Great food! We ate here two nights in a row. The staff are lovely, and the food generous and no nonsense. We had the horse steak and lamb steak first night, and the lamb soup and lamb steak the second. The garlic bread pizza is...hands down one of the best we’ve had. For down to earth food…definitely come and eat here!!More

Honestly so upset, everything was fine until the food started arriving. The time between the first plate coming to the table and my pizza was 20 Minutes. Keep in mind I had a Margarita pizza which was undoubtedly the simplest kind you can get there....Understanding that these things can happen at restaurants (having been a server myself) I went over to the cashier when everyone had finished eating to pay. I kindly explain what had happened and asked if they couldn’t just give me a discount. She of course agreed but when she handed me the receipt the “discount” was so small it took me a long time and a second look at a menu to find it. Overall I’m just extremly disappointed. ☹️More

There aren't many options in Hella, and fewer on Monday. We tried the Kanslarinn with a little trepidation but were very satisfied with our meal. The horse tenderloin was well prepared but a simple dish of meat and fries. We greatly preferred the pan-fried fish...with shrimp cream sauce, which was excellent - and half the price of the tenderloin. Service was friendly and quick.More

Had the horse steak and the Icelandic soup (which is lamb). The service was nice. There were different choices for food.

There aren't many dining options in Hella, and although Kanslarinn isn't anything exotic, it offers a fine menu in a comfortable environment. The atmosphere resembles a simple diner, but the menu does offer something for everyone. The service was prompt and friendly, and I enjoyed...everything I ordered. I would recommend visiting Kanslarinn if you are in the area and are looking for a relaxing dinner.More

We were running very late on the way back to Reykjavik after spending the day exploring the Westman Islands and the South Coast. It was almost 9pm and our large family group was tired and hungry. We pulled up to Kanslarin without a lot of...expectation, what a surprise. Two people had the pan fried fish with shrimp cream sauce. It was excellent. Two kids has the fried shrimp and one had fish and chips. Everyone loved it. I had a pizza. It was thin and crispy. This place doesn't look like much but their chef is very skilled.More

Our hotel resturant was fully booked so we nipped across the road to this place - straight forward and no nonsense, almost pub like ambiance. Meat soup was pretty decent (lamb) and I actually ventured for the horse pepper steak just to try it, tastes...a lot like a beef just a little tougher consistently, honestly you could believe it was a normal beef steak if no one told you. Pepper corn sauce was good and the chips decent. Service was fine, food came quickly. Was 4600 for the steak, 1000 for a pint of beer, soup was 2000 - a little on the pricey side but fine. My friend tried a pizza, that wasn’t so great, he said about 4/10.More

On our way to Vestmannaeyjar we stopped at Kanslarinn at Hella to get some food before taking the ferry to Vestmannaeyjar. We informed the staff that we were in a hurry to get the ferry and we got our meals very quick. I had a...deep fried fish and got salat in stead of fries (KETO) the fish was very delicious, cooked to perfection. The salat was also very good. My wife got traditional lamb meat soup and liked it very much. The young ones got hamburgers and complained about how small they were (90g). The waiter informed that they were expecting larger ones in next shipment. The restaurant was clean and the service was excellent. I recommend the deep fried fish.More

The food looked fine, and it was cooked properly, but it was tasteless (fish and chips) or just not interesting (pizza). But there was nothing wrong with it. Service was fine, ambiance is absent.

We got here after a long wet drive from the airport. Very friendly staff, a good menu with plenty of different things. The lamb fillet was the best I have ever tasted. Sure the accompaniments (salad & fries) are pretty standard but it was a...good mealMore

Family went there to eat whilst on a roadtrip, everyone disliked the food a lot and we’ve been to loads of restaurants but we’ve never experienced this before. Hamburgers very dry and messy, tasted bad and were barely edible. Buns were burnt and there was...baraly any sauce. Pizza is bought from a supermarket, microwaved and served, tasted horrible. Which resulted in a child leaving the restaurant without eating. WORST PIZZA THAT WE’VE BEEN SERVED WITHOUT A DOUBT. We spoke to a waitress and asked her to tell the chef that the pizza was inedible, but we got zero response from the chef, (In most -if not ALL cases the chef comes and says something or offers something else in exchange). As we were paying, the manager(?) told us whilst having a panic attack that the pizza was homemade and that the place has it’s good reputation for it’s delicious pizza, which is most likely utter crap, he said it in a rude tone. The manager did not even bother giving us a discount (as restaurants tend to do, or atleast I’m told), but in the end we got a -300kr discount off our 19.000kr+ check. TLDR, bad food don’t even bother dining there, bad service :) 0/10 would never eat there againMore

The menu was short, only a few burgers, one or two pizzas and only two beers (not on tap). The meat on my chicken burger was very bad quality and the burger toppings came on the side, like it was out of pure laziness or...something. The waiter was nice thoMore

My group and I had dinner together at Kanslarinn in August. The location is nice, with its big rooms and long wooden tables. I can’t say the same about the outside, as the Restaurant overlooks a car park. Food was good and servings were average....I personally ate boiled fish, which was nice. Prices were ok; some of us took advantage of the day offer.More
