Enjoyed this restaurant. The service was friendly & efficient and knowledgeable. We particularly enjoyed the plantain cups. My husband had the Mahi Mahi which was the nightly special and I had the salmon. Both were prepared perfectly with nice vegetable complements. The Tres Leches and...Lava cake were a very nice end to a flavorful meal. We will return.More

Melaza Bistro has an interesting and varied menu of Caribbean dishes. We actually like the appetizers better than the entrees, and my wife made a dinner of Plantain Cups, Chicken Empanadas and Coconut Shrimp. I enjoyed my Skirt Steak. Our bottle of Torresella Pinot Grigio...was reasonably priced. One note - definitely make a reservation. We had a reservation for our dinner, and everything was fine. However, we were in Woodstock for three evenings, and one night, our dinner plans at another restaurant fell apart because of a foul-up with our reservation. We went back to Melaza and tried to be seated. Even though the restaurant had open tables, we were told that they could not seat us. Nor could we order dinner while sitting in the bar area (there is only a very limited bar menu). I assume that the problem was that they - like many restaurants - are short-staffed. Nevertheless, it was just the two of us, and I felt that we could have been accommodated.More

This was our first night in Woodstock and had booked the Melazza Bistro really not knowing what to expect. We were in for a real treat. It was quite busy and we sat upstairs. My wife and I started by sharing the Plantain cups. These...were excellent and so tasty. As there are 4 cups they are ideal to share. For the main course my wife had the pan roasted blackened salmon filet and I had the spicy Jamaican jerk all natural chicken breast. They were both excellent. I must say this is a great restaurant Woodstock.More

This was one of our favorite meals throughout our 2 week trip to New England. The food was superb. Starting with the empanadas (a not to be missed appetizer), to the pork shank and dessert. Drinks were good too. And the prices were very reasonable...given the level of the food. Service was excellent as well. I see other mixed reviews. Maybe it was because of when we were there and it was not that crowded, but this was definitely a place I would recommend and would visit again if I am ever back in Woodstock.More

Great food and excellent service. Enjoyed the variety of ways they use plantains in their recipes. We had the fried plantains with guacamole and salsa. I had jerk chicken with plantains included in the meal. Delicious!

Walked in, was greeted by a completely non interested host, was shown to a table between the loudest two groups of people, handed dirty laminated menus, we left. I was extremely disappointed and NOT sorry that we left.

Happy to say that Melaza Bistro was just as good as I remembered it from when I first dined there about 9 years ago. The chicken sofrito is awesome! The plantain chips and fresh guacamole only add to the enjoyment. Clean, casual and unassuming place,...friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.More

We enjoyed our dinner here. We selected a few small platters and most of the food was tasty and well seasoned. The only “weak” dish was the Caesar salad. It had little dressing and they used pieces of potatoes rather than croutons. Our waitress was...very nice, but she could not keep up with all the tables. This place really needs more servers. We felt badly for the waitress.More

The Food tasted great and the service was very good, however I was very shocked to see the bill. I realize food prices have increased but when a 6 oz piece of Skirt Steak was market priced at $42, that is just ridiculous. If I...go back I definitely wont he getting anything thats “market price” shame on me for not asking I suppose, but shame on them for pricing it so outrageous.More

Not at all what you expect when dining in the heart of Yankee New England. Our friends suggested this place and I was yearning for some Yankee style seafood, but this place REALLY delivers BIG Flavor. I guess its Puerto Rican/Cuban cuisine with emphasis on...intense flavors and non-greasy food. The extremely thinly sliced, fried plantain are a wonderment, served with guacamole which is just so much better than any other guac anywhere. Ditto for the citrusy salad dressing on the house salad. Pork shank was juicy and delish. Do NOT skip desserts. Hubby had a molten lava chocolate cake which was spicy with cinnamon - very Mexican. I had tres leches cake which was soaked in coconut flavor but was too rich to finish. We think there was just one waitress working the room, but she handled service to an entire room with grace and humor, we never waited for anything. The host kept popping out the front door to warn diners not to park too close to the corner or they would be towed. Parking is a problem in Woodstock on a busy Saturday night so allow extra time.More

Real Latin Cuisine flavors, great cocktails, excellent service (Maya) accompanied by a well chosen playlist. It could be tricky but NOT imposible to find a reservation in this beautiful restaurant because of their limited hours of operation but I followed their suggestions from their website...to call after 4:30 and email and I got answered in both ways. We had the skirt (Churrasco) with chimichurri that was to die for and the side dishes sweet plantains and yuca fries were a great compliment to my Caesar/Shrimp salad.More

We were lucky enough to get a last minute reservation (recommended by Heather at The Village in of Woodstock). Sat downstairs by the bar. The drinks were so good, waitstaff and bartender were fun and offered recommendations & conversation, food was so good and we...were even convinced to order dessert! It was a wonderful evening!More
