Today we ate at Sandi’s for lunch. Remember, this is southern soul food cooking so don’t be in a rush while Chef Sandi prepares your meal, just sit back and enjoy this colorful restaurant; the food is worth the wait. My wife ordered the Little...DeeDee with Fried Chicken and sides of Mac & Cheese and Green Beans and loved them all. The flavor of the cooked green beans reminded her of childhood days on her grandfather’s farm in Kentucky. I had my first Fried Catfish which was delicious. The servers showed us that warm and friendly southern hospitality you don’t often see in NJ. Too bad they don’t have Lamb Fries on the menu, but most people don’t know what they are and I’m not telling. My wife and I both recommend trying Sandi’s.More

We’ve been here twice and absolutely love it. Decor is bright, spacious and colorful. Yummy fresh baked soul bread, biscuits, fried chicken and sides! Must try the hush puppies as well. We highly recommend it!

If you’re in the area it would be in your best interest to stop by and taste the food. I wish they were open on Sundays because I would frequent them more. When I did go the food was delicious.

Always like to support neighborhood restaurants so went to ty Sandis. Food came Out cold, portion sizes ridiculous. Order the ribs, you don’t get a portion you get one rib. Soul bread actually came To table burnt. One food item brought to table at a...time sometimes waiting 10-15 minutes between items. Took over 1 hour to receive the first item of jerk chicken wings which came to the table I’ve cold. One person in our party Never got fed at all, others were missing items-horrible. What a shame.More

Hi Melissa, we apologize for the experience you had at Sandi's. Our servings are portion sized, which is the concept behind the original Soulbites meal and grabbing a “bite” to eat. On our Menu, the meats are a la carte, and states the price per...More

Opening day today and I decided to try (against my better judgment). Called the phone number and got a voicemail saying they were still under renovations. Knew that wasn't true because they just emailed me that they were open! So I walked across from my...office and got in line for takeout. The place definitely passes the eye test--bright, cheerful, friendly vibe with wicked good music in the background. But there was confusion. Mass confusion. They didn't even know if the line should pay first and then pick up food order, or order first and then pay. Granted, they were installing a new payment system, but it was obvious the cashier had never been a cashier before. So, 15 minutes to order. OK, opening day. I get it. I ordered the "Vegetarian Plate," which on their menu says you pick four side orders instead of a main course--my plan was to avoid the obvious backup for the fried chicken and ribs. However, "Vegetarian Plate" wasn't in their ordering system. Luckily, they had a tech guy there who put it in the system, so at least I helped them with that. Now all I needed was to get my food. The candied yams and curried potato salad were ready to go. The mac 'n cheese and collard greens were not. They said 10 minutes. So I waited. 15 minutes later, they said 10 more mins for mac & cheese. I believe in fresh food, but who doesn't make their opening day mac 'n cheese a day ahead so they're ready? Ugh. Staff was smiling and trying the whole time--almost trying too hard, as it seems like they had literally the entire crew working and no place for them to fit behind the counter. Finally settled on cole slaw and got my greens and ran. Without the "sould bread" I had paid for, because that wasn't ready either. I hope you're still reading because it gets better. ; - ) 45 minutes of frustration did not have me in much of a mood to enjoy. But a few bites into the potato salad and the cole slaw, and I was hooked. This Sandi definitely knows what she's doing. The greens took me off guard because they weren't what I was used to. 1/2 a cup in, I was hooked. The yams were simple but elegant. The cole slaw--where I am usually very picky--won me over from the start. And the potato salad was the most unique of all. I think I saw peas in there! Portions were big enough to fill me for a lunch, and as their motto says, you could taste that it was made with love. So count me in as a fan, but please--figure out a game plan in terms of logistics and hire a few more experienced restaurant folks to help things go smoothly. I'll see you at Sandi's in a couple of weeks!More
