We went to the Snow City Cafe early one morning before an excursion. We were on a tight schedule and let our server know. He was super helpful making sure we got our DELICIOUS food quickly and was even prepared with to go containers just in case. He also brought over an extra to go coffee as we were wrapping up. Just an overall fantastic experience!!! I know they’re famous for their benedicts, but I felt like oatmeal that morning and it was perfect. My bf had an omelette which he loved as well. Highly recommend. 💙

Worth the wait. We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance and we couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. Yes, we did have to wait but it was worth it. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. I had the combo which included the best tomato soup I’ve ever had, plus a sumptuous grilled cheese sandwich and a salad - all for $15. An excellent choice.

Well when in Anchorage you must try reindeer sausage. At breakfast?… why not! At Snow City Cafe I enjoyed it so much served with eggs, sausage and French toast with wild berries. Pretty much all is good there :)! Be aware on weekends there will be a line so call ahead, they take reservations.

Hi Claudia. Thanks for the great review! While we don’t take reservations, you can call and get added to our waitlist. Or even easier, join our online waitlist via Yelp or our website snowcitycafe.com. You’ll even get an estimated quote time for when your table should be ready.

If you have 1-2 hours to wait for an over-priced, mediocre breakfast then Snow City is your place. I guess they didn't get the memo that eggs Benedict are POACHED and not hard boiled, and at $17 a plate, you want it right! As well, any of the salmon or crab cakes stink to high heaven of fish. Not sure where they source the fish, but it is certainly not fresh. Coffee drinks are hit and miss depending on who's working. Coffee making is an art, not just throwing anyone behind the espresso machine and hoping for the best. My other gripe is what has happened too the good staff? Many of the good servers have also disappeared - and well, what does management do about this? Take home message: not worth waiting for two hours to eat a poorly made, over price breakfast and average coffee.

Hi 234ravenm. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your recent dining experience with us. It sounds like none of it was working for you. I hope you were able to speak with a manager about your concerns and that they were able to make things right. I’ll be sure to pass your comments along to our chef and the management team. As for our wonderful servers, they are free to come and go as they please. Many of them work seasonally or take time off to travel or spend time with their families. We respect and encourage that work life balance for all of our staff. If you’d like to discuss any of your concerns further, please contact me at tyler@locallygrownak.com.

We came here based on recommendations of locals. What a disappointment. It was nice to be able to get on the waitlist prior to arrival. When checking in at hostess stand, was told 25 minutes but it was 40. There were quite a few empty tables the entire time we were there, which arrival to departure was 90 minutes. Our food took a long time to come out, longer than others seated after us. Two polar bear orders and one cinnamon roll. They were out of cinnamon rolls before 9:45. And yet it was on our bill 60 minutes later. Server seemed perturbed when we said we didn’t want to pay for something we didn’t get. The pancakes were not really edible-bottom was hard and you couldn’t cut them with a fork; if we had cooked them they would have gone in the trash. Eggs were cold, bacon was cold, French toast was cold. I think server was overworked and not a very good one really. We could have had a better breakfast at McDonalds and spent a lot less money for better taste. Gwennies is much better if you have a chance to go there.

We didn’t want to wait for a table so we just had coffee and something small to take away. Unfortunately, the food was sold out in the system though there were still several items in the display case. So we had to wait quite a while until the cashier was able to charge us for the food.

Hi Susanne. Thank you for the feedback. I’m sorry to hear that a computer error slowed the ordering process for you. I’ll share your comments with our management team, and hopefully we can avoid any issues like this in the future.

When there is a line waiting for a restauant to open at 6:30 in the morning its a good sign that you will have a great expeience there and we did. The servers were friendly and efficient. The menu was both traditional and creative. The portions were generous and the food tasted really great. What more could you ask for?

An hour and ten minute wait at 10:30 in the morning when half the tables were empty. Then when they did seat us most choices on the menu included onions, so I ordered one item, a Mexican style egg dish, that did not state there were onions, but it still came with huge chunks of onions! Not everyone has the stomach for onions! It was just a gross mess, even if it didn't have onions. Luckily a customer who was leaving while we were still waiting handed me a couple for a free entre, so I used it for a sandwich, but they still tried to charge me for it even after I had given them the coupon. And another weird and gross thing was the constant long line for the two bathrooms. Why would there be so many people having to go to the bathroom in an average size restaurant at the same time? Was the food giving people gastric trouble?

You can't beat the food, the quality, the quantity, the atmosphere! Everything we ordered was so good that we went back the next day for breakfast too and also got take-out giant cinnamon rolls for my 90 year-old father! A winner indeed!

I was so eager to try snow city cafe because I am a poached egg with salmon fan. For me it was good but just okay. I would have rather had just salmon rather than salmon cakes. The cakes took away the flavor of the salmon. They were good but again took away the salmon flavor. Plus I thought the eggs were on the small side. Maybe I should have ordered the ones with the crab. My wife loved her nuevo huevos and london fog tea that the waiter suggested. He was very good and she said Snow City was her favorite meal while we were in Alaska

Hi brucep266. Thanks for the feedback. We’re thrilled to hear that we were your wife’s favorite meal of your trip to Alaska. We do use grade AA large eggs for all of our Benedicts, and the Ship Creek Benedict (with salmon cakes) is one of our more popular items, but I will certainly pass your observations along to our chef.

Despite getting on the waitlist online way ahead of time, this experience sucked up our whole morning. Even once seated and ordering with the server at the first chance, the food took over 30 minutes and was just okay. We both ordered the Ship Creek Benedict. English muffins were dry, eggs overcooked, hash browns okay. I know others really liked it so maybe we caught them on a bad day. At minimum, I recommend getting on waitlist at least an hour beforehand. Wait time was hour and 40 minutes for party of 4 when we were there.

When a restaurant attains a certain reputation for excellence, local exceptionalism, cuisine, and service, the bar is set so high it becomes difficult to impress the hardened foodie. My curser, therefore, hovered over "4" for a good long while until confessing to myself that it really was as good as reputed. We enjoyed some of the omelet selections, hot chocolate, reindeer sausage, and juices including enough variety to conclude that Snow City Cafe is worthy of it's exalted reputation. The wait was 45 minutes, which allowed time for some exploring on foot. Once seated, the service was first-rate, as we were attended to by a woman so familiar with her duties that it would not surprise me if she grew up in the kitchen on site. The ambiance is a blast from Alaska's past, but had it been updated or remodeled I'd have felt cheated of the full measure experience. Not surprisingly pricey for the portion sizes, no doubt because they know what they have, including patrons waiting in line to be served and mostly visiting from out of town as were we, so the market justifies the cost. I wonder where the locals eat?

Great breakfasts. Staffed with efficient, cheerful people. They handle the crowds well. We were there in peak season and time, and only had to wait 35 minutes. They have picnic tables and benches outside and inside for waiting. Health-conscious: the server asked about allergies before we ordered. They offered extra iced tea in a cup to go. When a person at another table didn't eat much of their food, they asked if there was something they could replace it with that they would like better. Interesting art. Food was well presented and tasted good. I had an omelette and my husband had eggs, sausage and an English muffin.

Snow City Cafe is a crowded diner with no free parking in downtown Anchorage. The food, the service, the location, and the ambiance are all mediocre. I honestly cannot tell you why everyone thinks this place is the bee's knees. It's like everyone heard so many people say it was awesome that when they finally go, they feel like they have to think it's awesome too! Think it's awesome or risk the cognitive dissonance of distancing oneself from group-think and being ostracized for being one of the only people not drinking the Snow City Cafe kool-aid. The coffee counter is ok. The eggs benedict and omelet my wife and I ordered were nothing special, but were served with a 30 minute wait time and middling service.

Snow city café was my first meal during my trip to Anchorage. I came just before opening already a decent size line so plan ahead. There’s street parking parking lots and parking structure nearby. I was a little shocked that a breakfast for one person was over $20. Perhaps that is normal for the area. Great tasting food though and I enjoyed Benedict immensely.
