spin to it, all the better. Stopped...at one place, which was a bit too snooty - we were not looking for a fancy meal in a take out carton. Stopped at another place which we quickly left - dark, not very clean. Then we found Cove. Such friendly staff! Answered our questions, made suggestions. We were not disappointed in the food. Although I've not often had a bad clam cake, Cove's were some of the best we've had - good clam taste and texture. The small fish and chip plate (they have 3 sizes to choose from) was the perfect size for what we wanted, and the fish done perfectly, and the fries tasty. The haddock Mozambique was delicious and exactly what I was looking for that eve. I could have had a bit more haddock in it, but for the price I was satisfied and the taste was absolutely wonderful. THANK YOU Cove staff, and congrats on such a great neighborhood place and working through Covid challenges.More
