Suan la cho show! Pork dumplings over bean sprouts with a spicy brown sauce. Absolutely delicious. Living in Florida now we miss northern chinese food. We had just traditional pork friend rice and chicken fingers. And real duck sauce!! Amazing.

my book club has gone here in the past; they can accommodate a large group (say, 18) with little notice. Food and prices are standard. I have been looking forward to finding sticky rice in the lotus leaves; they make this dish here for lunar...New Year. Unfortunately, I don't live in Boston and missed it by one week last year. Maybe next year! Staff is nice.More
Go in, order, hang out, eat, enjoy - think: wow! This is the way I want my life to be. Nice, easy, good.
We've been going there frequently for 30 years, and once you know 'your' dishes, and there are plenty of them, you'll have a wonderful meal. They have very spicy all the way to completely mild. The service is good, pretty fast, and they can advise...you on staying away from MSG. Lots of veggie offerings.More
An excellent variety of tasty dishes. Convenient location on Mass Avenue in Central Square in Cambridge.
Traveling to Boston to visit family and catch a show at Central Square theater....wanted classic Chinese food. Good selection, fair prices. Just did not wow. Appetizers came and food within minutes after. Taste was ok. A few MIT type business meetings in restaurant...tech talk was...Interesting Would go back when in Somerville/CambridgeMore
Came here to have dinner on a cold October evening. What really attracted me to this place is the fact it says "Shichuan" style food and as a result I am expecting nice spices like shichuan peppercorn -- the type of pepper that will not...be hot but actually provides a tingling and numbing sensation to your mouth. However, I am sad to report that none of the three dishes that I ordered provided such a sensation. 1) Bean sprout in spicy sauce. I think the bean sprout is simply washed, placed on the plate and then hot sauce was poured over it. The combination does not work. The bean sprout is better served with the hoisin sauce that you can typically find in a Vietnamese restaurant. I personally don't think there was an effort in developing this dish, except mixing the sauce. The sauce has a smokey flavor to it and this is something that I recognize (I frequent shichuan restaurants in the Chinese community in NJ). To me, this dish is a pass. 2) Dan Dan sauce over fried beancurd (tofu) -- good dish. The dan dan sauce was good. The also fried the beancurd to make the surface crispy. What really is worth mentioning is that the inside of the beancurd is gooey and soft, providing a very good contrast with the crispy skin. This dish is a good dish. 3) Shichuan style beef noddle soup -- a pass. My personal assessment is that not enough effort has been devoted into developing the broth. With any soup noodle dish, the broth is the key. The broth of this dish was rather blend, but they do give enough beef and the beef was tender and has flavor. Overall, food is a two star. Out of three dishes I ordered two was a pass and therefore I don't consider that it has met expectations. Service is a three star, just barely meet expectation. I am not one of those who oppose the staff to speak in local dialect. When I was dining there, only three tables were occupied and the staff sat in the back either checking their cell phone and/or chatting. To me, checking the cell phone would have been more acceptable because you could hear their conversation and when the staff left the area to provide service to patrons they continued to carry out the conversation across the dining area. I don't think this is appropriate. The service was, however, fast and so I assign a three star to indicate that it barely meets expectation. Value is a three star. The three dishes I ordered cost in a total of $18.xx. It's inexpensive but the flavor was not there, except the Dan Dan tofu.More
Mary Chungs has been around a long time. We try to stop in when visiting New England. Good food and prices Portions are a bit modest but you won’t regret the visit
I was there with my colleague for lunch and our lunch was very bad. My dumplings cover with very salty sauce, my Beef Chow fon turn out like pad Thai ( no flat noddle) the server had a cold she had running nose Yuk :(...Never wanted to be there any more.More
I had an overnight in Cambridge last week and based on the reviews got a Szechuan chicken take out from Mary Chung's. Although the portion was large, the taste was fairly insipid and full of oil, so, all in all, rather disappointing.
Best dun dun noodles I ever had and the Peking dumplings were awesome. The wait staff also very friendly Parking on the street is nearly iossibe, but there are plenty of fairly reasonable garages.
Classic Chinese food here. They tend to serve kind of spicy to very spicy food. It’s an old place that is well worth it!
Several years ago I lived in Cambridge and ate at Mary Chung's often. Yesterday I visited some friends in Cambridge and we had lunch here. The place looks about the same as it did all those years ago. And thankfully, the menu is still extensive...and the food still excellent.More
Mary Chung is my go to place if I feel like Chinese food in Central square. They offer variety of food in such a good quality. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
I have an addiction to their Suanla chaoshou. So good. Words can not describe the euphoria they give me. I have never had a bad meal.
