Have been going to Mamma Zu since the late '80s. Their dishes are simply the best Italian food this side of Florence. You may not receive timely or friendly service, but the food is worth it. Come in a group of 6 with reservations or in smaller groups and be content to enjoy a bottle of house red while you... More

On entering Mamma Zu's we were left to stand in the middle of the room for a few minutes until and man a few feet away asked how many. He then pointed to a table and left. After a couple minutes he slapped down two glasses of water, told us the menu was on the board and a server would... More

Went for dinner while in town on business. It was recommended to me by locals. They failed to "warn" me that the place doesn't look like much from the outside or inside for that matter. I wasn't sure I was at the front entrance as there was any indication at the entrance though I could hear the sounds of a... More

DO Not Miss this place! Broccolini was the best I've ever had! Full of garlic, pine nuts, and fragrant olive oil. Yum!!! Eggplant parm was superb! Perfectly prepared and fresh with just the right amount of acid in the marinara sauce! Bread was local and delish too! Lasagna was a generous portion and every bite was satisfying and delicious too.... More

Had heard good things and decided to try. It is disgusting, feels dirty. Staff rude, if that's their claim to fame, it's nuts. Pasta had hardlyany meat, wine was in a fruit juice glass, way too expensive. Food dumped and never saw the waitress again, she got no tip. Did not even check on us to see if we needed... More

The red pizza (takes 30 minutes) is off the chain. Get one for an appetizer its life changing. Don't eat too much bread although it's amazing and order anything from the menu it's all great. A cannoli for dessert and go find a nap spot. It's not pretty but it's well worth the less attractive ambiance for the amazing cuisine.... More

After hearing from so many people that this place was one of the best Italian restaurants in Richmond, I excitedly headed over and met some friends. Their marinara sauce is not sauce at all but diced tomatoes mixed with grease! Not olive oil but grease! It had such little taste and our food was so dry we asked for extra... More

I had dinner at Mamma Zu's with our neighbors one evening and we just had a blast of an experience. We even met some very nice people who drove up from Williamsburg, VA just to try the food. The food is good and well worth it and the wait! I had the Clams and pasta dish and it was very... More

The line starts before they open! Enormous servings of fresh ingredients that taste like someone's Nonna is in the kitchen. If you are getting appetizers, consider sharing an entree as we could not eat everything they brought. The seafood with crabmeat was full of tender sweet crab. The zuppa di pesce had a bit of a spicy tomato kick, and... More
