I have been wanting to visit this place for years now but it is just located on a side of town I never go to. Today, however, I was on post and decided to quickly shoot off and order. I was greeted by a kind staff member who informed me that the order, despite being lunchtime, would only be about ten minutes until it was done. There was another party there eating at a table, and so I ordered. This place must be the deal because door dash, or grub hub, of them, was booming orders in. Drivers were in and out and getting food.
I ordered at roughly noon but didn't get my food until nearly 13:00. I was somewhat disappointed so I grabbed it and quickly shot back onto base because I had to get to a meeting. While I was driving I opened the food to find that it wasn't my order... Shucks! I didn't have time to go back... I called the restaurant and started to describe the problem and she said, "I gave you the wrong order." I explained I couldn't come back because of the meeting but she said I could get a refund or order again and come and get the right one.
After the day had ended I shot over, and got my correct order, they even almost gave me my money back but I said I didn't need that I just wanted the food. Very nice staff despite the mix-up and wait.
Overall, I'd go again. It was busy at lunchtime and mistakes happen. Clean restaurant, the indoor seating is massive, and the atmosphere is good. The food is above average for Anchorage. I'd rate the food almost above some of the other places in town but it wouldn't be my favorite. I'd recommend you try this place if you have the chance on this side of town.

They have real chinese food which is really rare in Alaska. We really satisified with the quality of the food and service. The decor of the restaurant is very elegant and the food is exactly same with the ones i ate in north side of China. We will definitely come back again!

I am visiting Anchorage on business and wanted to try some good authentic Chinese food. China Town was recommended by a co-worker so we decided to give it a try. But after waiting 45 minutes without an explanation and nothing being put on the table to compensate us for waiting, I became very annoyed and threatened to walk out. This seemed to get us some attention and the food finally showed up. We ordered from the "Chinese" menu, we got West lake soup, Crisp Duck and Lazi Chicken. The duck was very good, well done with a very flavorful sauce on the side. I though both the soup and the chicken lacked flavor and for a family style meal the portions were rather small. I am very forgiving when I dine out but when I am blatantly ignored and suffer from bad service I do believe that is something I need to let fellow travelers know about.

I live 2 blocks away, Willing to over pay for the same crap you buy at WAL-MART in the frozen section (Ya, that's what they do... Nuke Frozen Food). And, because I "DON'T LIVE ON BASE" no delivery, unless I want to order through, another company... SCREW China TOWN.

On the plus side, they had several different sushi-style rolls on the buffet that were fairly good. I found the entrees to be a bit heavy on oil and a little cool on their temperatures. That always bugs me with buffets when it's sitting at only lukewarm temps. Of the dishes I tried, I simply thought they were okay at best. I avoided the batter fried meat in goopy sweet sauce offerings, which seemed to be about half of them. It's better than some Anchorage buffets and at $10.50 for lunch, it is priced right, but I don't think I'd go back any time soon.

You may notice there are strangely mixed reviews of China Town: top notch, excellent and unimpressed confusion. There's a very good reason: China Town has two menus.
The first menu, shown in most photos, is the take-out/delivery American/Chinese menu. You can order from it in the restaurant. The food is boring, bland, and could be from a mall food court.
The second menu is the Chinese menu. The dishes are only served family style (large platters) and are artful, flavorful, and such a wild disconnect from the take-out menu it's hard to believe they're from the same place.
For example: we took someone new with us. They were very nervous so they ordered a sweet and sour pork plate from take-out menu. Meanwhile we had already ordered the same dish from the real menu. The two dishes could not be more different: take out was bland, overly sweet, and forgettable. The other version was complex, both savory and sweet with no note predominating - easily the best version of that dish I've ever had.
So, what to order: Pan fried steamed dumplings, Peking pork with pancakes, Minced pork vermicelli, Shrimp & chicken with tofu, Pork scallion pancakes.
You have to ask for the pork scallion pancakes, they don't appear on the real menu (I understand there's a *third* menu in Chinese only that includes it), but they've always made it when we ask.
In summary, if you are interested in an actual exotic food experience that you'll enjoy, this is the place. Assuming you know how to order.

Definitely the best Chinese food in Anchorage. It's surprisingly authentic and the staff are able to tweak dishes to your liking. They are able to make just about any Chinese dish with advance notice. There is one catch... There are two menus. The English language menu is very typical, Chinese-American food. They have a second menu for the Air China Cargo crew who frequent the restaurant. The menu is not in Chinese but they are happy to translate for you.

After driving from Arizona to Alaska we were in the mood for some good Chinese food and found this buffet to be excellent and reasonably priced (by Alaska standards).. A good variety of dishes and all were tasty.

The food here seemed average at best. I don't agree with the reviews that this place has the best Chinese food in Anchorage....but that wouldn't mean much anyway because Anchorage, for all its great Asian restaurants, is not known for its Chinese food. They have two menus. When asked about the difference, the waitress informed us that one menu was more authentic than the other. We were there for dinner and ordered off the "authentic" menu. There was no buffet, but the food seemed somewhat buffet-like. Servings are reasonable. Prices are not as cheap as the Thai or Vietnamese restaurants in town. Our waitress was very friendly. It is an undecorated place in a mini-mall, so if you're looking for atmosphere, look elsewhere. Will do, but don't go too far out of your way to get here.

I rarely give reviews to my favorite spots! It keeps the traffic down! But hands down best Chinese buffet and traditional Chinese food you can eat in anchorage! My whole family loves this place and each have there own finicky taste!! I've been eating here since the golden pond closed only to find out she owned that with ex-husband! She recently sold but newest owner retained all cooks and waitstaff and is upgrading restaurant! Thank god!

Had heard about this place. I read that the staff from the China airlines come here to eat. They have 2 menus, a more authentic and more American one. They'll help you order, ask how you want stuff cooked. They food food was great, not all soupy and over saucy. They have some dishes you don't see on ever other Chinese menu. If that's what you like go. Last meal like this was reminiscent of Chinatown in Seattle, minus the dim sum. For Anchorage five stars.

Spent a week in Alaska and tried two Chinese restaurants in Anchorage. Figured it was probably the best place to find decent Chinese food. Found this place on Yelp and when I first drive up I was a little weary. The location, outside appearance and the inside appearance are all a bit dingy. My expectations were not high given all that and the fact that I was in Anchorage. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. There is a Chinese menu (always a good sign) that has no English. The owners of the restaurant, I think, are from northern China and everyone that worked at the restaurant spoke Chinese. I can't speak to the food on the American menu but the stuff we ordered off of the Chinese menu was authentic, although, slightly in the salty side. The draw back I saw was the price. Everything on the Chinese menu was about 40% higher than what I'm used to.

China Town is a very good restaurant and one that my wife and myself totally enjoyed. Our server was extremely polite and friendly. Our meal was a dinner-for-one that my wife and I ' shared '. Our outstanding server brought us two bowls of soup when we were entitled to only one bowl (since it was a dinner-for-one). We enjoyed our meal greatly. I will post many photos of the venue and of our meal.

Absolutely #1 authentic Chinese restaurant in whole Alaska. I am from northeastern part of China (the chef happens to be from the same place). The taste is very good and the quality is similar to LA and Houston for a few dishes (such as 东北乱炖,boiled mixed dish with eggplant, potato, cooked pork). The noodle with boiled oil (you need to ask for this, not on the menu), 油沷面, is quite reasonable (I stayed in Shaanxi for a long time so I know what is good).

Lunch is buffet only. It's not very big but they had all the favorites and kept restocking as it was very busy.
