I live in Lawrenceville. I visited Hoghlander a few years ago and grabbed a burger. It was the best burger I ever had. As far as I could tell, it was your basic cheeseburger with standard condiments. Back in Atlanta. Highlander has not changed a bit. Funky atmosphere with by far some of the best and creative food in the city. Very proactive during these Covid times. Service, food and cocktails were all first class
We ate here with friends as we needed a quick bite. The appetizers were all phenomenal and a great selection . I had the Kari Kari or fried potstickers and they were excellent. The fried pasta-rela sticks were hot and crispy as well. I had...the Highlander burger which was excellent. Juicy, hot and perfection.My guest had the beef stroganoff which was creamy and filling. Service was on point thankfully but my only complaints were lack of outside lighting( on the patio area) where we ate. Very cavelike but it had scads of potential. The inside lighting needed an upgrade too!The men’s room on the other hand was a scene from a horror movie. Yes I know it a biker bar, neighborhood bar, dive bar but thankfully I walked over to the Trader Joe’s next door as I wasn’t in the mood to “ catch” something unsavory there. All in all, worth a return visit!More
The food was amazing & service was excellent!! The Beer selection is great the ambiance is wonderful !! Game room a pleasant surprise!! Pin ball machines ( Iron Maiden being one of them 😃) and my fav Galaga etc !! Definitely a hard rock attitude...!! Don’t worry the game room machines aren’t but .25 cents to a dollar !! We visit Atlanta a couples times a year & some how missed this place yet we will definitely be back !! Chicken fried steak is by far the best chicken fried steak I’ve EVER had !! Been going for years. The food is always outstanding. But lately the service not so much. Used to be stellar but now the dinner crew doesn't seem to care anymore. Pity.
The Highlander has a good selection of beers and pub food. I really liked their Natchos. Enjoy the covered outdoor seating on their patio. The people were nice.
They have cheap beers, delicious and not necessarily healthy food and it is dark and smokey. Sometimes that is exactly what you need, and The Highlander does it extremely well.
Visited at 11pm after visiting the Atlanta Botanical Gardens to see the lights, we wanted something to eat after walking the beautiful paths in the garden. The first impression is of a dark rock bar with a heavy smoke smell. I liked the decoration very...much and was greeted and seated immediately, they ask everyone for id. We ordered chicken wings and a pastrami reuben with a couple of local draft beers. The food was good and our overall experience was very good, the most notable drawback is that you can smoke inside, so the smoke smell is pretty intense and people light up besides you, when we got yo our hotel the smoke smell in our clothes and hair was very intense.More
If there were half stars I'd go for 3.5 because this is a really great place. The food is inexpensive and really excellent. Definitely several grades above bar food. They have a good selection of beers on tap and the prices are very fair. They...support underground artists and the walls are covered in amazing pieces for sale. Horror-themed art, mostly, which I love. It's a a great music venue. We were visiting a friend in Atlanta and we were there twice during our stay. The first for dinner and drinks on my birthday and the second to see Valkyries, a local band. On the venue side my boyfriend had an issue where the bartender cut him off for no reason. Well, her reason was that he didn't say "please" when he ordered. I have known my share of bartenders and I understand you can have a bad night but to cut someone off for this means you're in a mood, especially when the person wasn't rude to you. We also saw her leave the bar area heard her go laugh and brag about this to her circle of female friends like it was something to be proud of because he's cisgendered. Lots of people placed an order and I know that no one was else was saying "please". You singled him out for whatever reason. Play the mistress role elsewhere, he's my boyfriend and you have no right to say to any customer, "say please" just because his order interrupted your making out with your girlfriend. Know your place, you're still at work. Anyway, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as a venue because she was the only jerk we encountered though it may be several more years before I'm back in Atlanta.More
Came in with friends for a bite to eat and drinks. Super low key atmosphere - which was exactly what we were looking for! We grabbed a seat inside the bar, although they have a really nice patio, sat at a booth and were able...to have a great conversation and laugh without feeling like we needed to shout across the room. No reservation was needed, we were able to seat ourselves, the food and the price were great. There is plenty of free parking but the parking lot itself can be quite busy. I will definitely come back in and would recommend to anyone looking for a good, relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a beer or two and some tots!More
We stopped in for lunch because we saw they were on Diners Drive ins and Dives. Our food was very good and the beer was cold.
I love a good dive bar and this is one of the best. The atmosphere and food are fabulous. A friend of mine used to live nearby and be a regular. I'm so glad he suggested this place.
Just moved to the neighborhood and was very excited to find the spot that would replace my 18 year go to place in NYC. Unfortunately this will not be the spot. They do everything right, cool vibe, interesting menu and a nice draft selection; unfortunately...they allow smoking. A loop hole allows this - too bad. Won’t be back. Wise up, less than 17% of the population smokes.More
Ok, it looks a bit sketchy and I had trouble finding the door, but I was glad I went in. Interior is dark and could be smoky. Lots of regulars here, which is a good sign. I sat in the back at a tall table...and had the pork bhan mi and someone else had the chicken fajita lasagna. Both were DELICIOUS!!! I asked about the different sauces and the cook came and spoke to me personally. We also had the pastarella appetizer. Yummo. If you get a chance to go, go. Do not be put off by it's looks. I can see why it is a local favorite, as I would hang there often if I lived there.More
The drinks are outstanding, the food is exquisite, the service is fast and friendly and the room is unique. I ordered a Pimms Cup, a drink you rarely find anywhere, it was perfect. This is a unique dive bar, offering fine dining with a cosmopolitan...drink menu. It has been in the neighborhood for 25 years and doing things right. Happy trails.More
