I‘m from Europe, so I thankfully won‘t be at this coffee shop ever again.
I‘m 22 and ordered two beers at the bar for my father and me. Server didn‘t want to see an ID. Later my father, he‘s 53 years old and definitely looks...like that, went in to grab one more beer. Server wanted to see his ID but he left it in the car and after arguing with the server if he‘d look like a 15 year old he went out without getting a beer.
We then came back again. I said that he can’t be serious about that. Not asking me for an ID but my father. A friendly customer next to me heard that and told me that it‘s the law to ask for an ID. That‘s absolutely okay but shouldn‘t the server then have also asked me for my ID? I could easily be 20 years or younger! I‘m not familiar with the law in the States but I guess they‘re pretty strict in terms of alcohol an minors. One of the two servers just smirked, the other one didn‘t really took me seriously an mumbled „Sorry...“ while doing other stuff.
That‘s the part that upsets me the most, you just don‘t treat customers like that, no matter what. I‘ve been polite and firm the whole time. After saying that I‘m probably gonna give them a bad review he said that he couldn‘t serve us a beer or anything else anymore. He more or less kicked us out. Besides the fact that not in my wildest dreams I‘d ever visit Ballard Coffee Works again anyway, that‘s not how an employee should react to criticism.
Absolutely shocking and poor behavior from the employees!More
There are a lot of good coffee shops, but this is the best consistently in town! Large patio, lots of indoor seating, good pastries & sandwiches. With lots of milk variety you will find something for everyone.
Like a lot of folks in this pet and child haven of a neighborhood, I like to take a walk into Ballard with my dog and my teen daughter and enjoy a coffee at a local cafe. My dog, an elderly golden, loves to hang...out outside and court admirers or, at 16, just sleep. They called animal control and reported him "abandoned"! I was 10 feet away, inside the coffee shop. No one bothered to ask in the shop "Is this someone's dog?" My dog also has a collar with his license and an ID tag with my cell number, which I had next to me on the table. When I asked the barista if there was something wrong with my dog, some reason to call animal patrol, he said the manager felt the dog was "not good looking". I'd have been happy to take my ugly dog elsewhere had she simply asked. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere and I suggest you do as well.More
Running way behind schedule, four of us ducked in here for a quick lunch before going to the Majestic Bay Theater next door to see a film. Though there was not a huge selection of sandwiches in this coffee shop, I found a very good...one in the small display case with turkey, cheese and a jam that give it a distinctive, delicious flavor. The barista toasted it for me, which made it even better. I would have preferred whole wheat rather than white bread, but that was not an option. As I did not order coffee, I cannot comment on this shop's focus, but my friends seemed quite satisfied with their coffee selections.
The shop is clean and nicely laid out, with outside seating available. Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. A sign indicates that no tips are accepted.More
