What a find! Another restaurant worth the long trip. Perhaps everything (except my slice of blueberry cake at the end) was first fermented before it was cooked and was simply delicious. The small place was very busy at lunch time but we forced ourselves to a table already taken by a single man and were rewarded by a different taste, a new experience. Bravo to the heavily tattoed chef who reigns supreme in his open kitchen, surrounded by dozens of jars with pickeled carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, raddishes, tomatoes, pears, green leaves of all sorts, etc., etc. Two mains, two lemonades, coffees and one cake came up to 730 CZK. Vegetarians are welcome.

Was there for lunch, third time. Exceptional place with specific meal concept. Definitely not for all, but for me it's outstanding, worth the extra trip. Friendly and attentive service, Fine dining styled presentation, original and confident meals using local sources. Great and rich soups, delicious baked beatroot. Very tasty carp's fries - best I've ever had. I appreciate quite low saltiness overall. Good coffee served with glass of water. Very good value for money.

Unique cusine for sure, but We left disappointed. Using local sources is something that can give you a great benefit, but focus on making tasty meals at first, what we ate was not good at all. Tried almost everything in a group of more than 10 guys. Can not recommend.

TL;DR: we loved everything about Sůl & Řepa:
Great culinary experience, chef who knows how to surprise guests, top service, incredible quality of the food, little price.

Let's say you're in the middle of a long drive in Czechia, and you find yourself hungry. Say it's 3PM, so every restaurant has already closed. Then you open up TripAdvisor, and you find a restaurant in a small town called Starovice. The pics are good, the reviews almost too good. You call, and the last thing you expect is to hear is: "yes, come to us, it's afternoon but we'll cook for you".
You park for free in the streets, walk in, and there's a 5 meters corridor of jars of homemade pickles. Wow. Then, two beautiful and smiling waitress, in a perfect English, welcomes you and helps you choose your meal, even if it's gluten free.
While you wait... You'll notice first the open kitchen, where you can watch the art being made. Interesting choice.
Then you'll stare at the jars, because they contain so many exotic things that you would love to know everything about.
All the time being there, you'll ask yourself if the room looks more like your granny's (who-lives-in-the-countryside) cellar, with all the jars of food on display, or if it reminds you some vegan hipster pub you've been to in Milano. The question remain unanswered... Until the food is served, and you'll immediately understand that the Sůl & Řepa, is the house of an artist and you're just an extremely lucky guest.
An artist who patiently studied the local cuisine, sourced local products for you, and then put it all together in some incredibly tasty dishes. All of this at 16.00, when every other restaurant will bump you instead.
So you eat this mix of microgreens, pickles, and amazing meat and fish. It's like if your senses are taking a pleasure journey in the local countryside, the chef guides you through the different tastes and makes you feel nostalgic about the way people used to eat before supermarkets and the globalization took over.
Be warned! It may be not for everyone! Sadly some people lost the capacity to enjoy other foods than hamburgers.
But you instead will just feel guilty about that avocado at that hipster place in Milano. Maybe you'll even promise yourself to eat more pickles when you're back home. Maybe learn from your grandmother how to make some yourself.
In the end, you know it's time to grow, and live in a more sustainable way, and this restaurant will remind that to you all the time, even while you're at the toilet.
Good job about that, we loved the lesson. See you next time!
P.s. We forgot to tip, we're not used to it. So now we'll have to plan another trip to Czechia, and another stop at your place, taste also the wine, and tip twice this time.

I would never say that such a perfect restaurant is possible to run in Strakonice. I do not understand what a know how local owner has but he must be a magician 🎩. Right that is what this world need. Supporting mostly local small producers and the quality you feel!! Open kitchen with owners in, cooking and smiling. Just the waitress was kind of “crazy” 😂🤩 Please, make a franchise in Prague 😉 Food was really delicious, next time hopefully will my steak 🥩 be medium reared not well done.

We ate this evening our dinner here. We (dutchmen) live partially in the region.
First off all: everything looked beautiful and careful.
The taste was very good, espessially the dessert 'Variation on a cucumber'. Wonderful! The rolled meat was only a little bit to dry (as very often in Czechia).
The service was very friendly.
The price was higher than the normak restaurants.
We will return!

This restaurant, serving modern, fresh and non-fried meals is exactly the best reason why to stop in Strakonice. In my attitude, Sůl&Řepa shifts Strakonice castle to the second place since the food is so delicious, every time I go there I experience new tastes and flavours of food. Furthermore, beer (Pilsner Urqurell) is perfectly tapped and best in the town. The owner and chef in one person obviuosly loves what he's doing and takes care of his customs flawlessly :-)

We went here with a group of coworkers for lunch. Nice, interesting interior trends. An incredible range of pickled, fermented, dried and other homemade ingredients. Very interesting food list. It was great for me👌, it was harder for my colleagues, they are used to classic dishes, but on the other hand, they got to know something else and they will definitely remember it. I'm rooting for you!👍
