It was a Tale of Two Cities event at Miller Union…it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Some aspects were spectacular, while a few were unacceptable. Give yourself a few extra minutes when you arrive for the valet to assist, there was a bit of a traffic jam for us, but everyone was patient and when the one attendant final approached, he gave us the procedure of using a text message system to call for the car when finished inside. I liked that procedure. The restaurant has several rooms. After our “discussion” with the hostess, we were finally seated in the back room, it was nice, but felt a little diner-ish, a little claustrophobic, we would have preferred a different room. We ordered the farm egg baked in celery cream, which some have described as iconic, plus the newly added shrimp toasts for our starters and the tilefish and pork shoulder for our entrees. Interesting to note that the restaurant did not offer, nor bring bread to the table. The great and the ugly. • The shrimp toasts were spectacular. From the delicious bread, the spread on the bread, the shrimp to the toppings, this was one of the best dishes I have eaten in Atlanta, it was THAT good. I give this a 10+. • The egg…here is where I will disagree with almost everyone. It was a complete disappointment, Emperor’s new clothes time. It was a runny baked egg in cream, no other flavors, no celery hint at all. I understand it was looking for simplicity to highlight the natural, farm fresh flavors, but very disappointing. I give this a 3. • The tilefish was also spectacular. The fish was beautifully crisped on one side, moist throughout and accompanied by fantastic farm fresh vegetables. Each of the components complemented the others. I give this a 10. • The pork shoulder was inedible. It was served in bits and pieces, and my first bite was a mouthful of burnt, my second was a bite of fat and the third a combination of one and two. All were over the top salty. I informed the server and he was quick to remove and I ordered the tilefish as a replacement. I give the pork shoulder a 0. • Chocolate cremeaux for dessert was very good. Rich, creamy, chocolate-y and served with a nice scoop of ice cream. I give this an 8. Service: • Serving staff –Our server and the entire support staff at the table were fantastic from start to finish. Friendly, helpful, spot on throughout the meal. The epitome of great service. A perfect 10. • Hostess – A very rough day for the hostess and she took it out on us. We were close to leaving but the great servers intervened and saved the night. No rating.

We arrived with a family gathering of 11 people. Even though we kept switching places at the table in order for different family members to catch up with each other, the waiter was able to recall who ordered which dish. The food was healthy and delicious. We ordered a wide variety of appetizers. My favorite was the kale salad with lemony dressing and the various dishes with exotic radishes. My New York strip steak was cooked to perfection. The four teenagers at the table were able to order fancy non-alcoholic drinks that they liked so much they ordered again and again.

I went here with a party of 5 and we had an amazing time. Our server was on top of everything and extremely attentive. He gave great recommendations to our wine pairings, and answered any questions we had in great detail. We are fans of the farm to table approach, and thought they did a great job. The confit duck leg and dry rubbed brisket entrees were phenomenal, but my favorite part of the night was the orange cake paired with rosemary ice cream. It was incredible.

Maybe one needs to calibrate your expectations when eating out in Atlanta but rather unmemorable experience. Pork chop arrived with a hair in it, I can understand this happens and they changed it, but would have expected an apology rather than the staff behaving as though this is a common occurrence. Dessert was the highlight, portions are too large so despite loving it I could not finish it - so not left wishing for more but feeling I had eaten too much. Staff is efficient but there is something to being allowed to finish your sentence rather than getting interrupted by the waiter who is cuts into the conversation to get your order. Oh well ....

Absolutely the loudest and most intrusive waitress ever in my life. I am incredulous that management hasn’t identified this and dealt with it. Over the top in her manner, so loud we could hear every word when she waited on another table at the other end of the place. She almost challenged us NOT to order starters “for the table” as she stated; told us when we said no thanks that the meal could take 30’ so we might want to order one!!! Presumptuous and perhaps not even well-meaning. Sort of a “killing you with kindness” hostility was how it felt. Food? Meh. Pretty darn good fried chicken but this entree (the cheapest) without sides was $25! Beet sides was great. My seafood meal was ok but just ok, less than what I expected at such a place. 2-3 shrimp, hardly any fish, some clams and a pretty Good sauce. Desserts were an embarrassment. Doubtful about their origin- ours tasted like it was bought 3 days earlier from a bakery and stored in the fridge, then added a smaller bit of ice cream and caramel sauce no doubt from a jar . All in all, I would not return but can see that they are actually making an effort to present “cuisine” in an upscale manner.

Won’t be going back. Not worth expense. The wait staff was snobbish , steak undercooked and tuff, very loud atmosphere and not worth the expense. Very disappointing but nice and friendly valet staff.

We’ve missed Miller Union and were so excited to return. They did an excellent job with their COVID protocols and we loved the less crowded dining room experience. The food was delicious from beginning to end, from the farm egg to dessert. You won’t be disappointed and we will be returning.

The food was impeccable, the owner was lovely and so was our server……but our experience was challenged be the behavior or the Sommelier. He was quite rude from the moment we sat down telling us the restaurant was busy and we should order. I hadn’t even gotten settled with my business guests. He then ordered appetizers we didn’t request. When we didn’t order the expensive wine he suggested he shrugged his shoulders and got the owner to “deal” with us. Thanks God he did because it corrected our experience. The food was just amazing so to have one person ruin it was just sad.

We had not been here before and were pleasantly surprised. The menu was thoughtful, the wines were good and fairly priced, and there were plenty of good choices on the menu. It is definitely a regional cuisine, and they pull it off quite well. It tends to get crowded and noisy, so be forewarned.

As out of towners, tried this place based on reviews. Upscale (reservations recommended). Well conceived and laid out dining room, knowledgeable, patient, well trained wait staff. No background music, a ;plus. Apps: house made humus, average. Hush puppies, done right. Lamb meatballs, tender, well flavored.. Entrees: Tile fish, broiled in butter, good crust, pistachio/grapefruit accompaniment, nice combo. Brisket a disappointment, not special and strangely salty. All in all, well set up, food beautifully presented, looks better than it eats.

So i'll summarize by saying we did have a good dinner. I know its hard for a restaurant with this much publicity to live up to the hype. We sat outside on a side patio, which was fairly nice but sort of a weird space. the wine list was extensive, but there werent many bottles under $75. our waiter was very professional and knowledgeable. he explained most everything and told us about how long our entrees would take which was nice, but it was presented almost as don't expect any better. when we told him we werent sure if we might want an appetizer, he told us basically we either had to order it right then, or it would not come out before the entree. again i appreciate the professionalism, but it almost felt it we were being told a set of rules. When im out for dinner, I want to just relax and chill! the menu was nice, and our entrees were good. I would recommend going, but i would not put it on my regular list.

Very nice ambiance, great service and a very nice Old World wine list. Also, great cocktails, especially the Miller Thyme! The appetizers were great and we enjoyed the fritters and the egg. The entree selection was outstanding- and we thoroughly enjoyed the Brisket and the Ravioli dish. This place is truly a hidden gem!

We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday and requested to be near a window. We were instead literally put in a hall with four, 2 person tables crammed side by side. Servers were walking behind my husband every few seconds. That was our first disappointment. Second…. Our server. He was in a rush all the time, seemed rude, and when we asked his name he said “I usually don’t give out my name… because…what’s the point”. Then he mentioned his name was Elliott. Service can make or break a meal and the server’s attitude, rushing around, and gruff disposition did not add up to a pleasurable experience for our special meal. Fortunately the food was great. We ordered the celery egg bread starter and while we read great reviews on that dish, we were disappointed in the lack of flavor. Everything else was wonderful. The pork belly, the field peas dish and the fried okra appetizers were wonderful. The flavors were unique and blended well together. We went with the server’s suggestion of chicken for the main dish (which I typically would never order at a restaurant), and while the setup accompaniments was wonderful, the protein was in the end…still chicken. Now while it was one of the better chicken dishes I have had, it is still almost impossible to add flavor to a white chicken breast. I have no doubt the other main dishes would have been wonderful. Overall, the food, which of course is the most important aspect of a meal, was wonderful, but the seating and server left us feeling disappointed in our overall experience.

Atlanta date night/Special occasion MUST! Miller Union is a beautiful environment. Arrive early have a drink at the bar-relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Way to unwind from the day. Take your dinner table seat and your service will exceptional. Menu has amazing choices. We loved appetizer section so much we ordered our dinner from just that section. Four wonderful plates fried mushroom, oysters Rockefeller, green salads & charcuterie platter with cheese. All the meets house made. As you order make sure to meet the wine master Princeton. Princeton is a wonderful person and talented sommelier who will bring all plates ordered the best wines to go with the meal. We had a great half bottle option. We finished with not to be missed deserts-We ordered chocolate mouse, my wife's favorite. Take your time with this cherish meal with loving company! P.S. Powerful spot for corporate dinners and events when doing business in Atlanta

We try to dine here at least once a quarter, and the experience has always been wonderful. We were here for their special New Year's Eve menu, which was great. But, we dined here more recently on a random night in early March, and the experience just reinforced what a special establishment MU is. The egg in celery cream is always a classic, but they have a couple of new dishes (a lamb appetizer and the pork scallopini) that were also well-received. There is also a new, Thai/southeast Asian style fish preparation that was delicious. The service is unfailingly professional and efficient and the sommelier Princeton is one of the best I've encountered anywhere in the United States. The wine list has a tremendous variety, and every suggestion he has offered has been spot-on. At this point, MU is an Atlanta institution, but it remains the best restaurant in the city.
