My fiancee and I were supposed to get married on July 23rd, but we postpone and decided to take a little trip to the zoo and have a fancy meal - we picked this place based on reviews. First we really liked the privacy of...the booths, and the professionalism of the staff. The food came out on little carts which was also cute. Our waiter was pretty slow, but he was nice. He forgot to bring a beer out for over 20 minutes which annoyed us, but not a huge deal. The Food: The bread that came before our meal was amazing - not much more to say, we loved it. We ordered the crab cake as an appetizer - it was VERY good, but honestly, probably not worth $24 for 1 cake. For dinner, I had the filet mignon - it was extremely good, but just a hair on the dry side - I still ate the entire thing. Conor had the ribeye, and went on and on and on about how amazing it was. For sides, we had the lobster mac and cheese - honestly, was just okay but I love mac and cheese so I ate quite a bit! and we had the mashed potatoes with the added cheese mixed it - those were to die for!! We also each ordered dessert - the creme brulee was amazing and perfect - the death by chocolate was SO much chocolate, and the cake was on the dry side, we didn't finish that one. Overall we had some things that were AMAZING, and other things that were meh - but it was one of the best meals we have ever had!More

I travel the world in search of good food. My visit here was a chance encounter, passing through town. This is the part where Id insert an explextive, this place is fantastic. Ive been to many of the top steak houses in the country, Shannihans...in Denver is fantastic, of the big chains Flemmings is probably my favorite, but Ill tell you, this place probably had the best steak Ive ever had, including comparables such as many fine establishments in Argentina. It doesnt hurt that my service was also 100% right 100% of the time. Great knowledge, descriptions, guidance, attentive. Everything about this place is wonderful and I would highly recommend to anyone.More

Felt like the 1930s and all that was missing were Classic American Cars/ Cigarette smoke and Gangsters. First the negative I just felt that my steak could have used a bit more seasoning and my souffle was a bit too eggy for my taste and...somewhat burnt. Now to the gloriousness of the food in general and the Legend of Justin our server. First and foremost Justin is a rockstar. He knew the menu front and gave off great energy. I ordered 2 old fashions and had a gorgeous Bone-In NYS medium rare w/a black Peppercorn Sauce, Fais Grais and shaved Black Truffle (Rossini) Holy Shi*. Granted the money spent for my dish alone was well worth it for the experience and although I may have lacked seasoning I would come back and do it all over again. My sincerest and most honest opinion. Outstanding 801 Chop House. Cheers🍻🍻More

Ordered a filet mignonette and wedge salad. Both were great. However after I placed my order that was the last I saw of my waiter. Never stopped to see if the steak was prepared to my liking as all steakhouses do. I suppose since I...didn’t buy any alcoholic drinks and I was a solo diner I didn’t need anymore service.More

Service was just OK. I think our waiter said 10 words to us. Would set different things on our table and not say a word. My Mussels and Wedge Salad was very good. Calamari and zucchini sticks where wonderful. We waited a long time for...our entree. My husbands steak was burnt on outside not just charred. Our waiter acted like he could care less if we where there or not. When he tried to sell us drinks, sides or dessert and we declined he lost interest in us. Bad thing because we are good tippers. Would not go back for the cost and service. We have been to 801 in Des Moines. Much better place.More

I have been here many, many times. I just thought it was time to write a review. They always deliver. Steaks are the big thing, but I've had lamb, chicken, seafood of all kinds, and never been disappointed. The wedge salad is the best in...town, and so is the bread, a great sourdough. Heck, I'd go there just for the bread. The bar is one of the best in the city, by which I mean the cocktails are very competent in a city where that is not that common. The a la carte side dishes tend to be rich and really large, so go easy. Service probably the best int he city. Expensive, but worth it in my opinion. Most highly recommended.More

Steaks, sides, drinks and service have always been superb. Dinner special on Sundays include protein, 2 sides and dessert for a special price. Best deal in town.

I’ve been to many great steak restaurants on business throughout the country and this one is okay at best. Yes they check the boxes in many areas of high-end steak houses (ambiance, attentive wait staff, menu, etc.), but it is the food that is mediocre....Our king crab on the seafood tower was old, freezer burned, and salty. The foie gras on our steak was vinegar tasting. My sirloin was so fatty I needed to send it back for further cooking as rare (the way I prefer) was inedible. I was in town with my family for this visit, however, if this was a business dinner I would have been embarrassed with my clients. Perhaps I hit a random bad night.More

Ambience, service, food and beverage selection was top notch. Filet and creamed corn - recommend these hands down. Too full for dessert. Private booths and good liquor selection. Serve staff could use updated uniforms but that would be only critique. $100 per person at min....but worth it.More
