About
Evoking memories of bountiful “Sunday Suppers” where families gathered around the table to share recipes passed down from generation to generation, Millie’s Old World Meatballs & Pizza is bringing that same convivial feeling of a close knit Italian family to everyone. Millie’s is a restaurant rooted in one family’s commitment to preserving the “Old World” in terms of recipes and traditions but steps into the “New World” with modern ambiance and décor.Named after their grandmother Millie, the restaurant is the brainchild of two brothers seeking to share their passion for Italian food and celebration of the Italian culture of their heritage. “We were fortunate to grow up in a family that respects Italian traditions and by opening Millie’s, we want to share our love of culinary classics like meatballs and pizza” note the Brothers. The team behind Millie’s is passionate about pizza, both the coal-fired and the Neapolitan styles. Thanks to “dueling ovens”, pies from both varieties are offered. Inspired by childhood visits to Totonno’s, the legendary Coney Island pizzeria, the coal oven burns over 1,000 degrees and can produce pies in five minutes. The signature Millie’s pie combines sautéed tomatoes with fresh mozzarella and a sprinkling of parmesan. The Neapolitan wood oven, hand built by Italy’s celebrated Ferrara family, and imported from Naples, cooks pizzas, such as the Margherita, in just 90 seconds thanks to the intense 800 degree heat.Fried meatballs were a holiday tradition with family members waiting all day for the beef balls to come out of the frying pan. Fortunately, customers at Millie’s can order from the Fried Meatball station and Cheese bar at any time. Drawing upon Grandma Millie’s recipe, guests can choose to have their meatballs on platters, heroes (with fresh Italian Bread) or even in takeaway “Bag of Balls.” No matter the method, one constant is the side of marinara sauce for dipping. Just as baked meatballs are considered unacceptable at Millie’s, so is the mixing of balls and sauce. Each order of meatballs will be accompanied by a bowl of ricotta and marinara sauce for dipping. While the food is firmly rooted in the traditional, the décor will be modern. One wall of the 4200 square foot space will be exposed brick while mosaics of grey and black tiles decorate the surrounding surface. Red accents and dim lighting contribute to the sleek, lounge like ambiance. Guests can grab a booth while they sip a beverage of their choice (the restaurant will be BYOB). In warm weather, outdoor seating will be on offer.Neapolitan Wood Fired Oven PizzaMillie’s Old World features a Stefano Ferrara oven which was built by hand in Italy and shipped by sea. The oven is made from volcanic stones from Mount Vesuvius. This 100% wood fired oven allows us to cook pizza in 90 seconds due to its constant 900 degree temperature. Our pizza is made with only soft grain Caputo flour “00”, water, all natural fresh yeast, sea salt, the finest tomatoes, and our home made fresh mozzarella prepared each morning. Our flour is imported from Italy and is world renowned for being able to produce an extremely light elastic chewy crust. Unlike flours used in most “American pizza,” our flour is free of malts and preservatives. The wheat grains go through 21 milling processes to give it a unique silky smooth texture. Our tomatoes are much less acidic and have a fresher taste then paste “tomato sauce.” In order to ensure Millie’s masters the art of this specialty type of pizza, our family and head chef has been trained and certified by one of the most respected Pizzaiolo’s in the world.Coal Fired PizzaMillie’s Old World Coal Fired Mosaic Oven gives the pizza a unique smoky flavor and a crisp crust that is just not possible with gas, convention, or a wood oven. As a family, knowing the coal fired oven is a unique art, we wanted to ensure that future generations will be able to experience this distinct pizza we enjoyed growing up in Brooklyn and Staten Island. This oven requires an exceptional amount of commitment and skill. A coal fire is much more challenging to start and is more difficult to manage than a wood fire or gas burner. Coal has roughly twice the heat/energy potential of wood so accessing and managing its potential energy when and where you need it can be challenging. Unlike a wood fire, a coalfire will not let you stir its fire or move it around without consequence. Balancing the open flame of a coal fire with the intensity of the coal bed becomes the daily challenge. As a family we have specialized for years on producing some of the best gourmet pies we believe are the best in the world.

We went early (5:30) on a rainy night and only one other couple was in the place. Even so, we were there for 5 minutes before the waitress finally tossed down the menus on the table (couldn't even bother to give each of us one). I had a bottle of wine (it's BYO) and it's a good thing I had my own corkscrew because the waitress certainly didn't when she brought two small dollar-store wine glasses for our hearty red wine. We ordered antipasta and meatball marinara parm platters. It came about 10 minutes later and I had to ask if we got bread (which we would have liked 10 minutes earlier with our wine). "Oh, yeah," she replies and goes to get some. We finished without another visit from the waitress. Just in time too as a party of 9 yelling & screaming kids and 6 adults descended on the place, thereby ending any consideration of coffee or dessert. Food was fine. Judgement: better for takeout than eating there.

The pizza at Millie's is very good, as was the salad we ordered . My husband had the meatballs and said they were just ok. However, the service was very disappointing. I really hate to write a poor review about a small business, especially as a former server myself, but it was so lackluster it was noticeable and I must share. When I arrived with my son in a stroller, there were five staff members huddled around the host stand and they just watched me struggle with the front door instead of helping me open it. Then no one greeted us, they just kind of stared. I asked for a table and they acted as if they didn't want to sit us because "we didn't have a reservation," but it was 5 pm and only 2 other tables were taken. Just very disappointing. The manager was very kind to us but the staff acted like we were an inconvenience. Really too bad.

Tried this place with relatively high hopes. It wasn’t what we hoped for. The service was good along with the atmosphere. We tried the meatball appetizer. That was a swing and a miss. The meatballs were somewhat burnt. But more then that they weren’t very good. Not a hell of a lot of flavor. The pizza was better but nothing to write home about. There’s a Italian joint about 1/2 block down the street. I would be more apt to try that next time.

This is not Italian food. The meatballs are burnt, meaning black and charred. When we pointed this out to our server, they did not care. We pointed out how the meatballs were burnt and not supposed to be burnt. The server said that that is how Millie makes them. I am Italian, and my culture invented this cuisine. Meatballs are never ever ever supposed to be burnt. Plus, the meatballs had zero taste. Then all of the servers go in the back to the kitchen to hang out, because clearly that is more interesting than doing their jobs. I have no idea who Millie is, but she should be ashamed of herself. Terrible service, disgusting food. Never again.

The restaurant uses very nice ingredients and makes a delicious pizza. We had the meatballs with vodka sauce and they were very good – but nothing out of the ordinary from just a good meatball. The Italian sausage on the pizza was the sweetest sausage I’ve ever tasted. The salads are nice although $3.75 for a small 8 ounce bottle of Coca-Cola is a rip off. We also noticed that the music was a little bit loud at lunchtime – giving it kind of the feeling you were walking into a Hollister store at the mall. Overall we enjoyed our meal quite a bit and although you will pay a premium price, we would recommend it.

We had dinner before a show at the Mayo, location is great for pre-show. After being ignored by the front desk for a bit we told to "take a table" with no menu or QR code to scan for menu. Wait staff was fine but watching the clean-up on other tables, I didn't see any sanitizing, just new plates/utensil set-up. Food came quickly and so did the gnats.

Millie's Old World has both coal fired pizza and wood fired pizza. Both options are incredible. The wood fired variety is a bit softer while the coal fired really chars the crust nicely. There are so many good options here you can't go wrong. Service is great, we didn't have a problem.

I had read a good review in the local paper and my husband and I decided to check this restaurant out. It was a beautiful night and we sat inside but the front doors ( think garage doors ) were up and it felt like we were sitting outside - it was a little quieter and more private than sitting at the tables on the sidewalk. First we ordered two meatballs and a dozen chargrilled oysters. Both appetizers were delicious. The oysters had a little bit of a kick but I certainly wouldn’t consider them spicy. For dinner we ordered a wood-fired pepperoni and garlic pie, and a coal-fired pesto pie. Both were excellent, with wonderful slightly crispy crusts. We didn’t finish our pizzas and saved room for dessert. Wow, was I glad we did! The Orange Creamsicle Pie - vanilla and orange ice cream with a graham cracker crust and Tortoni -amaretto ice cream topped with toasted macaroon crunch were wonderful. Our waitress was friendly and the service was great. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I have ordered takeout pizza from Millie's for years. My last order was a bit late, so I called for a status update. To make a long story short, the delivery driver insisted that he delivered to the right address but agreed to re-deliver. Shortly after, I received a call from a manager who told me that the driver would attempt to re-deliver the pizza to my address, but if the driver's GPS took him to the same address he delivered to previously, the police would be called. I was shocked that the manager, instead of asking me to help identify my house so that the pizzas could be delivered, would tacitly accuse me of stealing pizzas and threaten me with a call to the police. It turns out that the delivery driver made an innocent mistake by delivering the initial order to the wrong house. I never received a call from the manager apologizing or offering to refund my order (delivery was made 2 and a half hours after I ordered).

The worst possible experience. The general Manager Peter Martinez would not refund me for the overcharged prices as the menu is misleading.....as well as did not get all my food ordered! DO NOT recommend

My husband and I ordered in from Millie's yesterday. Their Arcadia salad was very good ...BUT their 'fresh spinach pizza' was disgusting. I'd love to use another word, but disgusting fits the bill. We opened the pizza box for the big reveal: a small soggy dough...with spinach leaves all over it drizzled with balsamic vinegar. It was like somebody bought a crappy pie do-it -yourself pie crust, opened up a bag of spinach leaves from the supermarket and dumped it haphazardly on top. I kid you not. Where was the parmagiana reggiana; where was the fig spread, etc??? The written description did not at all match what we received. Just a soggy soggy crust with leaves. Not acceptable. And we paid a lot of money for this poor excuse for a pizza, too. We had hoped to love your restaurant- but we were very disappointed instead. 👎👎👎

I travel a lot for work and found myself south of Morristown, NJ. Before I left my job site I looked up pizza spots nearby and was skeptical because of the rating on Yelp. The look of the pies online appeared to be legit so I figured I’d take a leap of faith and give it a shot. Pizza ranges from little caesars to authentic pies and everyone has their specific opinion of what is “good”. For me, wood fire Neapolitan pizza is THE BEST. When I find a place that I want to give a chance I order the basic and if the basic passes then I will proceed with the intricate. Millies in Morristown passed on my judgement for the basic margherita. I went on a quiet afternoon with no one really there, sat inside because it was deathly hot, and was tended to quickly, politely, and enthusiastically - my godly looks, smooth talking, and wicked expensive cologne may or may not have played a role in this but you can just SIT DOWN IN THE BACK KAREN! First judgement comes from the appearance of the crust: bulging, crispy, and more enticing than my prom date in junior high school. I ripped it open to see the innards and was pleasantly surprised. First bite, crust only, and surprisingly I tasted salt …. not in a bad way …. it was perfectly balanced and delightful, mixing dough and salt taste that was gloriously delicious. One issue with pies like this is that the crust can be stellar but then the middle can lean towards soggy but impressively these slices had body. Not overpowering but just enough to hold it’s form when lifted, folded, and deep throated, I mean bit. WOW. How did I fall upon this gem randomly NO THANKS TO THE NEGATIVE YELP REVIEWS??!!?!?!!?! Then I judge the sauce and cheese. Sauce, slightly sweet but perfectly balanced, tasting tomato, olive oil, and salt. The cheese was subtle but flavorful incorporating the dough, sauce, and slight shake of red pepper flakes I added. I was beyond pleased… ONE CRITIQUE is that the crust was not 1,000% fluffy, a little dense but still a delight. I often intertwine the service, decor, and general experience whilst dining and since this was a slow time I will admit that I cannot attest to the majority of that but being on a little main street and lucking out with parking, my overall rating is 4 stars and I will most certainly be back with my wife to see if you can pass under her standards as well. Really great job from this place.

One of best restaurants for pizza both coal and wood fire pizza. Their salads are five star, recommend the Arcadian and the wedge salad. Don’t forget to order the meatballs.
