Great Italian Food

I have eaten at this restaurant dozens of times. The food is tasty and affordable, although this last time I noticed prices may have gone up slightly. I guess it’s a sign of the times as everything is going up. If you like garlic, you will love this place. Sautéed calamari is delicious along with chicken piccata, fettuccini carbonara and even broccolini swimming in garlic sauce. The atmosphere is typical of restaurants in the fan, small and dark. This is one of my go to restaurants. Laid back, good food.

Although I was a little concerned reading some of the earlier reviews, our visit was exceptional. Came on a Friday night with a group of six. While we only had two appetizers they were large. As to entrees, all of them were very good with the creamed spinach being spectacular. Sat on the second floor so had an overview of the kitchen. It was liking watching a ballet as the chefs prepared numerous dishes in a very small area. The service was also very good, especially considering being on the second floor. We will be back soon to try some other dishes. OUTSTANDING service, food, and prices were appropriate.

Sunday evening out in Richmond

We showed up with a party of six. I took a while to set up a table in a side room. But it was worth the wait. The special offer 2x Pasta plus a bottle of wine for $45 is great value for money. But all the other food we ordered was great as well. Definitely a place to come back to.

An negative experience.

My brother in law loves this place and had us excited to go. We made reservations a day ahead of time. We got there and we were told we could go upstairs or wait 15 minutes. We waited as my bro. in law says upstairs has no ambience. After we were seated we ordered drinks and appetizers. My appetizer arrived after the rest of the table had finished theirs. It was good though. They were getting their meals as I was finishing up. I had asked, before I ordered if the tomatoes listed as an ingredient on my choice were fresh. I was assured they were. I was asked if I wanted spaghetti or penne. I said spaghetti. My meal arrived. It was penne with the other listed ingredients and tomato sauce, not fresh tomatoes. When I saw it I started saying, "no, that's not mine" and I realized I was the only one at the table without their dinner, so, yeah, it was mine. I reminded the waitress I had asked for spaghetti and before I asked about the tomatoes she said, "I wrote down penne". Well, silly me. Then my brother in law said, "she really did say spaghetti" and she informed him, "Oh, I didn't say you were lying". That was that. She walked away. I can't eat marinara sauce but the rest of the table shared parts of their dinner. I was very disappointed in the food, but especially the service. We all make mistakes but the arrogance and rudeness went beyond making a mistake.

Cute restaurant, average food

The food was average, lacking flavor. My penne with a cream sauce lacked the cream. It was more of a flour and water mix with some cheese. My husbands dish was also lacking flavor. The $40 wine was worth about $10. We felt very rushed from the time we sat down till we left. They like to get you in and out to turntable table quickly. It’s the second time we e eaten there. The first time we had to change tables in the middle of the meal because someone had reserved our table. We won’t be going back. R

Used to love this restaurant

I am a Richmonder and have gone to Bacchus for almost two decades. Tonight I went to pick up take out and when I arrived the hostess said to pick up at the bar. I went to the bar and watched as the bartender, a woman such as I am, did not look at me and served (at least) eight other people. I finally left. This is nothing about the food, which I am sure is still excellent.

Casual corner location with AMAZING food!

We were looking for a good Italian dinner and were so delighted with the meal we had. When we arrived we were not sure because it seemed small and too casual but don't let that fool you. The food was so good and the service was fun. It is a local hangout and if you love good Italian, try it. Make a reservation and come hungry. The portions are huge. My wife and I should have shared the main course. Nice smaller wine selection too!

Birthday dinner during Covid-19. Good social distancing for such a small place. On-going take out. Extensive menu. Very generous portions. $15 bottles of wine. Would have liked pasta with meat entrees. Had leftovers good the next day.

Nice restaurant with good food

It’s a lively little restaurant with wonderful food, reasonably priced and large portions. I would highly recommend it. It’s not high end dining but it’s cozy and quaint. It has a decent wine list and a full bar.

You will truly enjoy dinner here. Small intimate restaurant with great service. Appetizers include white pizza, snails, smoked trout, calamari, and very large salads. The salads can be shared. Main courses include scallops, swordfish, duck breasts, veal, chicken picatta, salmon and Kobe beef burgers. Side dishes include kale, cauliflower, creamed spinach, baked zucchini and artichoke hearts. Fun evening with lots of very well prepared dishes.

Buon Appetito!

Bacchus is one of those restaurants that we always heard good things about, but never got around to enjoying, until this past Saturday night. My wife and I found ourselves in the city, enjoying some holiday festivities when we came across Bacchus. Bacchus is a small restaurant, which accepts reservations, which I recommend highly, as all tables were filled and the wait was over one hour, but we were lucky enough to find a couple of seats at the bar. After ordering some wine, we settled on our dinner selections. Spaghetti with Bolognese for me, and Mussels with white wine sauce for the wife. What we received were two huge portions. In hindsight, we could have split one meal! The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the Bolognese was full of beef and pork. Tasted just as good the next day as leftover lunch! I would highly recommend Bacchus to anyone looking for good, authentic Italian food at reasonable prices, but definitely make reservations. We will be back!

Feed a family of four for the price of two

The salads should have been a clue. More than generous, easily could have been shared. Love the approach to pasta: spaghetti or penne, then bring on the 27 sauces. I had the sun dried tomato spinach and almonds. Packed up 1/2 to go. All were pleased with entrees that were not pasta based. Nice, affordable wines to top off the experience. Attentive and responsive wait staff. Overheard another male diner state, “walked in normal, and feel like I’m leaving pregnant!” We walked out with enough leftovers for 2nd great meals.

Great if you can eat pasta

By all accounts this is a fantastic place for pasta. They offer a wide variety of sauces and each one is amazing. For those that can't, the menu is a bit limiting. I had the salmon. It was two huge pieces of fish, but it was very overdone. Another had the swordfish and the same story. We also tried an appetizer and were told it was GF, but it was not. The staff didn't seem to understand what gluten free really means. The bar looked like a nice place to hang out.

Great Food,Great Service, Great experiences!!!

Our friends introduced us to this amazing little restaurant. The food is truly wonderful. It is hot when meant to be and cold when meant to be.Everyone can find something on the menu. They have a lot of GF, sea food, VG and the ingrdients are fresh. Love the veggies and they have many on the menu. I never tire of this eatery. Can't wait to go back again. Unfortunately, we never get to the desserts as we have eaten our full meals! This must change. Maybe next time appetizers only and leaving room for desserts.
