A friend saw good reviews on Yelp and suggested we go there for lunch.
Using the Yelp app, a reservation was made.
Upon arrival, the person said they didn’t know about our reservation.
When we said it was made on Yelp, they said they don’t use that anymore.
We are in a pandemic and they have limited seating but there weren’t that many people there so reservations weren’t necessary.
Since it was Sunday, there were no lunch specials.
The waiter brought us waters and gave us the menus then walked away.
He didn’t explain that he had given us a special menu and that it was printed in Chinese, which neither of us could read.
The Hot and Sour soup was neither hot nor sour.
Surprisingly, there were carrots in the soup too, which changes the flavor of soup when eaten with it.
The Shredded Pork with Bamboo was too salty for me but my friend thought it was fine.
We did agree that the Smoked Crispy Duck had good flavor but was not that crispy.
The crispness was similar to that of a cookie wafer – hard enough to be considered crispy but not hard enough to be named Crispy Duck.
I guess the duck was not fried long enough?
While we proceeded to eat, I realized that we didn’t have any tea.
I also realized that the waiter didn’t offer tea which is odd since it IS a Chinese restaurant.
Most Chinese restaurants serve tea automatically and ask if you want water as well.
We motioned for the waiter to come over so we can ask for some tea.
He returned with tea cups and an insulated pitcher.
This is different than other Asian restaurants.
When the bill came, we saw that the tea was extra charge which the waiter didn’t mention.
The prices were on the pricey side especially for the quality of the food and service.
Given what we spent on that lunch, there are much better places to eat, even around the same plaza.

While out this Saturday my friend was telling me about his good experience here so we came for lunch.
The place is nicely appointed and though crowded not noisy and the service was quick and efficient. The staff was very helpful with our questions and explaining the items.
The food was excellent! Our hot and sour soup had a lighter base that others but was flavorful. The spring roll very good.
BUT the calamari was hands down the best I have ever had! Fried with a light tempura breading with no oily taste. The squid was cooked perfect not chewy or rubbery at all. The bell pepper onions green onion salt and pepper sauce was to die for. This is a must try item!
Our lunch I had the Home made Noodle with chicken. (chicken was not on the menu but they subbed it for me). My friend had the Stir Fry Flay noodle with beef. We both loved the dishes and both had over half our plate home as the portion was a good size, and we did have an appetizer.
We will definitely return.

We have tried to support our local restaurants through Covid and certainly have ordered from J. Bistro on several occasions out of convenience. The food is only average to below average, but tonight I experienced terrible customer service. I ordered Dan Dan noodles which were supposed to have vegetables, seafood, and pork. I asked for no pork. When I opened my meal there was no pork as requested but no anything else. I called and they said I would need to drive to their restaurant to exchange it. It was their mistake, and I have no intention of driving back to their restaurant. I would never order from this restaurant again. I recommend avoiding this restaurant.
