We went here for lunch based on a google search and so glad to have found it! It’s a hole in the wall location, small inside. Those are usually the best and this was no exception. Apparently they are known for their halibut sandwich, so...we tried that. So yummy. We sat at the counter and struck up conversations with a regular and one of the owners. They gave suggestions of what to do/see on our trip that only locals would know. Put this on you list over the more well known restaurants!More
A classic! Breakfast was delicious— blueberry pancakes, french toast and perfectly cooked bacon. Coffee was “spot on.” Even with COVID and one server, the place was fast and efficient. The room is filled with fun memorabilia. This establishment is a must for a delicious meal...in downtown Anchorage.More
I went there to get a Halibut Sandwich as take out. I was welcomed and taken care of immediately and despite the fact that the café was full, I got my sandwich pretty quickly. You could watch the cook make it, normally priced for Anchorage,...and really good! I'd recommend checking it out!More
We ordered the french toast and blueberry pancakes. The kitchen is open and we were able to hear our server complain to another employee about his effort. It appeared they may be related, but regardless, customers don't want to hear squabbles. Service was a bit...slow, but fine. It wasn't amazing nor was it horrible. The food was edible, but that's really all I can say. We have eaten at plenty of simple diners and dives, but the food we had at The White Spot Cafe just wasn't that good. The blueberries were all clustered into one spot of the pancake, which had to be obvious while they were being made. The french toast was thin and flavorless. For the same price point, you could eat at several other nearby places.More
When I saw the old fashioned sign, I knew I had to try it.
Small cafe, well known for their halibut sandwich.
It did not disappoint. Tasty, large portion.
Fun to sit at the counter and watch them prep and cook. Reminds me of a...small-town East Coast diner.
Looked like they had a small bar area in the rear.
They also have breakfast.
It was pretty busy when I had lunch there on a Saturday in July 2021. By the time I left, all tables were full and most counter seats were taken.
Lots of locals, and a few tourists like me.
Next time I get up there, I'll have to try the reindeer chili.More
I found this little diner-type spot and was intrigued by the claims for the best halibut burger in the country. I actually ended up choosing the halibut fish 'n chips and they were excellent. Friendly, helpful staff, great spot.
Stopped here for lunch based on a recommendation. Had the famous halibut sandwich and a bowl of their reindeer chili. Both were awesome. Owners are super nice and gave us some ideas for things to see and do while we were in the area.
My wife and I broke away from our travel foursome to walk about town and find a local lunch place. This is definitely an old established diner, catering to locals and tourists that happen to find this gem. Grilled Halibut sandwich on lightly yoayed and...buttered bread with their own light special sauce was easily among the freshest that we experienced in our twelve-day romp around Alaska. The Cole slaw has a touch of Sriracha and is not too sweet or too mayonnaisy (I may have made up a word) tasting. Onion rings are fresh made - not the stuff of frozen food. The service was warm, friendly, and attentive. Another great local place to visit!More
Upon arrival in Anchorage we asked the shuttle driver where to find a good place to eat. He listed several places, The White Spot was on the top of the list. He wasn’t wrong! Wow, great cooked in front of you meals. The hot cakes...were amazing. The gumbo was awesome with the halibut sandwich.More
