Midgard Restaurant & Bar is located in Hvolsvöllur, a nature, adventure and Northern Light paradise in the heart of South Iceland at the gateway to the highlands. After a day out exploring Midgard invites you to share your adventure stories over a delicious meal in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Midgard Restaurant serves Nordic food inspired by travel, both in Iceland and around the world. Expect freshly caught fish from the South Coast, pasture-raised Icelandic lamb and tasty plant-based dishes with potatoes from our neighboring town Þykkvabær and locally grown herbs. We truly focus on offering produce from our local community and dishes made very much from scratch. Midgard is a local’s favorite, but it’s not just about the food, the vibe is inviting, cheerful and laid-back. You are not spoilt for choice in Hvolsvöllur: if you don't want to have a highway-quality pizza or a burger, you better head to the supermarket while it's still open (which, on weekend, is not for long). We ended up at Midgard out of desperation. The menu was not exactly appealing to my tastes, but in the end we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered a naked burger, and not only was it tasty - the chef even came out to check whether I needed the meal to be gluten free. This kind of attention to guests is not common in Iceland, and I sure didn't expect it in an affordable burger place. The side potatoes were lovely, and the salad very fresh and rich.
All in all, an unexpectedly nice meal, made even better by the friendliness and attention to detail of the whole staff.

I highly recommend the vegan burger, one of the best I’ve ever tried. A family member also ordered the regular burger and according to him it was delicious as well.
The place it self is very trendy and well designed and the staff was super nice.
Will definitely go again next time I’m in Hvolsvöllur.

We don't usually settle for burgers, but we were exhausted after hiking and driving all day. And the burgers were spectacular! Cooked just how we ordered them, as well as juicy, full of flavor and grilled taste. They were topped with a caramelized onion relish that was to die for. The "fries" were actually tiny new potatoes cut in half and either deep fried of grilled. Try their Sudovik (?sp) beer - slightly sweet and effervescent. Service is fast and friendly.

This restaurant opened for lunch for a group of more than 60 who were delayed due to weather which closed the road. Our server, who we found later was an owner, explained that they were not usually open for lunch, made us feel welcome and relaxed and brought beverages quickly. Menu surprised me, I expected a sandwich under the circumstances. I chose the lamb shank with delicious, fresh mashed potatoes and vegetables. Others at my table had burgers, pasta with salmon and vegetarian entrees.
Even dessert ...followed by a "story" of the history of Midgard (an Adventure camp). Their warm welcome turned what could have been a long wait on a bus to a glimpse of a wonderful family run establishment that deserves to succeed .

Excellent service, excellent food, a nice selection of local beer, and a cozy environment. We unexpectedly found Midgard and were pleasantly surprised. The Arctic Char was superb and wasn’t overpriced; and one in our crowd, who had high ‘beef’ expectations, really enjoyed his burger.

Our bus tour was put on hold for a couple of hours because of high winds. The tour guides frantically were trying to find a new place for us to eat lunch. Midgard was closed but opened up their doors for a group of 60!!! The food was amazing … the lamb shanks were very tender and the salmon pasta was very tasty. Cute young family owners were more than accommodating and I would recommend for any traveler !!!

Iceland is a magical place. Yellowstone meets Hawaii plus add amazing people and national pride which is infectious and beyond laudatory. Midgard Restaurant, part of Midgard Adventures, is spectacular in a way that you really want and need after hiking, touring and all-around adventuring. Warmth envelopes the entire place. Great cocktails and cool bar/seating area, gracious and happy hosts, amazing and attentive service and simply delicious food. Everyone is appropriately proud of Iceland sourcing all local and sustainable food (including the Gin). Portions are VERY generous. Our server, Gina, was delightful and I wish she was coming with us on our adventure tomorrow but not as much as II wish this restaurant was not on an island nation thousands of miles from Colorado………

We stopped @ Midgard while passing along southern Iceland as part of a 2 night stop within our trip. Gina and staff dialed us up a delicious dinner that included unique menu items and cocktails. I suggest you try the desert as well - cookie w/ the pops. Do yourself a favor, eat @ Midgard when in or near Hvolsvollur!

If you are staying in or passing through Hvolsvöllur, Midgard Restaurant is a must for drinks, dinner and dessert!
Midgard Restaurant has a fantastic vibe - very down to earth, friendly and welcoming staff greet you and make you feel like part of the gang. The food was delightful as were the drinks. Would recommend the Gin and Roses or Midgard Mule and ANY of the starters. We tried the soup, crumpets, and salmon spread… all were excellent! Each of the 4 in our party ordered a different meal and sampled them all. Everyone had great flavor! To end the meal, the Cookie Dessert with Pop Rocks was the cherry on top of a tremendous experience. Would highly recommend that Cookie Dessert… could have eaten one on my own! :)

Such a great relaxed atmosphere. Came here for a simple birthday dinner. The food was lovely. We got a burger and because it was my birthday they brought out dessert on the house that was so beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. We asked our amazing server Olga if the chef could come out to thank him and he was so humble and kind. Can’t say enough about how cute the place was, tasty the food is and wonderful the staff will be for your stay!

My wife liked her fish sandwich and chips and got filled up. My arctic char was very good and was cooked just right so that it was moist and flavorful. The employees were very friendly and talkative. It was a good dining experience.

The food was delicious, the space was cozy with swings and couches that can be used to lounge before or after a meal. In the back, there are picnic tables that have a great view of the mountains.
The food was solid. We tried the brie, the charcuterie board, the lamb, shank, the spaghetti. It was all delicious. Each dish was elegantly presented with attention to detail.

We had two meals at the Midgard Restaurant and Bar. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful, not only with recommending food but places to visit in the area. The restaurant and bar is light and airy with views of the mountains in the distance and horses grazing nearby. The food was all very tasty and highlighted local foods.

I had such a great dinner at this cozy and laidback restaurant. I ordered the Arctic burger with homemade sauce, which was delicious and tender. The pot de crème was lovely and not too sweet, and the cappuccino was probably the best I’ve had in Iceland so far. This cap-ended a great day sightseeing. I wish we could have lingered, given the great environment and service. Alas, we had to continue our drive, but I would highly recommend Midgard!

We had a great dinner at Midgard restaurant. The vegan spaghetti were a dream - very delicious! The burgers were good too. The staff is friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay, particularly also due to the relaxed and adventure authentic atmosphere. The price for our dinner including drinks was absolutely moderate and value-for-money.
