Delicous, Fresh Mediterranean In a Sophisticated But Comfortable Setting

All I can think about during covid is as soon as this is over I am heading to Demi's. If you love seafood, fresh, savory Mediterranean food in a fun but comfortable setting, Demi's is for you. I am always not just impressed by the food, but the staff, the excellent and patient bartenders who handily serve the waiting-for-a-table crowd.

This is a wonderful, cozy yet upscale neighborhood restaurant. The food is very good and the service is excellent. My spouse had the Chicken Marsala and I had the chicken souvlakia. Both were excellent! We shared the hummus. You have the option to order two different types of hummus in the same serving. We had tahini which was recommended by our waitress and which had a little bite to it —really good.

Excellent dinner on a busy Friday night...

The mark of a good restaurant is how it performs on a busy night. Demi's did very well. We called for reservations late in the day; the hostess politely said the best she could promise was 7:45...we took it. We arrived a bit early and were pleasantly surprised when the hostess said our table was ready. Demi's was busy! You get a vibe when you walk into a restaurant...this one was buzzing. It was loud, high energy. Patrons were clearly enjoying themselves. Our waiter greeted us right away and took our drink orders. The menu is nicely varied, reasonably priced and offers good choices. My wife ordered the pork marsala, while I chose the salmon putanesca. Warm bread was served, shortly after our drinks. Conversation was a bit of a challenge given the high energy atmosphere. Our entrees arrived with just about the right timing, another mark of a well run restaurant. Both of our dinners were delicious, full of flavor, cooked just right. Our waiter was clearly a professional, busy serving several tables with efficiency. He was pleasant, attentive and prompt. Demi's was superb. We will be back!

Surprising experience

I have eaten here many times pre Covid and enjoyed the restaurant. The food is consistent and there are many choices. The fish is always tasty. Vegetables are often so so, as the peas and artichokes taste like they are straight out of a can. What made tonight feel awkward happened at the end of the meal when we were presented with our check. Under the state tax was a line item, 'meal tax' of about $5 Ina $55 bill which was more than sales tax. I've never seen this on a restaurant bill so I asked the waitress what it was. She said she had no idea and kind of blew me off. When I pressed and asked again she said she'd get Jimmy(owner) and hurried away. After about 10 minutes jimmy came and claimed it was city tax -which added with state tax made it about 13%. He said of course waitress didntknow. I disagree, I think waiters should be able to explain a bill. After that she hurriedly ran our tickets and dropped them on table without a word. It certainly put a damper on a restaurant I have enjoyed in the past.

Fair food, unfair prices

The good: the staff was very nice and efficient. The bad: Not only is the food overpriced, but the menu online does not match reality. Second, they took the liberty of tacking on their own tip at at a cushy 20% and this was not explained in advance. Finally, the food: it was just OKish and the entree didn't even come with a vegetable. In general, I was just underwhelmed and doubt I will be back.

My Favorite Restaurant in Richmond, VA

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Richmond VA. Authentic Greek, Italian and Spanish food. Everything is excellent. The service is too rare as well. Chef Jimmy makes sure you will have an amazing food expensive. Cheers!

Hands Down My Favorite Restaurant In Richmond, VA

Everything about this restaurant I love. The food is extraordinary with dishes authentic to Greece, Italy and Spain. The service is first class as well. Chef Jimmy has outdone himself. This is my go to place to go for high quality food, meeting friends, taking clients or for a single meal. The craft cocktails and wine list are excellent as well.

Simply Delicious

Wow, from our apps (octopus, pita with four toppings, etc.) to our entrees, it was all delicious. My wife had a tasty chicken picatta. My daughter had an awesome lamb entree. Her boyfriend and I had a incredible special: pork belly, pork tenderloin, and sausage is a delicious “ring.” The wine was good. Our server was friendly, professional, and helpful. We shall return!

Everything was great - but it’s SUPER loud

Everything was really good, except the noise level. That would be my only complaint. It was so loud! As a group, sit next to someone you plan on talking with the whole night. We were just a couple and we struggled - I felt like we were yelling. The service was great, the food was amazing.

Delicious appetizers, excellent staff

We started with 4 appetizers which were all delicious. Fried calamari was cooked perfectly which was accompanied by delicious tzatziki sauce. Dried apricots were delicious although small (there were 6). Saganaki (flaming cheese) was heavenly. The olive tray was plentiful. Each couple got a Valencian salad which was good but for $15 thought it would be larger. Our waitress, Katie, was super friendly and knowledgeable. She kept our glasses filled without hovering. Empty dishes were cleared away promptly but we didn’t feel rushed. Excellent experience. We’ll be back!

Very good-- great service-- will go again!

Referred by a friend. GREAT service-- kudos to Katherine--nice cocktails-- tried the fried eggplant on the menu-- DELISH as appetizer-- light and perfect-- and that's hard to do-- not greasy--- Hubby had the special flounder stuffed with fried oysters and stuffing. Looking back on it that sounds weird-- and it was a bit. Flounder was great and so were the oysters-- but the stuffing was well.........stuffing. BORING and glutinous and superfluous. I had the shrimp with the feta and tomatoes. Delicious. Would order it again. Light and fresh and shrimp perfectly cooked. The dessert was very good too-- some kind of pastry kind of filled with a creme brulee? Wow! Hubby had fantastic ice cream-- a scoop of amaretto and a scoop of vanilla. Perfect. Will definitely be back-- it can get a bit noisy-- we moved our booth back a row-- and it was great. BTW the restrooms are nice-- women care about that AND the guy who seated us was great-- and took it in stride that we wanted to move -- can't remember his name. Go!

I visit RVA quite often and have eaten at Demi's on a few occasions. The food is above average, but the owner, Daniella, is homophobic. She has been outwardly rude to me on every occasion that laid I my $100+ down at her establishment. She was very rude, inconsiderate and obviously had a problem with me and my friends. I will no longer eat at this restaurant. Instead, I found a much better Mediterranean Restaurant located in Scott's Addition- a newly opened restaurant called Pinky's. They are accepting of ALL people and happy to take my money. The food is outstanding and the best TAPAS is RVA along with a wonderful atmosphere.

great food, been here twice and haven't tried anything I didn't like. Fresh, homemade food for the soul. Authentic Mediterranean food, dinner rolls are the best
