My husband and I were staying in Inlet Tower and decided to grab a bite to eat. This was about 8-830PM, so not too late. We have lived in Alaska for 4 years with multiple trips to Anc (not just for pleasure but also necessity...and business as we live rurally), and we have eaten multiple times at the swankier restaurants in Anc. We wanted to try something new, and the atmosphere was cute and promising. We always order what we want typically despite price and are above average tippers (usually 20-30%). We walked down to the restaurant, and there was a woman playing live music in the bar. We did not feel like listening to music, so we asked if there were outside seats available. The bartender asked a waiter if they were still seating outside and if he would want another table. He said yes, for us walk out the front of the hotel to meet him outside, and he would seat us. We were given menus and drink lists. I took my time, and he wasn't outside when I entered the gate to outside seating. After a few minutes, someone else seated me in one of their igloos amd was told our server would be Anders. Now, there's seating outside that isn't an igloo, and this isn't something we necessarily asked for. We had not researched the restaurant since it was in our hotel, so we thought nothing of it. There were about three other occupied igloos. After a few more minutes of waiting, a server (not Anders) came into the igloo and said he would be our server. That's fine for us - we aren't picky about our servers. He immediately asks "Did you all walk in?" I tried to explain that we asked for outdoor seating and were seated here, and he remarked "I'm just asking because people pay 30 dollars to reserve these igloos. So you just walked in?" Again, I tried to explain we are staying in the hotel and asked if they were seating outside, that we were told nothing about a fee, and did not specifically ask for the igloo. He didn't seem interested in listening to understand our side of the story. He asks for our drink and appetizer order. I wasn't sure, so he says "I'm just going to stand here and wait until you're ready because afterward I'll be gone for quite a few minutes." Okay, awkward, but we order my drink and an appetizer. When he walks away, while he is still outside, we hear him yelling and motioning angrily to the other staff about "the walk-ins." This was awkward and frustrating considering we did not ask for a free igloo. At this point we decided we would get my drink and our appetizer and cash out since this interaction was embarrassing, and we felt like we were being shamed. Our whole dining experience was completely ruined by our feeling patronized. We waited 30 minutes, and still had not received even my drink. After much discussion, we finally decided to leave and go elsewhere - at this point it was well after 9, so we reluctantly decided on fast food. This is honestly only the second time in my life I've walked out of a restaurant before receiving my order. This was disappointing for a restaurant that has a lot of potential, and we won't be trying again.More
