The food was just average. I'm from the Midwest and can say I've had better sushi here nearly 2000 miles from the coast. The rolls are cut huge. The crab mushroom was served so hot it was nearly untouchable for 10 minutes. Daughter's teriyaki was good but my tempera was soggy and the sauce bland. Server seemed arrogant, hauty, and... More

The service here is excellent and the people lovely. However, the rice is not the usual thickness and is spread thin. The nigiri is somewhat fishy, and the unagi is overcooked to the point of crispness. There's got to be better sushi elsewhere.

A half block from our hotel just off Market St. this cozy Japanese restaurant hit the Sashimi and Sushi bullseye. The ambiance is nothing special, yet the prompt friendly greeting you as you walk and seated to the server who took our drink request within in at two minutes and they were busy 80% full the night we had dinner.... Went to Sam's Sushi after seeing it for years during our jaunts in Ballard. It happened to be one of the only restaurants open for lunch on the weekend. Was a little concerned because it seemed to be commercialized, but it turned out to be good and reasonably priced. We stuck to traditional Japanese tempura and also a couple of... More

Visited this place a few times while working in the area. Loved it. Excellent tempura, bento box was also excellent. Good Service, and a fair value for your $ for Sushi in Seattle which at times can break the bank. Parking can be an issue here, I would look for free street parking up 20th or there is a paid... Fri 1/2/15 6:30pm: Sam’s Sushi Bar & Grill in Ballard/Wa. I’ve decided to only critic the bad experience, in order to help the business improves, and keep the good experience/business to ourselves so they don’t get greedy, expands and ruin our favorite dinning places . Sam’s Sushi Bar is nothing special, believe run by Chinese. Sam has yet to master... More

I went to Sam's twice. The first time, I met some friends for dinner after I had already eaten, so I didn't order anything. Their orders for nigiri came out almost immediately, while rolls took some time. My friend who used to work in a sushi restaurant said it passed his test (good rice, in-house tamagoyaki, fish tasted the way... More

This Ballard sushi joint is a wonderful spot. Warm and inviting, you will feel at home. The food is delicious. This may sound strange, but they have the best ginger salad dressing; it's worth getting the "ordinary" salad, just for the dressing! The salmon roll is very good and the Ballard roll is, fittingly, yummy. They remember us every time... More

Love Sam's Sushi. I'm not a fan of conveyor belt or buffet-style sushi. This seems like authentic sushi with great service. It's rarely crowded but don't let that fool you. It's a low key place to go. I also discovered they do take-out. And I live a block away...

good Japanese food, good food, friendly service and chef, good value; easy to access on Queen Anne Ave N, esp if you’re staying in Mediterranean Inn; despite name, restaurant has sashimi (always mouthwatering and fresh); eat in or take out
