My wife and I shared the cod cake and quahog appetizers. The cod cake was delicious, but the stuffed quahog had too much stuffing for my liking. The entrees however were outstanding. My wife's broiled scallops were savory and sweet. They were accompanied with delicious round potato fries and steamed broccoli. My seafood paella was massive chock full of seafood -- tasty clams, lobster, mussels, scallops and shrimp. It was served piping hot and also had beef and chicken in it. I also had a side order of the round potato fries. We also enjoyed an affordable Casal Garcia Vinho Verde. Portions were quite large; our server Delilah was extraordinary and the food quality was remarkable. Can't wait to get back here and enjoy this amazing cuisine.

First off, when you walk into a food & drink venue, and it’s packed with local families who are obvious “regulars”, you know it’s good. Highly recommend this spot!!!!! Comfortable, if smaller, excellent family friendly service. BIG MENU, with lots to choose from and definitely Portuguese cooking. Portions are HUGE! Unless you are used to eating 5-6 lbs. of food at one sitting, choose carefully! Our dinner consisted of little necks in garlic, lemon, and saffron seasoning-beautiful. A lobster croquet, perfectly seasoned and hand made, for starters. Red Portuguese vineyard wine & cold Sam Adams beverages. Main course: I had their version of surf & turf: 16 oz sirloin done a perfect medium rare, scallops and shrimp in a delicious sauce, with hand cut fries and saffron rice. (Half of it is in my refrigerator now, and I can eat!) My wife ordered Pork Meat Ribatejana. This was a larger serving than mine and could easily feed 3-4! Marinated pork stewed with littlenecks and shrimp. Topped with cubed fried potatoes, all served in a 3qt pot steaming hot, with saffron sauce. OH. MY!!!! Go. So worth it! .

Antonio's is in one of the old New Bedford neighborhoods and off the tourist track - definitely a long-standing, local family restaurant. Wonderful, warm feel. Simple, basic interior. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful. Everything we had was very, very good and the portions were enormous. One friend said his seafood stew ranked in his top 5 meals ever - and he's a world traveler.

There is decent parking across the street but be careful which spot you choose; we were blocked in and had to drive off a curb. But, the location is quaint and looks homey and warm from the outside. Inside it was bustling, noisy and a little loud but in a sort of fun way, like a bunch of people having fun. The service is prompt but also tired and a little salty... almost grumpy. They certainly are not welcoming or warm or trying to make you want to linger. The menu has all the options but the focus seemed to be on the fish. The chicken looked frozen and kind of sad. The french fries are not salted, the potatoes are bland and the sardines are unseasoned...but they were grilled perfectly. The portions of everything are obnoxiously large, especially the sardines and the unseasoned broccoli. Not a person at our table could finish even half of their meal. I am not sure how they can give so much food but you will not be hungry AND the prices are fantastically reasonable.

First time visitors to New Bedford, and we wanted to try a Portuguese restaurant. Antonio's had great reviews, so that is where we went. It is a very popular local restaurant - it was packed when we arrived. The Paella arrived quickly after we ordered it. It was loaded with seafood, but very salty. It was unlike other Paella dishes we had in the past, very broth. When we finished the meal, our waitress came back, and we ordered dessert and water. When our waitress came back again, she just put our bill on the table - no dessert, no water. Have never had that happen before. Not recommended.

Although most reviewers on this site and others, write glorious reviews about good service, delicious food, over the top portion size and reasonable prices and give a 5 star rating, I must be the exception. Average, at best. Yes, the portions are large and the service good. The Antonio's chicken and shrimp Mozambique was far from special. The chicken chunks were dry unless doused in the sauce. Canned shrimp was larger in size than the 3 puny, shelled shrimp in the dish. The predominant taste in the sauce was pepper. The sardines came with a sauce which was absolutely bland and the accompanying broccoli, albeit a good portion, needed a bit more cooking. The stalks were inedible they were so tough. Prices are higher than other Portuguese restaurants that deserve 5 star ratings and serve equally large portions. When back in the area, a return visit may be in order. Could be this was just an off day.

Though it was a weekend evening, we were early enough to be seated right before a long line formed. Obviously a popular spot, the facility has a comfortable local eatery atmosphere. Our server, Maria, was informative and attentive. We enjoyed the T-bone with baked stuffed shrimp, and the sautéed seabass filet with shrimp. Both were well-prepared and flavorful. The accompanying rice was very good, as was the broccoli; with the fried potatoes decent. The concluding rice pudding had an interesting flavor, though not a variation we prefer. As many have noted, the portions are quite ample; with the prices quite reasonable. We certainly had enough leftover for later enjoyment. We would definitely return, if again in the area; as there were numerous tempting selections on the menu we would like to try.

We have not been to a restaurant since February of 2020, and started at the Tia Maria on North Winter Street. They were not serving in the late afternoon, but Edwardo (Tia Maria partner) offered to show us Antonio's. We followed him there. The food and service were excellent. Rosa explained the Paella for Two, and we ordered that with kale Soup. We enjoyed the ambiance and had ample distance from other diners. The flan was equally good, but the connection with Edwardo and the excellent food made the stay in New Bedford memorable. Great experience.

My friend’s family came to the US from the Azores. They settled in New Bedford. Many more Azoreans did that as well. Thus, there is a Portuguese community in the area. I wanted to try some local Portuguese cuisine; so, my friend suggested Antonio’s. It was fun. We tried kale soup, stuffed quahog, codfish cakes, cacoila, littlenecks in tomato broth, rice pudding and flan. Oh my. BIG portions and very good.

Excellent food and service. Variety of different foods, many with a Portuguese flair. We were there on a weekday night, and it was full. On weekends, I would expect a significant wait time. Large portions. We split an entre. With a salad it was plenty. Definitely worth a stop.

Great authentic Portuguese food. Ordered Petingas (little fried sardines) and were excellent. Bacalhau à Gomes de Sa, excellent. Feijoada, excellent. The restaurant is nice enough and the service correct, but the good food makes up for that. Last but not least bill was very reasonable! Under $80 with dessert, wine, coffee!

Wonderfully flavored food in oversized portions. Great family atmosphere with a true authentic Portuguese feel. Started with a wonderful bottle of Portuguese wine (photo). Main course included (all have photos) 1. Baked Salmon with homemade chips, green beans&carrots. Salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Chips were too good and all gone. Green beans and carrots were el Dente. 2. Chicken Antonio and Shrimp. Tasty Mozambique sauce that made the whole dish. Enough leftovers for two days! 3. Pork alentejana: smaller size pieces of pork in a super tasty saffron gravy. In the dish was also little neck clams (plentiful), and potatoes which get better the longer they sit in the gravy. 4. Rib alentejana: very much the same dish a the pork (#3 above) but larger pieces of pork and good sized shrimp. Way too much food for one. We ended with salted caramel cheesecake and caramel flan….both were fantastic. The flan seemed homemade. Also ended with espresso and decaf cappuccino. Such a great experience. Will always be back.

We read all of the positive reviews and decided to give Antonio's a try. We definitely left disappointed. Appetizers: Did the Lobster Croquettes actually have lobster? Maybe - the filling was just a mushy paste overpowered by the spice blend. Same with the Quahogs. Main course: I had the stuffed shrimp. The "stuffing" was mushy and over spiced/salty. I scrapped it off the last few shrimp - I just couldn't do any more. The shrimp themselves were good sized. Someone at the table ordered the Paella for one to split. It was huge - glad we didn't order the Paella for Two. Service: average - wait staff was attentive and the kitchen turned the food out quickly.

The Paella was magnificent! The salmon excellent! I can highly recommend for the seafood. We just happened to be in the area and are quite glad it was recommended to us.
