Today I was so embarrassed I had raved about how fantastic the food was at Eat Rice restaurant. My fellow works from the McGuires VA hospital could not wait to try the food. When the order arrived, the order was incorrect; we received nothing that we ordered, the food was tasteless, with none the favor or freshness of the food that once the restaurant was known. I don't know what has happened, but the restaurant has declined, and the food was awful. I will no longer recommend this food to anyone I like.

We are always looking for good Chinese food .. not easy to find in Richmond, especially for take-out. Friends had suggested Eat Rice. You come to accept that 'take-out-Chinese' food taste and think 'OK, it was filling' ... and that is exactly how we felt about Eat Rice. When calling we were excited about a new adventure and the lady on the phone was great and helpful. We ordered Shrimp Hunan and Shrimp Fried Rice (our standard) with 2 egg rolls. I swear I could not taste the difference in any of the food we got. The Hunan meal was suppose to be very spicy, it was not at all spicy in any way, and I would have defined all the food as bland. It was basically .... edible.

Eat rice is one of the only Chinese restaurants that delivers to our house. We have been ordering from them for years and they are always friendly, professional and generous with their portions. The quality of the food is typical of what you would expect for the price point. Sometimes a little extra greasy, yet sometimes twice as much as you anticipated receiving. We are never disappointed because we know what to expect. This is traditional Chinese American food. Again, not high quality but also nothing you would be afraid to eat. I would caution against ordering anything made with tofu as they use soft silken tofu and the texture is disgusting. If you are vegetarian, as we are, be sure to request that your meal is made with fried tofu. It will still be soft on the inside but at least it has some added firmness from the frying process.
