We have been to many Mexican restaurants in the Richmond area and this is a upscale place. We were greeted by a smiling happy young hostess Molly who gave as a outside request table. She assisted us in ordering our dinner and drinks. All orders...are done by cell phones which I am not sure we are in favorite of this procedure My wife and I order tacos and Fajita and of course a margarita. The service was excellent. Our waitress touched basics with us several times to make sure we had water and and made sure our order was in process. the tacos (3 different types) were delicious. Freshly make with quality ingredients. The Fajita were equally excellent. A great restaurant to go to while shopping at Short Pump. A little more expensive than the small Mexican restaurants but worth the experience.More

I was in Short Pump with my husband and daughter over Thanksgiving weekend for a huge annual field hockey tournament, and we dined at Casa del Barco with a few of her teammates and parents. We were all so disappointed in this experience. Considering how...many restaurants the Short Pump area offers, we were upset we chose Casa del Barco. We know any other restaurants would have better met our expectations and would have been worth the price. We appreciate the QR code for the menu, online ordering, and payment. However it resulted in problems. First, we were all automatically charged a 20% gratuity -- but for what?? Someone brought us drinks and food runners brought food from the kitchen but that's it. And it wasn't even good delivery of food and drinks. Before we even got chips and salsa, one girl's food order came out. All the other entrees came out at random times and it was all 10+ minutes after the first girl got her food. It was awkward that we weren't all eating our food at the same time. Also we got a couple margaritas but they were terrible, and we sent them back and asked for a different drink. When the bartender brought our new drinks out, he slammed them down on the table like he was insulted we rejected his first drink. It was so rude and again, I paid 20% gratuity for that???? Lastly, it was ridiculously expensive. Dinner for 2 adults and a child cost $94. A bowl of meat, rice, and beans started around $11 or $12 but any add-ons just spiked the price. Adding guacamole to a bowl was $8!!! Do you know how many avocados I can get for $8 and make my own guac?? I will never eat here again nor will I recommend this to others. It's sad, because when we come to the area each Thanksgiving weekend for the field hockey tournament and we have a chance to discuss dining options with others, we will be sure to NOT recommend this to anyone.More

We dined after walking along Canal Walk. The restaurant is set up for contact free ordering and tables spaced properly to assure safe dining. I understand COVID 19 has impacted everyone but there is no excuse for food that is just average for the prices...being charged. The food is not typical Mexican but the Chicken Enchiladas tasted good but the rice was hard and appeared to have been left out under a heat lamp for a long time. The black beans were flavorless. I agree with another reviewer about the 20% surcharge and confusing section on tips all paid up front before service is rendered. I felt like being scammed and will not return.More

My wife and I visited the Short Pump - Richmond location for lunch on Saturday, August 1, 2020. I was really looking forward to it. The restaurant had a great vibe to it even with the COVID-19 issues. The food there was really great. I...had the three tacos and my wife had the chicken enchiladas. We had chips and salsa as an appetizer. We also ordered a coke and a sprite...which was the most challenging item of all apparently. So we arrive and you have to order off of your phone because it's contactless. OK that's fine. A server brings you water and then says they can't take drink orders...but she said she would bring us a coke and a sprite. She never returned. So we make the food order with drinks and the never ending chips and salsa appetizer shows up. All good. Still no drinks. 10 minutes later...food shows up and it looks good. So great! Still no drinks, so I ask again for drinks. 20 minutes later, it's clear they are very serious about no contact...no one has checked on us. No drinks, no appetizer refill on chips...nothing. I look a round the restaurant...no servers are present anywhere. Finally I go to the bar and say look can I please have a coke and sprite? He tells me yeah I'll have it sent out. 5 minutes later, the server comes out with a sprite and Diet Coke...not a regular coke that I had ordered 3 times by now....no "I'm sorry for not checking or forgetting about you" in a restaurant that was maybe 20% capacity at that time. Basically, at that point we take what we get, eat and then leave. Here's the kicker>>> When we ordered up front, you have to pay WITH a TIP at that time. There's a little blurb in the menu about how they have ALREADY added in 20% so their professional wait staff can earn a living wage, but you should feel free to tip even more...this is all before any service is ever rendered. It's a great case study in human behavior...when they know they are getting tipped no matter what, there's no incentive to perform. Pretty good scam. In the final analysis, you may as well go to Chipotle. The food is just as good, the service is better and you don't tip hipsters with no incentive to do a good job. From now on if I want good Mexican Food I'll go to Uncle Julio's, On the Border, Anita's, Pancho Villas or any number of establishments. Stay away from these guys until they get their service act together. I hope they do, because it's a beautiful clean restaurant with good food.More

This place needs to get on board w/ HH.. They will be left behind--even during Covid-after we have opened back up-- Sedona, Latitudes, Wood and Iron, and other places continue their HH.. IT is cheap--now they have stopped HH on Friday's.. I will choose not...to support this business model-- IT is the principle. Your food is average -- because u are affiliated w/ Boathouse -- guess this makes it special??? I do understand things r a little different during Covid-- downsized menu- etc. other places r making it work--More

I had trouble enjoying the food because everything was so different. Even the chips weren't typical so if you want non-typical you might try it. The place was clean and the service was fine.

Wow, we were treated royally. The table was beautifully set, the service was top notch, and the lunch items were presented artistically. The food was extraordinary! Need I say more?

I went to this new location with a friend, and ordered the dinner platter after the server informed me which menu items I could eat based on my allergies. Unfortunately, she was incorrect and the meal I received had allergens in it. Our server disappeared...for quite some time and another server came over and was extremely confused about the menu and presence/absence of milk. When I got a new taco, it was also prepared incorrectly. Our server did not check up on us, ask us how our meal was, confirm the correct order, or replace it. For the price I paid, the hassle of this food was not worth it. If you have food allergies or sensitivities, steer clear!More
