Had to wait for a table, but once seated, the waitress was very helpful in describing the dishes and service was good. Not much on atmosphere but the food is worth it.

Been going there for years. Had the pork chops with greens, mashed potatoes, and corn bread. Peach cobbler for dessert. All were excellent.

Love the pork chops, the green bean, the collards and the corn bread. The catfish is good too if you like it spicy.

During a recent visit to Richmond, VA to visit our daughter we stopped by Mama J's Kitchen for a late breakfast before heading home. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The menu features country favorites such as chicken, soup, sandwiches, fish, and pork dishes. The desert menu boasts peach cobbler and bread pudding. Mama... More

We left the I95 for lunch based on evaluation. Checked hours which said they were open. They were not!

If you are in Richmond, you need to find the time to visit Mama J's. We had a long wait, probably 45 minutes to an hour, but it was worth it. The catfish nuggets for an appetizer is a must. The special of the day was meatloaf and it was fantastic. One of their specialty sides is macaroni and cheese,... More

Ordered a bunch of the catfish bites for a recent Holiday Pot-Luck event and they were the bomb ! Can't go wrong with Mama J's, and wish I also ordered her sweet potatoes, and other great items. Save room for dessert - yum !

This is a great restaurant, serving delicious chicken, either fried or baked. One gets to choose between white meat or dark meat, but no matter what you select, it is delicious. The mac and cheese is also great. I also enjoyed the cole slaw. There are a number of different sides, and based on what we ate, I think everything... More

Catfish and tartar sauce is awesome! Had to wait a while since the restaurant is small and I only saw 9 tables. But it was worth it. My husband got pork chops. We also got Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, greens, string beans. It was all delicious and a great place to eat while visiting Richmond.

Thank Angela H
