I’ve taught at a university in eastern China for 6 years for 3 weeks at a time. One day on my second trip I took a student to lunch on campus and she asked me, “do you like minority peoples’ food?” I didn’t have a...clue and said sure. I’ll try anything. We got way too much food that she took home enough leftovers for her 5 roommates (that’s typical) to have a full meal. She ordered her typical inexpensive dishes ($1.5) and I asked about the most expensive dish ($11) on the menu. She didn’t know what it was but we got it. It was what this restaurant calls Big Plate Chicken. It was great and Silk Road’s version is as good. Their lamb kabobs I had on the street all over China. They are outstanding and totally will expand your understanding of what Chinese food tastes like, as will their samosa. The laghman was something I ate once a week after being introduced to the “minority peoples’ food!” Please do yourself a favor and eat here. The flavors are a bit more middle eastern than you’d expect for China but it’s all from the spice trades on the Silk Road.More

My son likes to order meals from this exciting restaurant. He and his wife ordered several entrées and the variety and flavors were delicious. I look forward to enjoying more tasty offerings.

Flavorless chopped noodles with frozen veggies and a few tiny bits of beef all swimming in a pool of grease. An utterly revolting dish. Tea inexplicably not available because of CVOID. Service a complete meh. This restaurant is a burn down write off.

Couldn't remember the name of Dolan Restaurant in DC, and was startled to see "Uyghur Restaurant Boston" pop up when I started to type "Uyghur Restaurant DC." Intrigued, I accepted the suggestion, and was gobsmacked when Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine appeared, and astounded to learn...that it had been around since 2018 (the gentleman who handled my order said four years, and Yelp, which usually lists things well before TripAdvisor confirms > 3.5). Not ready to venture into a small restaurant to eat just yet, picked up an order when heading to visit friends on the Cape later that week. There was a young family happily eating (it was just a couple days after Eid), but the one table took up maybe 1/3 of the restaurant seating. Food traveled well, and was still warm several hours later. Focused on noodles and lamb (surprise) but also had the chicken small plate. There were ample leftovers (hope our hosts ate them), but I didn't mind missing them as we were planning to stop at Shaanxi Noodles in Natick on the way home (spoiler alert- the website is self-contradicting, but believe the page that says "Closed on Tuesdays :( ). It is a bit on the pricey side, but they have a 10% discount for first-time customers. I love the lamb skewer/kebabs, but couldn't bring myself to pay their prices. Not expecting to pay Shanghai/Beijing prices, but San Jose/Toronto/Vancouver should be reasonable benchmarks. Usual Cambridge parking considerations; throw in a lot of construction to make it interesting. Half mile to Lechmere and MoS; just under a mile to Kendall Square.More

It is very overpriced for the size and quality offered. The food has nothing special in it and not very healthy.

Food is completely overpriced, small portion, not great service. I had a little high expectation for that place after reading different reviews.

Despite its hole in the wall setting and atmosphere, I had high hopes for Silk Road, especially after reading reviews here and on Yelp. The food is completely overpriced and mediocre. As the only restaurant of its kind in Massachusetts, it would have been good...to have recommendations from the wait staff as well. I’m hoping it was an off night, as the menu does look interesting.More

Awesome chinese place outside of Inman with a Nepalese/Indian fusion element. The Langhman noodles are fantastic - get them.

Tiny tiny place, but the food was incredible. I loved the big plate chicken. If you're looking for something off the beaten path in Cambridge, this is the place to go.

This place is, indeed, no fancy restaurant. It looks very unattractive from the outside, yet the food is just on point. The place is rather small, it offers about 8-10 tables. The menu selection is rather extensive. The portions are large and the food is...really authentic and delicious. Don't get fooled by the look of the place as it is definitely worth a shot if you are in the area and in a mood for some delicious ethnic cuisine.More

Uyghur cuisine. ... flashbacks to Peter Hopkirk... Bezeklick caves... I want to love this restaurant. I tried it twice but will never return. The cuisine is uncompromisingly authentic. A common Uyghur dish is laghman (لەڭمەن, ләңмән), a special type of handmade noodle, made from flour,...water, and salt. The dough is stretched by hand and the noodles are boiled until very soft and then served topped with stir-fried meat and vegetables. Sounds yummy. But alas, the noodles are swimming in oil. There was hardly any veggies. The dish was low on meat and only had a few pieces. For what we received - felt it was not good value. To appeal to non-Uyghurs there should be less oil, more veggies, and more meat. But, maybe the dish would not be as authentic. The kababs were OK. But, again the serving was small and the price expensive. Nothing to rave about. The third dish we tried was stir-fried meat with onions... that was the dish we enjoyed the most here. I fear that the restaurant will fail if they continue serving the food they do - at the prices they charge. That would be a sad thing. Uyghur restaurants are few and this one is an endangered species flirting with extinction. What a pity. With a bit of tuning they could be a success. We tried the place twice. Blew through about $70.00. We won't be giving this place a third try. A pity. The staff is nice. The food may be authentic, but with the small portion size- the small amount of meat and veggie, and the dry noodles swimming in oil, and the poor value - I am forced to pass.More

I’ve visited West China & feasted on the Lamb kebabs, flat noodles & local naan bread. This place is the real deal...oil & all. We had: lamb skewers-Fantastic. This is a must! Bean curd salad-Good. Need at least one cold dish. Big Chicken-Excellent. The small...plate was big enough for the 2 of us. Be advised that this type of chicken dish uses all parts of the chicken & will have lots of bones...that’s what helps it taste so good. This was on the oily side, typical for this type of dish preparation.More
