The restaurant is located in historic, cobblestoned downtown New Bedford, across from the Whaling Museum. Very clean brightly lit place with nautical vibe, outdoor seating, friendly staff and great food. We had a very fulsome breakfast with coffees. Satisfying and priced right , coming in...at just under $40.More

While many bars and restaurants, offering great food and drinks, were not very busy in New Bedford during our mid-Nov trip, Tia Maria's was hopping with patrons enjoying delicious breakfasts. We loved the Portuguese breads, cheeses, and the egg and homefries plates.

This review is for service only since we didn't get the chance to eat. We made the mistake of heading to New Bedford for dinner on a Saturday night without a reservation and were having a hard time finding a place with availability. I called...Tia Maria's to see how long their wait was for 4 people and was told there was no wait. We were nearby and drove straight there. Upon arrival, we were asked if we had a reservation and I said no. We were told there was a mechanical issue in the kitchen and they weren't taking any more parties except their last reservation. I stated that I had literally just called 5 minutes ago and wasn't told anything about this and was told there was no wait. The gentleman just stated it was beyond their control. I wasn't upset that something unfortunate happened but I was definitely upset at how we were treated - rudely, with no sympathy or caring at all. How bad was the mechanical issue if they were still able to take their reservations and serve the rest of the restaurant? Why couldn't they serve us as well? Needless to say I was incredibly disappointed and none of us will ever be returning. Luckily we were able to celebrate my husband's birthday with a great dinner elsewhere in New Bedford.More

I stopped by for breakfast based on the reviews. First cup of coffee was burnt; I drank it. The refill was okay, but I had to ask for it. I asked for sunny side eggs; the eggs were over hard. No butter on the side,...dry home fries. I wouldn't go back. Atmosphere was nice.More

Not worth it. Mozambique sauce lacks flavor. No kick. Worst Mozambique sauce in the city. Given ketchup for the rodelas that would typically be soaked in Mozambique sauce 🤮😞

If you are lucky enough to snare a few of the outdoor seats at this charming local cafe, you can soak up some old New Bedford atmosphere, watch the world go by, and more importantly enjoy some quality food and drink at modest prices. On...a very hot afternoon, we opted for Iced Coffee and Iced Tea, both of which were freshly and skillfully brewed, not out of some can! You can opt for breakfast or lunch, and the menus of both are quite extensive. Instead of omelets or sandwiches, both of which sounded quite good, we order "appetizers" of Shrimp Cakes and Clam Cakes. Each portion was of 4 very dense and tasty shellfish patties.infused with corn, potatoes and spices. The service is gracious, the prices are modest to moderate and it is a great place to hang out inside or out.More

Came here for breakfast with a friend. We checked into a nearby hotel and inquired about good breakfast. Without hesitation, the staff recommended Tia Maria. We called in advance to get a table reservation outdoors. After we arrived, we waited for a few minutes to...be seated. We felt safe sitting outside in this pandemic environment and all staff wore a mask. I ordered the Portuguese breakfast with eggs and was very satisfied with it. It came with a egg custard, which surprised me. I expect desserts for lunch and dinner but never breakfast! The food was great and the portion more than what I need. I am a 5'8'' 165# male and I eat sensibly. I broke the food into two meals.More

Best breakfast/lunch in the city. Portuguese burger with sunny side egg is unreal. Some try and play it as they are the original but Tias is it. Can’t miss on anything you order here. Can get in and out for less then 20$. Off cobblestones...in beautiful downtown. Got to get there!!More

We stopped in for lunch before visiting the Whaling Museum and was somewhat disappointed. I ordered the Chourico and chips expecting a wonderfully spicy delicious sausage with crispy rodelas (hand sliced potatoes). The sausage was nice and hot, and the bun was great, but unfortunately...the poor old sausage was somewhat dry and not very spicy, and the rodelas were a little chilly. The "Specialty Sandwich" would have been much better if it had a nice sauce at a minimum. I'm not sure that I would venture back to try any of the other lunch selections.More

Breakfast food is good, although the menu is fairly limited to eggs, breakfast meats, and potatoes in all the different forms. Nothing like a pancake, waffle, or french toast. Worth a visit. I’m told people line up when the weather is nice in the weekends....It was cold and windy on our visit and there was no wait when we arrived or left between 8-930am on a Saturday morning.More

I have gone for breakfast many times and I just love the food especially the home fries. I also love the fact they make me a decaf cappuccino with almond milk. Yummy.
